Charlie Strong warns Texas fans they won't win a national championship this year

The key for Texas is getting a good QB. They haven't had good, consistent production from that position since Colt McCoy in 2009. Charlie Strong is definitely going to have them playing hard-nosed defense.

I think Texas A&M's Maziel-less offense is going to be better than what people think they will be. Their issue will be can their defense stop the other teams from scoring. LSU and Alabama will be vulnerable next season, but they also have to worry about Ole Miss and Miss State who will be tough outs, and of course Auburn.

Going to be interesting to see if these two black coaches can get Texas to stop being petty and go ahead and re-start the A&M-UT series.

I wouldn't doubt it. Having all that "talent" in that state and Texas has never been a continuous impressive program. I honestly don't expect that to start now either. Like I said they'll probably be like Ohio State, the juggernaut of the conference and wimpy outside of it. They have a "top recruiting class" every year and never do chit with it lol. Will have a perfect season... then bowl season rolls around and they get exposed. He will have a maximum of 3 years to prove he can win anyway before they run him out of there.

You do realize under Mack Brown, Texas was 3-1 in BCS Bowls with their only loss to Alabama in the National Title game. He also won 7 other non BCS Bowl games they went to. He had numerous 10 plus win seasons. So them getting exposed in the Bowl game is a myth. When they first joined the Big 12, Nebraska was still Nebraska. Not to mention Bob Stoops and OU started winning big again when he took over there. You are making it sound like Texas has been a garbage program. Most of the SEC was struggling until the Spurriers, Sabans and Les Miles of the world came on board. Texas problem has always been WHO they hired. Not the talent. If Saban did not take that Bama job, they would still be looking for titles outside of the Gene Stallings era. I am not even a Mack Brown or UT fan. But it ain't as bad as you make it. Most teams have lost in bowl games. Only a few programs have National Titles and it is a reason for it. Coaching hires are pivotal. LSU found that out when they hired Saban and then Miles kept it up. Every program has down times when they make the wrong hire. Ask Nebraska. Oklahoma before Stoops. It will happen to Alabama again once Saban retires and probably with LSU when Miles goes. Florida is going through it now with Muschamp and I am willing to bet money as soon as Spurrier is gone from South Carolina, they will drop too. Strong is going to do wonders in Austin. If he gets the Texas players to play HARD instead of being coddled. He will win. Throw in a few National recruits and he will be fine. I also think he will not make the same QB RECRUITING mistakes that Mack Brown did. If he had just recruited better at that position, he may have kept his job.

You are right about the QB issue. That was Mack's undoing. He let RG3 go to Baylor, Manziel to A&M, and others like Stafford leave the state. Then he drops the Jameis Winston ball. LOL. Killer.

As for the UT and A&M thing. That is bigger than the two coaches. Steve Patterson the UT AD has already went on record saying he ain't thinking about renewing the game no time soon. It is not on his priority list. This will take some POLITICS to get that game played again. Sumlin and Strong just better win their games on the field. LOL.

Yeah it is real bad. Texas is really butt-hurt over Texas A&M leaving them for the SEC. lol

Yeah, that big lineman from West Monroe that Bama inked was a monster killer. I felt trimmers from the heartbreak in Tigerland way in North Georgia. :emlaugh: Speedy Noles (N.O.) was a killer too. Those two guys would have given LSU the #1 recruiting class.

That big lineman who should be a high school senior started at left tackle in the Bama Spring game. Also, Cam Sims and Hootie had good games. North Louisiana has been good to T-Town......Keep them coming!

it's smart not to create false hope in Texas, but to say that... that's "Risky Business". just say yall going to compete and walk away. lol.

I don't really see what's wrong with the statement. I would actually be happy with a coach who walked in, looked around, and was honest with what he saw. Obviously he feels it will take more than a year to build a national champion.

..but I still think that at the end of the next 10 years, Louisville may not win a national title but they will have been the better overall program.
