Breaking down the 2007 NFL draft

Handing out grades for an NFL Draft immediately after it's completed seems a bit premature; like being told what kind of high school student you'll be while still in diapers. But we can talk value, and we can talk winners and losers. Let's dig right in:

Five best drafts

1. Atlanta: I loved what Atlanta did on Day 1 and thought they picked up a lot of depth on Day 2. In Jamaal Anderson, Justin Blalock, and Chris Houston, the Dirty Birds got three projected first-round picks. Some mock drafts had Houston, a star cornerback at Arkansas, going as early as No. 20 to the Giants. Atlanta got him at 41. Laurent Robinson, the wide receiver out of Illinois State that they took at 75, is arguably the most intriguing small school product in the entire draft. Auburn cornerback David Irons, Kenny's twin brother, will be a special player at the next level as well.

Don't tell them BB just wait until they have to watch the back of that Vick 7 jersey running past there favorite defensive players.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well the Rams got a TOP D-LMAN.
We needed that.

A cornerback...................Dang sho needed that.

And we giving the HOMEBOY QUINTON CULBERTSON----PROVINE a shot a LB through a free agent contract.

2007 NFL Draft report cards: NFC | AFC

How did your team do in the 2007 NFL Draft? Our NFL Czar hands out the grades for every team:

NFC EAST

DALLAS COWBOYS
Czar's breakdown: This draft was basically about grabbing Purdue pass rusher Anthony Spencer in the first round and acquiring Cleveland's first-round pick next year while helping them land quarterback Brady Quinn. New head coach Wade Phillips compares Spencer favorably to San Diego's Shaun Phillips. Spencer did give Wisconsin's Joe Thomas trouble. Boston College's James Marten has a chance to make the team as an offensive tackle as does fourth-round pick Isaiah Stanback, who figures to be a receiver in the NFL. Stanback played quarterback at the U. of Washington. The rest of the draft appeared pretty shaky.

Grade: C

NFC SOUTH

ATLANTA FALCONS
Czar's breakdown: Most of their NFC South opponents thought the Falcons really helped themselves. After losing defensive end Patrick Kerney, Arkansas' Jamaal Anderson made perfect sense in the first round. He was considered the second-best pass rusher after Gaines Adams. Second-round selections Texas guard Justin Blalock and Arkansas cornerback Chris Houston both have a chance to become starters. Blalock is powerful and quick while Houston is excellent in single coverage; he dominated USC's Dwayne Jarrett in their game this season. Houston is fearless. Receiver Laurent Robinson was hampered by an ankle injury in senior season at Illinois State, but did manage 3,007 receiving yards and 29 TDs in 37 career starts. South Florida OLB Stephen Nicholas could end up being a surprise because he played multiple positions in college. The Falcons also got some quality in the sixth round with Auburn CB David Irons and Ohio State center Doug Datish, who started 35 games for the Buckeyes, including 21 games at left tackle and guard.

Grade: A+

The whole draft was shaky. Anthony Spencer will play the same position as last year's first round pick. I don't care how good a player is, you don't stack players that play the same position. Ask Detroit about those 3 wasted 1st round picks on 3 receivers 3 years in a row. I give Dallas an F.

Yeah. Having depth at D-End can't be a good thing.

Beans,

The Cowboys will be a Super Bowl contender. The Falcons will continue to wallow in mediocrity with your glorified RB under center.

And we giving the HOMEBOY QUINTON CULBERTSON----PROVINE a shot a LB through a free agent contract.

I though Culbertson had another year it amazing he got passed up. Some of the schemes they ran at Miss St. kinda killed his play making abilities.

Spencer will not play DE, he's to small. He will have to play OLB. This was taken from the Cowboys website.

Spencer (6-2, 261) looks to be another ideal fit as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. He had 10 ? sacks and five forced fumbles, along with 26 ? tackles for loss last season.

Dallas already has 5 DEs and 8 LBs on roster. How much depth do you need?
You don't draft for depth when you have needs. Don't say they had the 20th something pick so all the best players were gone. This is not the NBA draft. There are good players throughout the whole draft.

Atlanta did very well in the draft.

Dude in a 3-4 the outside linebackers are basically DEs. And some of those players will not be on the roster in Sept.

He goes by what he reads. We go by what we see on Sundays. I don't need nobody telling me anything about dem Cowboys. There's a reason why we're playing for #6, while others are trying to get number 1.

Naw.............He's done at Ms. State.
He never got in a groove because of all the "turnover" in coaches up there.

Several coaches later they could not decide if he was gonna be DB, SS, or LB.
Croom put him at LB and was done with it................Should have been playing LB all 4 years.

OK............Ithink he will be one of those guys that catch own and have some success down the line

The worst teams usually get the best picks.

You would think anyone with decent football knowledge would know that. Not to mention he chose one out of many draft grading scales that just happened to put those sorry Falcons in first place. I feel you though beans...at least they're first in something.

He gotta take his victories where he can get 'em. Sholl ain't happening on the field for them buzzards. And damn sho ain't happening in February. Losers R Them.

thank you, and that's the bottom line. Anybody that knows anything about the boys remembers when they really had them good defenses in the 90's, they had a rotation of guys, so nobody ever got tired.

You cowgirl fans should know better than that. Our record wasnt all that bad (7-9), we just made the right trades and decisions to get to a spot to get quality players (unlike yourselves). We can live with our draft picks, can you? Our 2008 season looks very, very bright, does yours?

You said the same thing when ya'll went out and picked up washed up Abraham. ATL gets good players and never keeps them on the team (i.e. Brett Favre, Deion Sanders). Hell you STILL dont have any decent receivers, but you DO have 3 decent runningbacks (Dunn, Norwood and Vick).

Since you love reading the white folks publications, I'ma indulge your drivel and let you post preseason prognostications. We'll see if your sources think as highly of your team as they do the Cowboys. With y'alls future looking so bright and all.

I've seen unlit coal shine brighter than the Falcons future. 5 > 0. :smh:

The 'Boys got Romo, T.O. and Glenn. Barber and Jones. Signed Leonard Davis to shore up that O-line. Signed Ken Hamlin at safety. Spencer gonna be defensive rookie of the year. That lineman from BC gonna provide quality depth. That's Super Bowl title in '07.

Then we'll be picking first in '08. Damn!!! Where my blu blockers at???

Stop it did you really mention Leonard Davis............He basically bent Jerry Jones over and used no grease. Leonard Davis if thats what you cowboys fans are banking on Leonard Davis you guys are in a lot of trouble. Maybe Leonard Davis can hold extra points for you guys.

He's a falcons fan. You have to talk to him in the mindstate that you know nothing about football.

Maybe the Falcons can show us how to hold extra points (even though it was a FG). After all, they got a damn good look at what went wrong.

This guy got a good look too. Maybe he can fix the problem. ~snicker~
