Assault Weapons

In Pulaski County (Little Rock/North Little Rock), there are LRPD officers stationed at the high schools in the LRSD. There are 2 at Hall High where my youngest goes; since both my daughters went there, it's always been 2 police officers there (one male, one female). I believe there is an officer from the LRPD stationed at all the schools in the LRSD.

Do you know if there are any LRPD at private schools in Little Rock? I'm sure if there are, private tuition would be extremely high at those schools.

If voters are willing to pay tax dollars for it....see folks want safety but when you start talking about paying for it...folks STFU....

Pretty much what the crazy Republicans don't want to do....pay taxes. Hint: Fiscal Cliff.

There is no way that one is going to totally eradicate these things from happening or legislate it to a halt. 1) Criminals are going to get guns regardless of the law. 2) Ignorant adults are going to have access to guns and expose their ignorant offsprings to it (lol). 3) In most instances younger people are not mentally mature enough to have access to guns but the age requirements will not change.

Lastly, I am so tired of everyone blaming our president for everything inclusive of the weather and the direction the wind blows in. I guess it comes with the territory though.

Agreed, but it's my opinion that all known gang members/drug dealer should be prohibited to own a gun and if caught with one, there should be a really stiff penalty they should have to pay. Also, if a person that is classified as being mentally ill is caught with a gun owned by someone that is caring for them, the gun owner should have to pay some type of penalty and have his gun ownership privileges revoked. This is no diferent than revoking someone's driver licensing if they have been involved in too many accidents.

All, we will just have to agree to disagree. Nothing personal and no need to call each other names. BTW, what does AR stands for?

The "AR" stands for ArmaLite model 15, which is made by Colt. Some people are misled to believe it stands for assault rifle.

How are you going to prohibit gang members from having guns? Most of them are criminals that don't follow the law. Good luck on that one. :emlaugh: I agree with your law about gun owners relating to mental illness though.

Why do we have speed limits on our roads since many drivers ignore them? The answer is for safety reasons. The same applies to gun laws.

I can't speak for all, but some of the private schools have hired security.

The LRSD has security officers but some years ago there were several students caught with guns on campus. And there have several times where a gun was fired at some of the schools in Little Rock. Ever since then, LRPD officers have been stationed at the schools in the LRSD. I'm not sure about the PCSSD (Pulaski County Special School District).

Using some folks logic on here, the government might as well take away red lights, stop signs, railroad crossing signs, bus stop signs, and any other signs that help maintain traffic control. It would be just like the Wild Wild West, basically a free-for-all. :emlaugh:

Could you imagine how fast the number of head-on-collisions would rise if the stripes for divide roads with two-way traffic were removed?

Having a sheriff’s deputy at every school isn’t realistic just due to the lack of man power.

A former FBI official was asked about that on CNN today. He said it would be impossible because there just wouldn’t be enough law enforcement officials to go around and work at schools from early in the morning to late at night.

Police forces in many cities and towns are significantly under staffed as it is to deal with every day crime.

Then the guy asked the female anchor, “What about high schools and colleges that have multiple buildings?” How do you staff them?

He said, "You can't."

Kendrick...I said create a "mil tax" where the funds would go to hiring a sheriff. Thereby increasing the man power.

I am not saying don't have the law. What I am saying is it will not be a deterrent. Gang members are criminals. It is just what they do. :emlaugh:

Wossman High in Monroe has 48 cameras and a Ouachita Parish Sheriffs Officer assigned to the school. They highlighted them on the news today about their measures.

I used this logic in a debate with a friend about this topic today. Crazy people will exist regardless of any law. No single law will eliminate this problem, but laws to act as a deterrent to lessen the number of incidents. A lot of people's sole reason for not driving faster than they do is because there is a law saying how fast you can go on a particular road. Some people will ignore it regardless, but for a good chunk of people, they will take the law seriously. Gun control won't eliminate the problem, but if it lessens the number of incidents to the point where it saves the life of just one child, then it's worth it.

BTW, there's no need for name calling when trying to have a serious discussion about a serious topic. This ain't the smack board.

When it comes to public safety, I would rather have too many laws than not enough laws or no laws at all.

Oh, great another tax. Man, if governments want to protect citizens, why can't they make some fiscal sacrifices instead of bilking the public? I don't trust local governments when they say if we give them money for X, it will be funneled there. Nah, been burned too many times with that living in Cook County.

Gun and drug laws are for law abiding citizens, they are for safety also, yet the war on drugs has not been winnable, a war on guns isn't winnable also.

Police have radar guns and speed traps to monitor speeders, but how can police monitor drug users or guns?

Ya'll can have this discussion on guns, but as long as there is so called "intelligent life" on this planet, people can and will obtain drugs and guns illegally, law or no law.

Every high school in this area has an officer assigned to be at that school daily. Most middle schools, as well. I know of no elementary schools with officers assigned.

I wouldn't go that far. Reasonable laws are better. Don't want to live in a police state either.

This. Good luck when someone breaks into your house waiting on Mr. Officer to show up in 20 minutes. Also good luck with them being the only ones having guns and you can't own one lol.

Comparing guns to traffic violations is reaching, but hey I see your point I think...

The point was people know they're not supposed to speed but still do because they want to...as with most things in life. Dope is illegal and there's not a city in this country that you can't go right now and find whatever you want within 5 minutes of being there. The irony of the whole gun ban thing as i've pointed out more than once on here, the cities with the most gun violence in the US are the cities with the most strict gun laws. Pretty sure that's not a coincidence.

Man, I had a cat tell me the only the cops and military should have guns.
