Anthony Jones is OUT

Firing your HC should have been resorted to AFTER they gave Jones more money to hire better assistants. If you keep the money the same, you will get similar results.

Money wasn't the problem... Jones' was given money to hire an OC...he didn't want one. Jones loyalty to his assistants is what got him fired. He would never fire his assistants. He had basically the same staff the entire time was at the school. Now they all have to find a job with him. He had most if the same staff from when he was at Morehouse.

Exactly he knows JSU ass is about to get put back in its place in the middle of the SWAC. That why he hated it when Gram fired Doug sorry ass, but you can best believe that Grambling fans are loving where we are about to venture. Do your thang AAMU don't listen to GR he will disappear after SU crack that ass next week.

Will you shut your .5 a year winning ass up? If my school finished last in everything I would disappear like you should. Why are you even here? You are Lincolns bitch....shutup. Now you riding SUs dick? Have you no pride?

Jones ran a successful system but apparently not good enough. What will happen to the DC Towns? Ya'll have talent particularly along the offensive line.

Coach Jones

First, I would like to commend Coach Jones for an outstanding job during his tenure at AAMU. I don't know of any coach that is well liked by players, fans and supporters. AJ was dedicated to his players, coaches and fans who supported the AAMU program. The job that he did at AAMU will be great for future coaching positions and the best tailgating group in the SWAC wish him well as he continue his coaching career.

Re: Coach Jones

Look at the mans resume in the SWAC
correct me if I'm wrong.

He's been to the scg 6 times in 12 years.
I'm sure he has a winning record in the MCC
He has run a good clean program
He had a winning record last season, he even started out 7-0

To fire that guy after ONE bad season knowing he just lost at least 15 starters from the season before is low down, personal, and just something to get the new ADs guy on board. I hope the new guy has losing seasons for the next 5 years cause the AD is tied directly to him. He could've at least given the guy another year. This some bull

Re: Coach Jones

Anthony Jones did a god job for 12 years. As with anything else in life it is time to move on. Jones took us as far as he could take us. Jones lasted longer then anyone at AAMU and that includes Presidents.

Re: Coach Jones

I think AJ has done a good job. I can understand the AAMU faithful frustration of reaching the big game and not being able to get over the hump enough times. One thing I do know is one has to be very careful what is asked for because you may not get what you want (See Spivery & Mitchell @ S.U. and Bell @ jsu). This can work out real good or real bad for AAMU. Good luck on the hire....

i agree

Re: Coach Jones

All I'm going to say, it was a decision that AAMU made. They shall find out in the near future if it was a good or bad decision.

This guy.... Jones did what he could and we wanted more, that simple.

Wow, looking at this he had a better tenure than Comegy at JSU, who is still gainfully employed(for now). Bold move AAMU. I like it. Some people want to talk about how bad SWAC football is and still hold on to these old SWAC coaches. You can't have it both ways.

I concur.

Those people you are referring to lives in an oxymoronic type world.

Re: Coach Jones

Jones is a much better coach than Odums Barlow PBs coach or the Texas coaches. Grambling would do themselves a favor by hiring him

Re: Coach Jones

Ummm....you're one of them. Dawson Odums is your coach. He belongs in the same pile as Jones.

The jury is still out on Odums. He has only been SU's coach for one full season. Next year will be the proof in the pudding on how he follows up this season and improves with his coaching. You just don't like Odums. Ain't like he was a retread. He got an opportunity with players that are not his and we will see where he goes. I keep telling you clowns, the SWAC ain't going to attract some big name black or white assistant to coach in FCS. There are not many black coaches on staffs at these PWC FCS schools and the white boys think they have upside to get to FBS or at least be a head coach at a FCS PWC. So all you are going to be able to do is try to pry another HBCU head coach from them at the D2 level or some HBCU assistant who wants a chance. Yall leave in fairy tale land. Our jobs ain't as attractive as talking about. That goes for the MEAC as well. They got a handful of decent coaches but none that are lights out. Broadway, Jenkins and Pough at SC State are good coaches with 2 of them on their downside as they get older. The young hot assistants get scooped up and taken to FBS land where you can't get them back once they are gone. I would have loved to see what former SU TE Cal Magee who is the OC at Arizona could have done at SU. But we can't afford him. There is a Valley alum (Vincent Brown) who played LB who is at Virginia under London. Maybe he can be had if London gets fired this season. But more than likely London will get another FCS head coaching gig and Brown will follow him.

So basically you will have to roll the dice on coaches who are unproven or were bad situation. If Odums beats yall this weekend you are going to want to kick Comegy's arse. LOL. Even though Comegy has his faults. He is the most accomplished coach in the conference. What the problem is we PAY TOO MUCH for head coaches and not enough is left for quality assistants who may be up and coming. We are bad about missing out on guys then they surface at a PWC never to return.

Re: Coach Jones

We missed the opportunity to attract good coaches when we started paying Pete $200k plus. From what I understand, the individual who was the coach at McNeese then, inquired about being SU's coach after Pete's big contract expired the first time. I'm sure that $90k to $100k pay raise was his attractive interest. Instead, we gave Pete another 3 year contract extension.

The jury is still out on Odums. He has only been SU's coach for one full season. Next year will be the proof in the pudding on how he follows up this season and improves with his coaching.
