Band Performances You Will Never Forget.

Focus
Here are the performances that I will never forget.

1.Prairie View (The Storm) 1989--in Little Rock. As a former band member me and some other ole school UAPB members watch this inspiring performance by Praire View. We all agreed that this was tops. The Storm dance routine was to one of Uncle Ricky's tracks.

2.Southern University(The JukeBox)1974- Pine Bluff--Southern came out from the North endzone performing Stevie Wonder's "YOU AIN'T DONE NOTHING" The slow song they played in concert band formation was Blue Magic's 'SIDESHOW'. The dance routine was performed to one of Kool & The Gang's songs. And end of the song the band put their horns down on the field and they did the Bump with no music, and no drums to keep the beat.Beautiful.

3. UAPB (M4)-1980--Homecoming- Well I did not watch it, I was performing  I can't remember the drill song but our dance rountine had people standing up in the stands cheering each time we would go into another dance step. Our dance routine song was "FIRECRACKER". The noise from the crowd was like from an ocean.

4.FAMU--1984-Jacksonville Fl. against Troy State.---The drill was real tight the dance routine was to Shelia E's "Glamourous Life"-- too cold.

5. Jackson State-1978--JSU's Homecoming--(43,000 hostile fans lol). Watched it from the sidelines after we got through dancing to some gotdayum "BRASS TAX' :smh:. This one of the best performances I seen JSU do. The Sonic Boom danced to a medley of the top ten fast songs that year. I never will forget my fellow MAD DRUMMERS INC. comrade "Little Tony" saying while we were kneeling on the sidelines watching The Boom get off--"Man we need to pack our sh!t and go home".

6. UAPB--1993-Little Rock--Kevin Washington was the band director. The M4's band performance was flawless. The dance routine looked as though you were watching a reflection of one person in over 100 mirrors;the moves were just that much in unison.(Philharmonic.. I need the tape of that show)

7. Memphis Booker T. Washington--UAPB Homecoming parade 1972.It was my first year in junior high. All I have to say..they were coldblooded. They were doing sh!t that was 25 years ahead their time..I swear. Every high school and junior high band in the parade followed them down the street;they were at the end of the parade because a years before people followed them down the street before the parade was over with .
(Here is a photo of them
)

8. AM&N(UAPB)--1971--After all of their halftimes, after they finished performing they had a routine going back into stands that was a traffic stopper.

9. Paxon High School--1984--Jacksonville, Florida. These youngbloods were creative and original they did a"Tribute To The Stars" of that year, like Prince,Stevie Wonder,The Time etc. Each song they played from one of the stars they immitated the signature dance moves of those artist. Nice.

1.Prairie View . . .

As much as I love my Mighty Marching Hornets, there's no doubt in my mind that the greatest single performance I have ever seen by a collegiate marching band was the show Prairie View put on in Montgomery back in 1999. Unforgettable.

I'll have to review my clips, but off the top of my head a most memorable and fun experience was SU vs JSU 2005. Great day.

That was my last year in the band, and i'll admit they really impressed me

It couldn't have been better than Prairie View in 95 when they came to da Gump and stole our dayum crowd. :smh:

no particular order...

When Southern came to Jackson State in 1987, I was really impressed. I think it was the first time that I saw the "circle drill" (little did I know i'd see it 100,000 times after that). lol. Anyway, the drill was very entertaining and the band had a great sound.

I enjoyed Prairie View when they came to Mississippi in 1996. They performed at Mississippi Valley's homecoming and then at the Mississippi High School State Band Festival in Greenville. It was one of the best shows i've seen period. Great sound, Great energy, Great song selection, Great dance routine. It was really impressive.

In 1995 Alcorn came to the Capital City Classic read to HANDLE BUSINESS. :retard:lol. This was the last time I can say that I was VERY impressed with an Alcorn band. They arrived late and came in blowin Black and Blues. This was the year they drilled with 256 on the field. They had a GREAT sound in the stands all day... and their halftime show was KILLER.

In 2002 when JSU went to North Carolina A&T A&T had PRACTICED all year for that game. lol. If the Boom had showed up, it would have been a great battle. They had a GREAT sound and their show was very entertaining.

FAMU and Morris Brown Fall 1984. I can still here Famu playing Egyptian Lover.
TnSt and FAMU in Nashville 1988. Famu was blowing that Just got paid, Friday night.

These 3 games I can remember vividly. Especially the 96 PV band that came to Greenville High after they waxed Valley lol.

1984 Grambling vs FAMU - Atlanta Georgia
Grambling took 96 band members to face FAMU.

Don't You Get So Mad About It
Stop Doggin Me Around with modulation and voices
She's Blinding Me With Science
No Parking On The Dance Floor

1981 Grambling vs FAMU - New York City
Heat Lightning!!!!
Vaquero - Drill
Give It To Me Baby - dance feature
Is It Still Good To Ya - Vocal feature
I Just Can't Help Myself

To this day,..that is my yardstick band !

Bad Bands!!!!

The PV performance against Valley was in 1994...:pimp:

Performances that stand out to me are:

SU 96 @ PV..."Twisted" and "It Ain't Over Till It's Over" - These still stand as my favorite stand tunes by this band.

TxSU 03 - The "Ocean" finally returned to its pre-Japan status as a formidable opponent. They had a great sound and their shows were entertaining.

BCC 04 @ the Honda BOTB - Step In the Name of Love drill was tight, all formations were tight, the dancers went off, dance routine was on point. They were way better than their "big brothers" in Florida that year.

SU/JSU 05 - Great 5th quarter battle...10:27pm...lol...

1995 Ga dome FAMU vs Southern.......... Both played excape's " Who can I run too" I think SU did the thriller routine

How can I forget.....

PRAIRIE VIEW 2007.... I'm sorry. I will never forget them just walking out on the field and playing a few tunes ... then walkin off. Students in the stands said it wasn't uncommon for them to do that when the other band doesn't come... I was like WTF??????

 They did the Stanford University.

1981 - JSU/SU - J-Settes peformed wearing cowboy hats and danced to Knights by Night by Cameo. Dancing Dolls were the first dance team I saw that didn't wear the white boots and they were shaking that azz more than jello.

1982 - JSU/Texas Southern - Motion of the Ocean performed wearing playboy bunny outfits

1983 - JSU/SU - It was a Lakeside night by Southern. "Raid" and "Real Love"

1985 - JSU/Texas Southern - Battle at Robinson Stadium in Houston. Both bands played The Show and Down Home Blues at halftime. J-Settes danced to "Wild and Crazy Love" by The Mary Jane Girls.

1987 - JSU/SU - It was a Michael Jackson "BAD" night and a LL Kool J "I'm Bad" night. THe Dancing Dolls performed to "The Way You Make Me Feel" with the guys, J-Settes performed to "Jump Start"

1990 - JSU/Texas Southern - JSU had the Electric Chair routine, Alumni J-settes performed and JSU blew the sh@t out of "Lies" by EnVogue

1990 - JSU/SU - The best halftime show ever
