BACKLASH

I would have to disagree with Maxine Walters falling into that category, simply because Maxine has always been the one that thinks outside the box.

She has never been one to throw support toward a candidate simply because of political alliance, race, gender, or favors.

She has always been a proponent of getting our youth more involved in the political arena and has never been afraid to stand alone on any issue she felt that is what was called for.

I think her constituents are shrewd enough to understand why she's supporting Hillary and they know what they need to do to get that monkey off of her back, and I think she know as much about them.

But in all honesty Maxine was asked this question a week ago by Michael Basiden. She told him at that time it was simply a matter of familiarity, she just doesn't know Barack, and I believe her.

Hopefully the people that they represent are not that shallow. Then again I could be wrong. You would think their bases would look at what they have done for them and not look at if they support Obama or Clinton.

Hopefully the people don't see that deciding on the next President is some shallow issue. Once a politician is elected, they need to stop playing politics and start standing on firm ground.

So true. The corporate lobbyist are shaking in their boots because Barrack is not tied to any lobbyist because ALL of his money came from the grass roots. When Republican Susan Eisenhower(Former President and General Dwight D. Eisenhower grandaughter) endorsed Obama this weekend I think that sealed the nomination for him. But the African American old heads are in the same boat as the White old heads and that is they worked the system and played the game while they were in it. Obama is somewhat of an outsider of the Capitol Beltway..so he's not tied to any lobbyist as the old heads were. But hey like Barrack-O said he want to build relationships across party lines and age lines. It might be a new game in D.C.

If you think that corporate lobbyist and special interest groups are afraid that Obama might win you are sadly mistaken. You must have forgot about the Congress. Those lobbyist and special interest groups have Washington on lock. They don't need the President to back their agendas, they have most of Congress in their back pockets. That's who writes the bills.

Also, 99.99% of America had no clue Eisenhower's granddaughter endorsed Obama. Heck, 99.99% don't have a clue who she is. So please don't read a lot into that.

Those folks are dying Styles. They are old like them. The young folks will want to roll with the new school. Because it means change. Folks in those districts that are young and poor don't remember when those old head black politicians were stomping the grounds in our behalf. They see a new and dynamic type of black politician like Barack and he has that rock star capability. Young aspiring black politician will no longer utilize the old school model to run their campaigns. This whole process is about to change the game. I would suggest the old black guard get ready............a change is coming sooner than they might think. And you know what...........it is about time. They have done all that they can do. Time for the next generation of us to take over just like they did when they came along and let them enjoy retirement. So yeah I do think some of them will get voted out of office if the right candidate in their district shows up. Barack gets the nomination and he can single handily usher in a new regiment of young and different thinking black politicians. Folks want to be on the winning team.

It will be an exciting process to watch as this election unfolds.

JR, if you think the old guard is dying off then you are fooling yourself. There is always someone that thinks like them that is waiting to take their place. The old guard will never die off. Also, if you think that Obama doesn't need the old guard to win the Presidency then you are out of your mind. Blacks are not even the largest minority group. And in the General Election he can forget about winning those Southern states. Why are Hispanics and Asians supporting Clinton and the so called Old Guard? If Obama can't win those groups, he will not even win Cali and probably NY. And if that's the case, his Presidential run is dead on arrival. The worse thing Obama could do is to write the old guard off if he wins the Dem. node. That would be suicide.

I think Obama is doing very well in his bid for the Presidency and he's clearly has shown that he's far more shrewed then the Clinton camp, so I don't think you need to concern yourself with how he uses his strategy.

The old guard is dying bruh.........literally. By the way you are right, we are not the majority. The white folks are glad to see a candidate like Barack not be in bed with the old guard. You know that. Why wouldn't they? To them it is refreshing not to hear the same ole rhetoric since 1960 from our old head black Demos. The Hispanics and Asians are showing me that they aint down with a black candidate. Not to mention they feel obligated to folks who have been around to help their causes as immigrants. So I aint shocked. I wonder how they are going to feel if Hillary doesn't win the nomination. You are also mistaken if you think there a whole generation of us waiting to take over from the old black guard who has the same mindset they do. Aint many of those young cats like that. Look at the Harold Fords of the world. The population age group is changing. Just like here in Minnesota it is hard for an old school white boy to occupy the Gov. Office. These young white folks who run this state aint having it. As a matter of fact do not be shocked if our Gov is McCain's running mate. He is young and not tied to the conservative side of the Repubs. We call him a half demo- half repub Gov.

