Re: An intersting take on Oprah - Ice Cube/Luda/50

i found her views a little hypocritical but i still liike Oprah..Oprah has been making money off of catering to the white folk for years...i know we can all look back to vintage Oprah shows and the audience was getting ignant..how many black people really watch Oprah?? see the problem with black america is we make up only 12% of the Union yet we have some of the major issues..Rap/Hip-Hop is something that we created and just because Oprah and myself are not listeners, does not make it wrong..thats the only thing some of these young black families have to look forward to..I know i don't have Oprah money to go to the ballet or symphony..but would we even go if we did have the money? Oprah has very little to say about her time in nashville and never mentions that she is a TnSU graduate..everyone is quick to embrace her but honestly she has been offending us for years..

Hey, hip-hop, quit your whining
Would somebody please tell the hip-hop community to stop whining?

Go drink some Cristal, buy some bling, pimp some hos or do whatever it is they do for amusement, but please, cease, desist, shut up already about how Oprah Winfrey has hurt their feelings.

http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/news/opinion/14890336.htm

Oprah actually does need to do a show with them.

Some of us chose to take that revelation with a box of salt. Some of us were left wondering when, how and why liking hip-hop came to be a litmus test for, well … anything. Winfrey went on to explain that her problem with hip-hop is that some of it offends her "sensibilities." She will not support music that marginalizes women.

You think maybe she could have been referring to the hundreds of videos where women are treated as props and accoutrements? Or to the ones where they are addressed in terms normally reserved for prostitutes and canines?
Here's what amuses me: These guys think they have a point. They think they've been wronged. And never mind the thousand and one ways their music has wronged us all.
The lords of hip-hop made their fortunes and fame by flipping the middle-finger salute to middle-American alarm and apprehension over their music, its explicitness, its violence and its effects. They were outsiders, loud and profanely proud in their rejection of white picket fence mores and norms.

Fine. They have every right.

But now they're singing the blues because the ultimate arbiter of white picket fence mores and norms wants nothing to do with them? Now they're seeking sympathy because they are denied a stamp of approval from Middle America's main gatekeeper?
Cry me a river.

Leonard Pitts, Jr. makes some very good points in his article...

"You can't have it both ways. You cannot curse people and expect them to support you, cannot offend them then ask them to welcome you. I'm reminded of what mama always said about respect: You got to give some to get some."

I mean, what do they expect? You can't have it both ways. You cannot curse people and expect them to support you, cannot offend them then ask them to welcome you. I'm reminded of what mama always said about respect: You got to give some to get some.

But if it's new to them, it's validation to me. For the better part of 20 years, hip-hop's overriding message has been, "Bleep the mainstream."

I don't care if she never bows to them. Just because you have a little money does not mean you control the world.

In that light, cuss in their tracks and wait on it! Some of their lyrics I DETEST. I will not listen to, copy it, buy it or allow it in my children's ears.

Oprah is the Female Black Pillar in our community whether we like it or not. She has yet to give props to any member of the Hip Hop Community. Just being real. No Jay Z, no Russel Simmons, No Run DMC, no NWA, no nothing.

But she'll have a broke down actress who did porn and some dumb ass white folks who had a stripper for their kids 16th birthday party.

Whether we like it or not the Hip Hop generation is taking over. The Hip Hop Generation has their first HBCU President in Arkansas, but hey no props.

Explain, please.

explain that Oprah has been making millions off of selling that white bullchit and no one has a problem with that...how many black people can really relate to what Oprah is talkin about? if she is going to attack her own race about rap, don't forget to bring Emeniem for the ride because he is selling to his race as well as ours..the show was suppose to be about Crash, and she knew what she was doing...Just like Star Jones comments about Beyonce and Lil Kim being to provacative...all this black on black jealousy...we are never satisfied and that should be a big concern...

It's not about race when it comes to rap, as to the reason she doesn't support it. It's about the disrespect to women... and more importantly-- the empty messages they (in general) talk about.

Oh, and I'm black and I can relate to her show.

Who says she has to? She aint got to do nothing but stay black and die----and pay taxes! I hate some of their lyrics and I hope she never brings those who are not sensitive to the NEEDS of those women in their own communities. UNTIL they take some responsibility for the degredation of women, then don't whine to a WOMAN.

ICE Cube says she should have them on the show and find out why they sing the lyrics they do. I'm sorry but it aint no explanation in the world for a man to call women byeetches and garden tools and then expect RESPECT....he better ask Aretha Franklin. Just because you came from the ghetto DOES NOT MEAN you have to remain GHETTO...but if you believe you need to "stay real to the game...by all means ....have at it."

Crit Oprah had a child actress turn porn star on her show. You mean to tell me she can't have an indepth interview with people who are molder of black youth? I'm sorry but you Hip Hop and rappers have shaped America. Oprah should give them their props and ask indepth questions.

She has not even had Kanye on there...and he made one of the most extreme statements a rapper could ever make about the leader of what is considered the FREE WORLD.

I'm not jumping on Oprah but you are Pro Oprah...and I'm Pro Ice Cube.

and hip-hop is going to make it with or without our support...stop blaming the radio for your child calling you a BiT**! if you'd control your household and stop letting Oprah and these rappers raise your families...

I don't see that as jealous. Beyonce and Lil Kim are provacative. I ike Beyonce' and will go to war about how well I think she can sing but provacative is as provacative does...no jealous in that....

If you had not noticed,.....I am black and I RELATE TO MANY things that are on Oprah's show.

Ok what's the difference in ole boy in Hustle and Flow being a pimp and Ice Cube a rapper?

So, since she's a "female Black pillar," she's suppose to support the Hip Hop community... The Jay-Z (who raps or at one point rapped about batches), the NWA (name self-explainatory), and whoever else??????????

And as far as the "broke down actress who did porn," Oprah didn't ask for her to be on the show. The girl reached out to Oprah, because she supposedly wanted to send a message to young girls. Did you even watch the show?

Well go start a show and put Cube up and let him and his hip-hop folks talk all day...Wait a minute, they have that on BET, right?

Ya'll men kill me! You want to hate on Oprah, but you don't see a problem with OUR WOMEN being exploited or being called batches, 304s and you buy hip hop music that sings with empty lyrics and promotes VIOLENCE among OUR PEOPLE! Hmmmmmmmm! OK! I see the direction our people are in. :smh:

Oprah is all about the money...she is just a classy Jerry Springer...and she will continue to cater to whites and educated blacks who watch her show...the lady is a genius, she is getting us to discuss issues that we would sweep under the rug in the past...Oprah is reading this forum as we speak bobbing her head to Snoop Dogs "Gin and Juice"

Ummm Ice Cube reached out as well....saying publicly that they need to be on the show. I guess Oprah doesn't know about Ice Cube leading a crusade to end gang violence in Watts...but that's under the radar because the brother was quiet about it.

Man yall come on....by Oprah having these guys on the show could show a phenomenal difference of opinion. These guys whether you like it or not are business men who came from nothing, just like Oprah. There is a strong positive side to them that white folks don't want anyone to see. Oprah can change that....
