They were told that they shouldn't eat from it, and that if they did, they would die on that day.

The Serpent told them that if they ate from it, not only would they not die, but also their eyes would be opened and they would be like gods.

They ate it.

They didn't die, and God is quoted as saying, "Their eyes are opened and they are like US."

So, who lied? :)

We all need a little Gnosticism in our lives. ;)
