Alcorn State hosting the SCG is proving my point

Can we get a round of applause for the lady ref.

No, seems about right. It was a great crowd, but it wasn't a sellout. There were still some gaps of empty seats that could be seen in stands.

Yep, I saw some areas where there were no people sitting.

People were standing, in the SRO , and sitting on the hills. If everybody would have sat down in the stands, it wouldn’t have been any room.

They are always on those hills for their games.

So you think the conference lost money yesterday? Just asking.

I'm not sure if they exactly lost but they could have did a better formula to make money since they are still holding schools NCAA basketball money.

I would prefer seeing the players get rewarded by playing the SCG game in a neutral site NFL type venue (Super Dome, Houston's Dome or Dallas Dome). I would allow a game in B'ham perhaps once every 5 years but with contracts involved that would probably be impossible.

You don’t think the Alcorn players were happy to play on their home field for the SWAC title?

Yea I saw her at Ameristar that night.

Yeah, it could IF Jackson wants to host the game. I say this respectfully but some of us get so caught up in how things LOOK (on TV) we completely ignore the business side to all of this.

Unfortunately, the city of Birmingham got cute in hedging its bet with UAB and the SWAC. As a result, the city lost out on both side and potentially lost out on millions of dollars in revenue. The SCG is a product that cities would be willing to bid for and all the SWAC has to do is determine which deal makes the most sense.

Just because the product LOOKS good on TV doesn't mean that its good for the SWAC overall financially.

Jackson St. has the largest stadium in the conference. Holding the game there would be a win, win situation.

I know I have been going to SU vs Alcorn games at Alcorn since birth. It’s usually not that amount of people on the hills.

Of course they were. I believe the champions of the West & East should be on a neutral field on a larger stage. I also believe all things even at the beginning of the year, student athletes would aspire to play in an NFL venue as a reward for division championships.

I aint one to gossip but I "heard" Alcorn cleared $500K last Saturday.

Rumor or not, I absolutely feel that it's better that the members schools are in a position to benefit from the SCG game than some "destination" site like B-Ham. Just go ask Alabama if it would rather have the SEC championship game at Tuscaloosa or Atlanta. Just keep it at the highest ranked member school site...guaranteed sellout, makes the regular season much more interesting, really rewards the regular season champ, $$$$$ get to stay fore %-wise in-house, etc. Why go stimulate B-Ham's economy? As much as I prefer H-town, same for it why go let them make the bulk of the money???

The SWAC stumbled into greatness by getting the foot from B-Ham...why would you ever want to do business with them again anyway after they straight revealed how they feel about you and the SCG??????

Having the championship on our Swac conference campus helps OUR community. Stop helping the rich get richer. I went to the casino after the championship game yesterday it was packed in Ameristar, I couldn't order my food like I normally do.

I feel the same way. We have to start investing in ourselves at some point. And as alumni, we have to step up and give back so that our schools can upgrade facilities. I'm hoping that TN State will eventually raise the needed money to upgrade or rebuild the on-campus stadium. We must keep our revenue on our campuses and in our neighborhoods.

AAMU fans will not fill up a stadium to watch inept play by JSU.

.
JSU doesn't need AAMU folks to fill up anything. We had the highest attendance numbers of any FCS school this year without your help. With those numbers, we would've sold out AAMU's stadium every game and then some.

Now I can agree with that.

Yep thats what the white folks do.

White folks really care a whole lot about using sports to feel good about who they are.

And .... they have more money to burn than we do, too.

Somewhat true...but we're not talking about a 100k stadium with all of the amenities. A good 30k stadium with decent parking will do for most HBCUs. A stadium like Veterans Memorial in Jackson sounds nice, but the reality is only JSU/SU and JSU/Alcorn actually fill it. I haven't been able to visit either of them yet, but the new Alabama State and Prairie View stadiums look pretty good and serve our purposes well.
