Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule

Re: Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule Cont'd

I agree, but we all know some our ADs refuse to conform to the way other conference's schedule. Some people on this board tend to forget that Jackson State makes money every other year on games against Southern and Grambling. We can replace the Southern game slot in 2008 with a home game in 2008 and another home game in 2009 when we would be traveling to Baton Rouge. Also we could replace an unprofitable road Texas Southern game in 2008 with a game against USM or another Division I-A team or another home game or classic and the same goes for an unprofitable road game against Pine Bluff. So the getting rid of the mandate could mean more money for us.

Exactly, people seem to forget that we have to return the game at Southern. All we need is two 20K games, a 2 year classic deal, a 1-A opponent or any combination thereof to make up the difference.

Re: Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule Cont'd

um, no he's not. you SHOULD NOT be allowed to play a swac school that is not apart of your offical swac schedule. that's what should happen. play your division. play your one permanent rival, in jsu's case, southern, and you'll see grambling every 2 years. just suck that one up. everybody can't get everything they want. in fact no one is going to get everything they want.

and before someone says the swac office can't tell u who to schedule keep in mind the sec and acc offices don't allow them to play against other conference foes they aren't scheduled to play as a part of their conference schedule. so that argument is dismissed.

so we can cease all the talk about games counting and not counting. that's all garbage and it undermines the 7 game format. so you've got to go out and find 4 non-swac opponents. the sooner you accept that the sooner you can fill that 08 schedule. again b/f you talk about how's it's not a prob for your school and how ur just looking out for the little man (little school), just go a get 4 IAA and up opponents will ya and be quiet until you hold a trophy above your heads.

uum, yes he was.. YOU got in on the middle of a conversation and started talking about a totally different subject.

But for your concerns....LOL whatever. Alcorn is NOT going to turn down dates with Grambling and Southern. Alcorn's pecking order for classics and attractive non-conference opponents is higher than the BAMA's but still not higher than Jackson State's.

I am cool with a strict 7 game format (in fact, that is my preference because I would rather just meet SU or Grambling in Bham...LOL); however, I am not against playing our traditional rivals if nothing else comes along. Recall how you let SU punk you into coming to them for a payout...that was low. Alcorn, get some balls....LOL

Re: Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule Cont'd

Actually you have to and you will. The day and age of c**n thinking is OVER in the SWAC. Tell me this, can you not still make hundreds of thousands of dollars if you played the Texas School for the Blind in Jackson? If not, they WHY NOT?

Dude, I see where you are going. However, JSU plays in a 60K seat stadium and only a few schools can fill that up. We don't have 200K alumni like big white schools. We don't have 86% of the population to draw from either. If you were talking about a 15K-30K seat stadium, JSU should be able to fill that almost weekly. However, when it comes to the Southern game, we can't do another home and home and potentially draw 60K. The SU game would be hard for us to replace but we could come close...As far as the Grambling game goes, we normally draw around 25K for them. We could invite Delta State to Jackson for a payout and draw 25-20K fans at least for two years and make more money. Again, we have options in Jackson. So this is not about what we can't do...we are just spoiled and we will do what we want to do because the conference is going to let us.

No offense, dude, but this is the worst philosophy that the SWAC can employ. It would only continue us being a small-time conference.

I don't like it either. But I certainly don't see the SWAC Commissioner telling the SWAC ADs and school presidents that you can't schedule a conference team as a non-conference opponent. If they had planned on doing that they would have made that clear when they eliminated the mandate. Again, none of that would be necessary if the ADs would get off their backsides and do their jobs and quit waiting for paydays to fall in their laps.

Re: Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule Cont'd

Exactly, if they were going to do that, it should have been decided already. The interesting thing is that the conference is STILL going to schedule the conference games so when that time comes, they may decide NOT to let teams not on rotation play or if (for instance) JSU and SU are trying to play on a date that they NEED for a game that counts, we could be forced not to play!! :kaioken:

Re: Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule Cont'd

Again, its DUMB to play a game between conference opponents and the game not count as a conference game when it is not 1) a playoff game 2) a conference championship game or 3) a scrimmage. It you think otherwise, you are dumb too.

The SWAC will be, well be more of the laughing stock of college football.

Re: Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule Cont'd

We should go to the eight game mandate with 1 permanent rival. Every one will play Gram or Southern every season.

Again, you can't have permanent rivals in the SWAC. Well, you can but the BAMA's will get shafted.

Sperm, it's dumb but it's gonna happen so deal with it.