I know folks who support old guard want to see them hang on. But it is time to go. A new way of attacking the status quo is needed. I appreciate all they have done. But the time has come for them to step aside.

BTW, Obama would not have to worry about writing off the old guard if he wins. They will be spin doctoring and kissing his arse if he gets the nomination like they have been down with him the whole time. LOL

Yep.

I don't think it will be as bad as you guys are making it out to be if Obama won. He won't disregard the old guard like that. He will refocus their energy though which is very much needed. It should be aimed at taking back the black communities and organizing that effort.

The only thing I fear with this whole process is if whoever wins the pleged delegate count....they don't get overtaken by Super Delegates. That goes for Clinton or Obama. Just let the voters decide and then the majority of the Super Delegates need to follow that way. Then it will be no problems and no side would have beef.

Styles I don't think it's a matter of being shallow the fact is these people are elected to represent the people of there district and if your district is voting one way and you vote opposite of there wishes than they have right to vote you out. The truth be told if you look at the districts most of these people represent they are in the same shape or worst than they were when the old heads took over 20 years ago. The question is do these people even have a base anymore?

Brave I not saying it's a bad thing that some these older black polticians are voted out. I believe he will focus his energy on changing our communities and part of that change I think will and should be put new people with new vision
and different back grounds in congress to represent majority black districts which remain high in everything bad i.e. crime, unemployment and low in everything good like jobs, education, homeownership.

Good Point. I don't think Barack will act badly towards them either. He will try to unify the party. My comments were in agreement with Bigtyme about how these politicians constituents back home will feel when it comes time for them to run for re-election. They will know they voted one way and their rep sided the other way. So basically that tells me that the people and their rep are not on the same page. So there will have to be some explaining to be done in those communities especially to the young folks who wonder why the rep they elected aint down with Barack even though their district was. Just will be interesting is all we are saying. I am sure Maxine and John Lewis have a game plan in the event Barack gets the nomination. Same for Barack supporters if Hillary wins the nom. I am sure some of them will be spin doctoring as well. It is politics.

I do believe these old tyme politicians do have a small base, but that base is fastly being replace by incoming American immgrants, which goes to prove that these old tyme politicians are doing nothing to help their current base to grow and flourish.

Blue I heard Maxine Waters on Baisden too while I agree with her on most things I thought she was condesending and speaking in code that sounded errilly close to Bill Clinton in South Carolina. Comments like "who is this young man where did come from." At best that means she didn't do her research at worst that means he didn't kiss her azz enough. I don't have probelm with her supporting Hillary, but I do have probelm when the next week she goes on TV attacking Obama saying the same things Bill Clinton said and thinking it would be more platable coming from her. The reason she back off is because the people in her district complained now she's wavering with her super delagate vote. Go figure

I like Maxine and her husband is a Southernite, but she can be wishy-washy at times.

Her husband is a Southernite Sidney Williams fmr ambassador to the Carribean or Virgin Isles, class of 58. I really have nothing against her I think she has taken some couragious(sp) stands I just didn't like the fact she felt like she had to attack Obama or that she felt like she could get away with using the "Clinton Code Words" to demean him.

Are you'll going to protect Obama when the Republican attack/smear machine tears his azz up?

Well didn't you protect Hillary when she cryed like a big azz baby? Besides, Republiklans only attack weak defenseless people of color that they can make money off of while doing it.

I think that eliminates Barack.

Guys that really isn't attacking Obama you have to be honest with yourself. Obama is really new on the scene, maybe she really doesn't know the guy well.

She has every right to back H. Clinton, Clinton is a formitable canidate and I have no problem with any blacks supporting her.

The way I see it is after looking at both of their plans side by side, then listening to both, Obama is the easy choice for me....I'm sure some don't agree.
