Errors cost UM baseball team in one-run loss

SPECIAL TO THE MIAMI HERALD
The UM baseball team’s defense, which has plagued coach Jim Morris’ squad in recent years, has been sensational this season in a run of six consecutive victories and 20 wins in the past 21 games.

On Saturday night, the fielding behind Miami pitching returned to its ways of old. The Hurricanes, ranked fourth by Collegiate Baseball and 10th by Baseball America, committed four errors in a 6-5 loss to Alabama State at Alex Rodriguez Park.

“All the things we’ve been doing for the last month to win all these games, we did the opposite [Saturday night],” Morris said. “We weren’t fundamentally sound, we didn’t execute. We’ve been playing great defense and we kicked it around and made four errors.

I recall certain folks denying the fact that Bama State baseball was head and shoulders above the rest of the SWAC. You know who you are.
Congrats on the win Bama State.

I wouldn't say that. He has yet to win a conference title. Great win though.

Congrats on the win Bama State.

Me and you don't agree on much but it was stated that all teams in the conference were even this year.

Its that crab mentality. Since we down everybody else is gonna come down too. Apply it to my team sucks so everybody else team sucks too and I don't care what y'all think :emlaugh:

Y'all dont understand how hard it is to win the conference tournament. SU O4 had 12 or more players to get drafted on that team, they were clearly the most talented team in the conference that year, but they didn't win the tournament. It has happen on numerous occasions. Those who actually go to the games know exactly what I'm talking about.

I stopped reading here. This aint about su though....

Who said it was. Like I said folks who have followed for years and actually go to the games know exactly what I'm talking about. All it takes is a great performance by the pitcher. The tournament will be wide open. The first games for the higher seeds are the most difficult, because everyone's #1 guy is pretty good.

SWAC fans already know this but at this point and time, Bama State has proven itself to be the best so far. Like we all say, anything CAN happen in the tournament.

And that is what it's all going to come down to.

Question, how many regulars did Miami have playing?

thats the question....in College baseball anything can happen specially in Out of Conference against a lower conference (Most Bigger D1 coaches dont take those games seriously from my experience) who knows what Jim line was...Also with 4 errors by the Hurricanes is pretty hard to win that way..at any rate good job Bama St the kids should be amped up about the win. Bama St and Pine Bluff have been putting in work this season.
