Alabama State does not belong in the NCAA Tournament

I feel if you are the regular season champion why in the hell can't you win a tournament in your own conference? People get p_ssed at other teams that up'ed their game and won the tournament but who's fault is that? If the #1 or 2# regular season teams can't win the tournament then they definitely can't win in post season play and will be in the same boat as the tournament winner so what's the fuss?

nonchalant,
My responses are not based on just ASU winning the tourney. Search this board kid. I have consistently said the same thing EVERY year. Whoever wins the tourney should get the bid. Period. But since you are making the case for this year that TxSou should get the bid, I just use the games and tourney from this year to say ASU should. The same could be for last year. Jackson State won the reg season, but with a trip to the Dance on the line, PB won. Why should Jsu get the bid. They shouldn't. To the victor goes the spoils! And the point 4Bama State made is VERY valid. It's not like you have some evidence that shows when our regular season champion goes to the Dance, they advance far.

you can schedule whoever you want to in the early part of the year, but by January, you'll be playing SWAC teams only, so your logic is flawed.

MH............I don't care about what you call "flawed logic". People in this conference don't GAS about being embarrased. Come January, in this conference, the way ya'll wired to think, it would not matter if we lost 1 out of every 2 games played. We would still make the SWAC tournament and that is all that matters. Having a losing record and being put down by the sports world means nothing and the comments here show it.

MO Power to ya and Bamma State.
I was just commenting on the article and the truths within it. I never mentioned Alabama states name outside of saying the commentators never mentioned the SWAC rep when discussing matchups. I was talking about every team including JSU.

Par for this conference. Half azz everything and happy about it.
Then blame it on YT when we get talked down too and beat down like an abused child.

That further proves my case. KU is the only D1 team I can think of who won their regular season and conference tournament.

The point it proves is that every conference gives their automatic bid to their tournament champion.

BTW, if people feel so deeply about this matter about the regular season champion going to the NCAA tournament and the tournament champion going to the NIT, email all the SWAC Presidents and the SWAC Office and make your stand. Complaining on the site will do nadda. While you're at it tell them we don't need a SWAC Football Championship just crown the team with the better record so people will stop crying about the playoffs.

Most regular season champion don't win their conference tournaments. The difference is their conference champions will still get an invite to the NCAA Tournament.

Well don't blame the teams that get to go to the NCAA. Blame the SWAC Office, they make the rules. So you're beating a dead horse. BTW, Alabama is the best playing team right now and the number 1 and 2 teams aren't playing so hot either.

One of these days, folks are going to realize that what happens in the regular season doesn't dictate what is going to happen in the postseason.

Example: Look at the Jets vs. Patriots matchup from this past 2010 season. The Patriots DESTROYED the Jets in a Monday Night Football Regular Season Game, but the Jets beat the Patriots in the Playoffs.

SWAC Teams can beat these big D-IA teams. The only thing that the D-IA teams have against the SWAC and HBCU teams is DEPTH. That is the only thing that separates a SWAC Team From a D-IA Team.

Alabama State and Texas Southern will stay play the game. You never know what will happen until the real action starts.

83,
I didn't bother to read the article. My position remains unchanged. Regardless of any team's record, the tourney champ should go to the tourney. Period.

btw, if the article is as you say "talking down", then I could easily post many other articles from the past couple of days about Bama State winning the tourney and going to the tourney that have positive slants.

still waiting on a response to that, from the folks who are saying the regular season champion should get the bid.
:scared::scared:

You want a response............Ok...........Just to humor this sad shat.

If you remember, That was the year SU and JSU was going at it all year. SU beat JSU in the conference tournament, It was also during the time when the SWAC was the last conference tournament to end while the selections was being made. After JSU and SU made the finals, THE SWAC COULD HAVE GOT TWO TEAMS IN IF THE IDIOTS HAD JUST MOVED THE GAME UP ONE DAY. They waited until 6pm SUNDAY NIGHT to play that game. The powers that be flat out refused to move the time of that game.

Su had a good team and Lindsey Hunter was on JSU's team. The NCAA wanted JSU in that tournament because of all the hype Lindsey Hunter was getting. They sent SU to the NCAA and they beat Georgia Tech. They sent JSU to the NIT and we beat UCONN on the same day.

Now whats the point of any of that in 2011 since our conference has went below the play level of a 6A highschool conference. As usual though, ya'll don't GAS about that. :smh:

Bama State if i were you and the team come out with a win, the main people that are against you i would tell them to suck it easy when the come back congratulating.

83,
Didn't jsu win the regular season that year? Plus, you went back HOW many years for that? 17, 18 years?

Surely, in the damn near 20 years since then, you can show where the regular season champion won in the Big Dance, (since you are saying the regular season champion should go)

All this talk and not one thing about the horrible overall play in this conference. Just more excuses and embarrasment.

OK..........Screw it.
Teams need to schedule the easiest teams around, rest players and win just enough games to get to the tournament, and then kick it into high gear. Why should we GAS about the regular season. The REGULAR SEASON IS MEANINGLESS IN THIS CONFERENCE because the only team that is going anyway is the tournament champion. We ain't getting 2, 3, or 4 of these sorry azz teams in anyway.

Problem solved.

I disagree that the season is meaningless. In fact, that is a bit of a stretch. The season is used to determine the conference champ who for the last two years have gone to the NIT. It also crowns and champion while providing the opportunity for teams to grow throughout the season (ie AlaState and grambling). Winning the regular season can also help you avoid the play-in game.

I don't think it was a co-incidence that two of the hottest teams going into the tournament were in the finals.

man.
Alabama State could come out and win by 40. It still don't make whats said any less true.

I'm done with this silly crap.
I just answered a question since ya'll was so stuck on getting an answer that means nothing in 2011.

And if you would have read the entire post, you would have seen where I asked what do this have to do with anything in 2011. I started posting here about the article and in true SWAC posting and mindset, people shy away from truths............Can't see the forrest for the trees, all that shat.

GOOD LUCK AT 5pm. :smh:

Man forget all that PWC, White team crap.............AIN'T EVEN HEARING THAT COP OUT. :smh:
This shat is embarrassing year after year. OUR BASKETBALL HAS NOT GOT BETTER. It has gotten worse.
END OF STORY.

This is where I stopped reading. When are the conference champion, you DEFINATELY need to be representing our conference in the NCAA Tournament. Who gives a damn about a 4-day tournament? Our conference is basically telling the NCAA that our regular season doesn't mean anything and we put all of our "credibility" in our conference tournament. That's the dumbest crap I've ever heard.

All this talk and not one thing about the horrible overall play in this conference. Just more excuses and embarrasment.

I agree.

Yup, I kinda figured you would be done with it soon enough.
:scared:

oh well, guess nobody can answer.........

congrats to ASU HORNETS and PV LADY PANTHERS for winning the swac tournament and getting the SWAC's automatic bids.

You are overlooking the IT factor.......Better coaches!

We lose those games too. What we NEED are bigger athletes and better shooters...but we mainly need bigger athletes. The SWAC team that gets two quality big men will not lose a SWAC game but those are elusive to us.

I say, screw the regular season. Let's just do enough to earn that #8 seed in the SWAC tournament and then go on to win it the whole thing. I mean, we can rest our starters and let our backups play for the OOC games and just play hard enough just to get the #8 seed.
