Alcorn State hosting the SCG is proving my point

What kind of revenue do participating schools in the SWAC Championship game receive? Advertisement Revenue? What if as an incentive for schools to reach the SCG, money was guaranteed or is this already in place? I'm all for out of the box/creativity and doing what must be done in order for HBCU Athletics to survive and thrive...

Also, I love the way the crowd looks and sounds on TV. I feel the energy as well...

When the championships move it seems like it gets the dream match up. When it hits that dreaded Alabama-Texas matchup then we will see but it was a good look

This game (going forward) does NOT need to be hosted on a SWAC campus. Our facilities simply can't handle it.

I'm told a number of media outlets are not being granted credentials due to not having the appropriate space.

I know this may not matter much for fans, but it is a relevant point.

Ken, stop being a back seat driver. We have long agreed a local stadium is not large enough. . In all honesty with the exception of JSU no school has a home facility large enough to handle this event. Additionally, who can get ready for something like this in two weeks. I'm not going to blame my school I blame the SWAC office for moving from Legion Field. The game could have been held on Sunday obtaining an exception from the NCAA or moved to a larger venue. Even LSU may have allowed the SWAC to use their stadium. So no more arm chair quarterbacking. Move on.

I didn't realize I was being a "back seat driver." I'm not blaming ANYONE for the current situation because I'm actually grateful for the fact that we are having a SCG this year when at one point it was a fact that we were not.

I don't know who the "we" are with respect to those who indicated that the SCG should not be on campus, but there are plenty who still believe that it should. I'm simply providing a real-time example of one of the challenges associated with having this game on campus.

Kenn, you preaching to the choir. I had that same dread right after Alcorn won the game against Jackson State

Simply put, the SWAC got lucky. If AAMU and let's say a Texas Southern makes it to the SCG, what would that look like?

Can’t confirm but I was told the SWAC handles SU expenses and game revenue goes to host school.

I Love watching it on TV!

It actually looked like a Great game atmosphere!

I still think Folks will go to their Host teams Championship game no matter where it's at.

No media hate but just set up a separate area cause I rather see a packed Uapb Golden Lions stadium than an empty legion field or veterans memorial stadium in Jackson.

When I covered the Big 12 baseball tournament, and NCAA softball regional, the media setup was in the stands. Same for OSU basketball. Our area was literally the first row of the bleachers.

The public doesn’t care how comfortable the press is. They’re only so important.

The only issue I had, they parked buses of elderly SU fans in the back of campus, down the hills. Why not let them park by the gym like y’all normally do.

I enjoyed the championship on yesterday. I like the idea of having it on campus. Traffic wasn't bad in or out, the atmosphere was electric. I look forward to seeing Alcorn next year on the reservation. Mad respect to Alcorn even tho we lost. Good luck to Alcorn in Atlanta. Oh yea fuck ANYBODY who disagrees with having it on campus, yall don't know what yall talking about. If you don't want it on a certain schools campus, just do this, beat there ass during the year!

Thank You! I was trying to be decent with my comments. Lol.

You hit it on the nail. I believe the Swac office was more pleased with the turnout than satisfying media requests.

I love this format. Reward the conference best team. I would love to see Alcorn and All our other schools who dont yet have field turf get it in the future.

Could not the game be held in Jackson? Spending money on outside venues Is costly. Why not keep those funds in the conference?

I noticed the official attendance was 20,652. How is this possible in a 22K seat stadium with fans on the hill and temp seats. Seems to be a common problem of undercounting in several SWAC games this year.

Yeah, it could IF Jackson wants to host the game. I say this respectfully but some of us get so caught up in how things LOOK (on TV) we completely ignore the business side to all of this.

Unfortunately, the city of Birmingham got cute in hedging its bet with UAB and the SWAC. As a result, the city lost out on both side and potentially lost out on millions of dollars in revenue. The SCG is a product that cities would be willing to bid for and all the SWAC has to do is determine which deal makes the most sense.

Just because the product LOOKS good on TV doesn't mean that its good for the SWAC overall financially.

I agree the on campus SCG is more exciting!! A couple of questions... What happens if MVSU hosts the game and can only handle 10K fans? Also, I noticed the official attendance was 20,652. Same thing that will happen if PV or UAPB host it. I trust that Dr. Mac will discuss with every school on making accommodations in case their school hosts it.

In Valley's case, to be honest, the only schools that bring a crowd are JSU, Alcorn and UAPB (somewhat). I don't think Southern is taking over Valley, Alabama State or AAMU if those schools host the SCG.

As I said before, if they go with the on campus model, we'll see if it really works if we get a AAMU/PV matchup with either school hosting it not Valley because we are centrally located like Alcorn and JSU

No, seems about right. It was a great crowd, but it wasn't a sellout. There were still some gaps of empty seats that could be seen in stands.

We have to play the percentages. What the percentages of them schools making it to the championship? Valley, PV, UAPB, Txsu, etc....15 years out of 1?

With all due respect, other than media being denied(and I’m a videographer for a news organization, so I understand media frustration) what were the other negatives?
