Assault Weapons

This. Good luck when someone breaks into your house waiting on Mr. Officer to show up in 20 minutes. Also good luck with them being the only ones having guns and you can't own one lol.

No one to my knowledge is advocating a total gun ban. The Supreme Court has ruled that the 2nd Amendment gives every adult citizen that right. What's being debated is limiting the military style assault weapons and ammo.

They had a meth lab right next door to the police station in Alpharetta, Ga. Outside of Atlanta. How can you protect your citizens when you can't stop a dope lab next door to the police station.

So some of you want MORE guns…..

I understand the point of view that guns don’t kill people but people kill people. I also understand laws will be broken by the lawless. However can some of you try to look at this from another prospective….like in the eyes of the victims and the victims’ families? My wife teaches school, my sister is an elementary school principal, I have two grand boys around the same age as these kids that were killed, and I have never owned a gun in my life. If I get a call from somebody telling me that something like this has happened to one or more of my family members…AT A SCHOOL… I’m sorry, I am not going to have sympathy for somebodies right to bear arms so he can have the ability to shoot 100 rounds in 10 minutes and I really wouldn’t want to hear any pro-gun statistics neither. Also, I still don’t see how more guns will prevent something like this from happening in the future. These were KIDS at SCHOOL, TEACHERS and ADMINISTRATORS at WORK not gangbanger at the club. So are we heading down the road of passing out to the kids guns in school for protection instead of books? Are we going to see in the future a parent running after a bus because little Johnny forgot his glock? Is it going to be a requirement for teachers to have their teaching certificate and a gun license? You think its hard finding good teachers now.

If the only solution that comes out of this situation is more guns then maybe the world needs to come to an end if we have become that desensitize to violence….because we are going to end up shooting and killing each other anyway.

The argument can be made that if there would have been an armed guard at the school, Adam Lanza might not have shot 26 people.

Kids in high schools all over the country have to go through metal detectors before entering buildings, wear uniforms or have to wear clear backpacks in an effort to prevent violence. We've always lived in a violent world. It is a reality we have to live with. If it is not parents in the Middle East who have to pray their kids aren't blown up on a bus on their way to school, it's parents here who worry that something might happen to their kid in school. And people will consider anything to protect their children.

If you don't want a gun don't buy one. As for me I am not giving up my guns for no one. You have your belief and I have mines. In other words do you and us gun owners will do us.

I refuse to believe a country like the United States of America, who has put a man on the Moon, is said to be the greatest civilization the world has ever known, and the LAST remaining superpower can only say to these victims’ families and love ones….is ”shyt happens.” We are supposed to be better than that.
Also, again another more guns solution, if there were armed guards their and Lanza only killed just one person, that still too many in a SCHOOL….it’s a SCHOOL.

When folks advocate that more people need to carry firearms like teachers, because of the Newtown, Conn. School shooting, it is basically because they have the gang mentality that has been entrenched into this country's history probably starting back during the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. From Jesse James and his gang of outlaws, the Irish and Italian Gangs to the Crips, Bloods, and the Mexican Mafia, the mentality has been if you take out one of my boys I'll take out two (2) or three (3) of yours. Like Ice Cube said in Boyz in the Hood, "it just goes on and on". I pray that this country never return back to days of the Wild Wild West where everyone was packing heat and they took the law in their own hands.

Just because this country has put a man on the moon and is a world power, doesn't mean folks living here are more entitled to safety or isn't more vulnerable to experience acts of violence.

And yes, crap happens. A lot. Why? Because our planet just so happens to be populated by beings who tend to exhibit irrational behavior. It is why kids have to walk through metal detectors, are subject to surprise locker searches by police and a heavy police presence exists after classes end. Yes, this happens at schools. Schools where kids are supposed to be safe. But that is not a reality.

The Newtown school where the massacre took place was secure. Lanza shot through the doors which were supposed to protect those inside the buildings. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. It was estimated it took him two minutes to shoot all those people. That's not a lot of time. Maybe if there was guard with a gun, the death toll wouldn't have been as high. I don't want this to sound callous but would you rather risk having one dead security guard or 20 dead kids?

I have a mossberg 30-06, mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, a springfield XDM 45 cal handgun, and I plan on getting a modified AR-15. I hunt and if somebody breaks into my home and me or my wife is there they won't have a chance to regret it.

A modified AR-15? Why would you need a rapid fired automatic weapon? A weapon losses its accuracy when fired automatic.

~snicker~

My pops carried this in the military and left it to me when he died. It is my mom's property now.~snicker~:)

The best defense is to have a home alarm that can be placed on stay. Someone break into your home turn the lights off and fire this one time. If they don't leave then either they are scared shitless, they are dead, or they are crazy.

As I stated earlier, I never owned a gun in my life. It’s not like I made a conscious decision not to get a gun. I just never needed one. I have never had somebody to break in on me when I am at home. However, I’m not saying it will never happen. The life I try to provide for my family, the likelihood of something like that happening to me is so remote I don’t think I need a weapon of mass destruction to prevent it.

Also, I should not have to deal with irresponsible people who make bad decisions with dangerous objects capable of killing 26 people in two minutes. I’m of the firm belief that if Nancy Lanza was not able to legally buy those guns, then her crazy azz child would not have killed 26 people at a school. Could he have gotten the guns somewhere else? Yes he could have. But if I had to lose a child, wife, or a family member like this, I rather have that lunatic make a better effort getting a gun than him doing it with something just lying around the house.

Bigman, many on this board are not hearing you and see the world through their eyes only. They want the rest of us to join them in their paranoid hopeless view of the world. Personally, I refuse to live in fear and will support those who oppose this mindset politically.

Why should we listen? You and Bigman haven't listen to anything we have said.

Unless someone else posted this, I think all of y'all are missing a key point...the mother had all sorts of weapons in her home yet they didn't help her. And if she had busted a cap in him none of this would have happened.

If she didn't have guns, he still would have killed her. I am trying to understand you folks point. Killing has existed since the beginning of time. Folks will still kill. They will still rob, rape, hurt. Humans by nature are beast.

I don't believe many people expect their own kid to kill them.

We know you are not listening. We've been listening, living and observing what you are advocating for a generation and disagree with your position because it's not rational.

The point is she had guns but she didn't have [the chance] to use them. You can have all the guns you want...as you don't let someone else get them and do bad thing.
