Barry Bonds . . countdown to history

I guess everyone defending Barry chooses to omit the BALCO trial from their memories. It's not a question of whether he was using performance enhancers, it's how much of it was he using. He's just as guilty of using performance enhancers as Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco. It's a shame, because pre-drugs, Barry was the best all-around player in the game, and could have been one of the all-time greats. Like it or not, the drug charge will hang over his head from here to eternity, and it will taint his "legacy".

If you think Barry didn't know about what he was doing, I have some oceanfront property in Minnesota I would like to sell you.

In all seriousness, the growth of his cranium leads one to believe that there had to be some human growth hormone used at some point, in addition to the cream/clear he was supplied with.

Most folks' heads get bigger over a 15 year period.

Yes they do. Most folks heads don't blow up like balloons though. Take a look at Barry's head then and now. There's a fairly big difference, and not a natural one.

It's like it's two different people you are looking at.

....Bonds prolly knowingly took those drugs; but I really feel like taking a drug will not help you hit a fastball coming at 100 mph.

"Snake"

No it won't, but it damn sure helps you hit it further when you connect with it. :D

There have been dozens of guys who took performance enhancing drugs and was not even half the player Bonds is or any other great player was. Just because you take something does not mean you will be a great athlete as a result---especially in baseball. You have to be more than fast, big and strong to play the game. Do I think Bonds took something? More than likely, a lot of guys have and they were just average ballplayers.

Bonds does look like a different person, but you fail to realize that these athletes train year round and can't help but get bigger and stronger as a result. That photo of him as a Pirate was probably taken in the early 1990s when baseball players were not advised to lift much weights. Now, with modern technology and trainers and nutritionists and let's not forget the money. Players will continue to get stronger because they want that bread.

Barry Bonds has great hand eye coordination. In addition he is extremely disciplined at the plate. Barry does not fit the mold of what the media want in a great athlete. He has pride and refuses to smile or laugh when something is not funny. The media wanted to berate his father and Barry gave the media a piece of his mind and it has been down hill since then.

Contrast Barry with the Great Hope Roger Clemons. Clemons is much bigger than he was in earlier in his career and on several occasions showed signs of steroid rage, however he has never been accused of using steroids.

The push towards strenghth training is the main difference. I don't care how much roids you take, if you don't work out, it does not a bit of good.

What rock have you been living under where Roger Clemens hasn't been accused of taking steroids? Of course Barry gets accused, he had people testify during a court proceeding that he was supplied with the cream and the clear, which were designer steroids. Like TO says, "If it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck..."

Roger has not received the same type of attention. Roger might have been accused, however not to the degree as Barry.

It just like most issues in America. The majority has an opinion and the minority has another opinion. Majority athlete when they do not conform are labeled ecentric and minority athletes are labeled as malcontents.

The rock I live on is called earth.

You must have been under a rock. Roger was implicated last year by a supplier. It was just swept under the rug when he denied it.

Well, a lot of that may change especially with the implications by a former NY Mets employee who is now working closely with the government regarding steroid use in MLB. :uhoh:

As most of us realize on the board, it appears the Barry Bond's issue was just a microcosm of events compared to the bigger picture at hand. I have a strange feeling that a lot of popular athletes are going to strike out swinging literally! That is, unless the government calls off their dogs, and the only way that happens is if there is a golden-boy white media darling they don't want to implicate!

Barry hit number 742 the other day. He also batted .400 last, but you wouldn't know it by the media's reaction. :smh:

It's great that he hit 742 and the media has been all over his chase. But the .400 average is not news. It's not likely he will hit .400 the rest of the season. Plus, there are a bunch of guys hitting.400 because IT'S A MONTH INTO THE SEASON!!

Cosign......

Plus in Bonds earlier years his metabolism rate was high for his age. As he begin to get older his rate slowed. Thus Like Kendrick said...Trainers and modern technology (non steriod) plus a good diet can help you get stronger and bigger over the years.
