Five reasons why people hate Kobe Bryant (and why they're wrong)

"Leader of Kings"
Near as I can tell, there are five reasons most of America finds it impossible to be happy for Kobe Bryant (and why they're wrong):<image1><image2> 1) They think he threw Shaq off the Lakers -- and people like Shaq better. (Actually, Bryant doesn't own the Lakers. It was Jerry Buss who was fed up with Shaq, tired of him reporting to training camp out of shape and infuriated when he scheduled toe surgery just weeks before camp started. The team was staler than last Christmas' fruitcake. Somebody had to go. And, yes, Shaq is more fun. He acts 10 years younger than his age and Bryant 10 years older. But John Stockton makes Bryant look like a stand-up comedian and nobody hates on him.)
2) They think he has the refs in his pocket. (Actually, Bryant led all players in technical fouls in 2007-2008. He was ninth this season, tied with Shaq and a few others.)
3) They think he's a lousy teammate who hogs the ball. (Actually, Bryant set personal bests for assists in these playoffs. And watch the tapes of the Lakers celebration. You can't fake bonds like that.)
4) They think he's a threat to their god, Michael Jordan, as Greatest Player Ever. (Actually, Bryant and Jordan are friends. They talk and text a lot. Jordan has helped Bryant with his game and his public life. If Jordan doesn't resent him, why should you?)
5) They think he's a sourpuss who never smiles. (Actually, they're right. But now, with his fourth and by far most important championship, maybe he can lighten up. This title should take years off his face and tons off his shoulders. Maybe now he can start showing the world his sense of humor, his good heart and his upper row of teeth instead of just the bottoms.)

7) They think he saved half his loot by buying his wife a 4 million dollar rock after they think he raped the white girl in Denver

Make that a 6 Million but what's a million or 2.

9) Because he is just plain nasty all neely willy going up in that girls booty
and would have gone home to that wife and all neely willy up in her. :retard:

8) They think he ratted out Shaq after they think he raped that white girl in Denver.

BINGO!!:lmao:

Kobe broke the "MAN CODE" and the "LOCKER ROOM CODE" in one breath.
I like him................Wouldn't trust him after a "Boy's night out" though.

I think there's a myriad of reason why many don't care for Bryant. But the big ones were mentioned in the first few replies, albeit partly in jest.

This is not smack, so let's not start:

I think Byant is a helluva basketball player. He'll probably go down as one of the top five players ever. The one thing that has has always struck me, though, is his overall lack of an identity. Bear with me... again, this ain't smack. Bryant has spent a good portion of his career preoccupied with being the next Michael Jordan. He emulates Jordan in interviews. He's patterned many of Jordan's moves. It's not a horrible thing to have influences, but a player loses something when he gets to be a veteran and he still doesn't have that signature quality that makes him "Him". He's always acted as though he's had to prove himself worthy of Jordan's approval.

I hate to bring Lebron's name into convo, but he's a good example for contrast. Lebron has never had to be anyone but Lebron James. Therefore, he's been able to carve out his own identity without the pressure of being compared to one great player. I think people like Lebron because he's his own person in that respect.

Some of Bryant's image problems are NOT his fault. It's hard to overcome being labelled "the next _______". No matter how good you are, you're practically cursed to be compared to that icon for the rest of your career.

By the same token, some of Bryant's image problems are very much his fault. I think it boils down to questions of Bryant's genuineness, and situations like the Shaq 'snitch', rape allegation and marital 'bribe' didn't help matters. It's easy to understand why many don't care for him after those incidents.

Kobe = Ja Rule

Ja Rule was dissed for tryin' to be too much like Pac, and
people love Pac, so they took that as a disrespect.

People think Kobe is tryin' too hard to be like Mike, and
people love Mike, so they taking it as a disrespect.

LeBron & 50 have their own identity

Didn't I post this a while back? Seriously if not, I intended to... me and some fellas had a conversation about this during the playoffs and I made the same comment that you made. It was like an epiphany for those guys... they were like "Damn...that's it"

LMAO...

If Kobe and MJ are such good friends I can only conclude that MJ and Lebron are even closer... either that are Kobe is a flakey type dude.. He proved that by being a rat and all the other phoney isht he pulls...

I saw that because... when ever interviewed.. It's KOBE who always leaves the interview with people still wondering how much he respect MJ...

Funny after a Lebron interview, you KNOW this kid respect the HELL out of MJ...

Kobe just ain't a real dude...

LOL. If it was posted, I didn't see it. Chalk it up to great minds thinking alike.

Why did this thread get moved?? It's tame compared to most Kobe/Laker threads on the Sportsboard.

Near as I can tell, there are five reasons most of America finds it impossible to be happy for Kobe Bryant....

Bluedog, I agree with your posts, but it's hard for me to believe that most of America is not happy for Kobe, especially if his jerseys are flying off the shelves more than any player in the NBA for two of the past three years.
If I didn't like a player, no way would I buy his jersey.
Even in the latest ESPN poll, America has chosen Kobe as being the best player in the NBA.

Nevertheless, for those many right-winged Kobe haters out there who find it impossible to be happy for him....your points are right on target.

11) Kobe didn't put that chair he bent that white girl over in Denver up for auction on ebay. :sperm: :shame:

JayRob, you're right. America, in general, doesn't have a problem with Kobe. It's just the Keepin' It Real folks that despise him. With his suburban background and absolute confidence that he could take anybody that suits up against him, the Keepin' It Real folks would never accept him. Such if life for that man. The good thing about that is I don't think he gives a fugg.

Love him or hate him he's the best, but y'all really need to get off of that snitch crap.

Shaq shit was raggedy way before and Kobe had nothing to do with it, he's big dumbazz should have been watching the pool boy.

Like someone said and I been saying.. Kobe has no identity..

He wants badly to be like Mike and don't give credit... He acts like he came up with the isht he does when everyone knows what he does are watered down MJ moves...

In general most people don't like frauds...Dude need to find out who the real Kobe Bryant is.. How about trying to imulate more of his father who also played B-Ball rather than imitating MJ...

What's funny about Kobe is, not one sports reporter ever compared his demeanor to his REAL Father... I know his father has to be shaking his dayum head at his son... That's more than likely the real reason Kobe and his REAL Father barely speak to each other...

HBCUs,
Good post. And the sad part about it, is that kobe has been a wannabe all this time he's been in the league.

Gatorade really did a number on him. After all these years, po kobe still wanna be like Mike.

If you go to youtube
I can see that even Kobe's celebration after winning the title
over Orlando was the same body celebration Mike did after winning.

How you gone copy a celebration something that's suppose to
be spontanous :xeye:

Folks will find anything to link MJ with Kobe, even when it's not warranted. What's Kobe supposed to do after winning the championship....stand still, not shout and be expressionless? Most people jump for joy and swing their arms. How would you suggest he have responded? LOL!

Didn't Jordan mimick some of Dr. J's moves? Where's the complaining about that? All players learn from each other and mimick each other.
That's been going on since sports existed.

LOL @ Kobe's celebration being like Mike's. The lengths people will go through....:smh:

By the way, which celebration did Kobe copy....the first, second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth?
