Banks granted permission to speak with Texas A&M

You think that may be why he only accepted the $24K raise you had issues with?

Remember you are having a conversation with a person that wanted S.U. to keep Spivery. You may as well walk up to a huge oak tree and have a conversation with it about global warming. Then proceed to argue with that tree about not sanely responding. :emlaugh:

In her case that's plausible. :emlaugh:

Southern continued to negotiate a new contract with men’s basketball coach Roman Banks on Thursday as Texas A&M added an assistant to its staff.

Aggies head coach Billy Kennedy spoke with Banks — who was Kennedy’s top assistant at Southeastern Louisiana from 2003-05 — about a similar position with A&M last week.

A Texas A&M news release said simply that former College of Charleston associate head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim was hired as an assistant. Kennedy has a second opening on his staff.

He promoted Mitch Cole from special assistant to a full-time coaching position early last season after another assistant, John Reese, left the program.

An Aggies spokesperson said Thursday night that Kennedy was “weighing his options” with regards to what the final position would entail.

Meanwhile, Banks continued discussions with Southern Athletic Director William Broussard and Chancellor James Llorens on a new contract. Broussard said negotiations have gone well, but the involvement of Llorens and other university administrators in the university’s Centennial Gala interrupted negotiations Thursday.

Not like that is going to stop a big school from coming in and getting him.

Exactly. Buy out clause not common at our sized schools. We can normally pay enough to keep like sized schools from stealing our coaches. But none of the SWAC schools can stop a SEC school from taking a coach if they want them. When you are a mid major or lower basketball conference or school, you are going have folks sniffing around your program if they are good coaches.

You can not stop them, but you can get a nice pay day.
