A Basketball Moment For Defending Champs

Obbie aint the leader of the team.... Joe is.

Obbie is too quiet to be a leader... Joe will get in players ass if they mess up... Joe dont like to lose. He was suspended for the first half of the JSU game for going off on TEAMATES after losing a scrimmage in practice.
Wasnt Obie 1 the leader last year? Did they transfer the staff of leadership on to someone else?

No better way to do it other than working in the ministry.

BTW, can I ride the bus with you guys to Jackson in November. I'm sorry, ride Spirit Luxury Motor Coaches. And can I ride in the 2006. I know it's asking alot. Never been in 2006, I bought a 2005 and then they came out with the 2006. I'm reserving my seat in advance.:read:

He was the leader in POINTS... Obbie has never been a vocal leader.... You will never hear him say anything on the court, he just plays. Same thing in practice... Obbie is kind of shy and quiet.

It's hard to lead that way, maybe the rest of teh team is still waiting for him to say something. He's very quiet from what I observed, not always a good thing. Maybe he doesn't want to be the leader, just a ball-player.

I have said many times that Obbie is NOT the best player on AAMU's team... I felt the same way last year... Joe is the best player on AAMUs team. Joe is sa monster. 6'4 and averages a double double..

Alabama A&M falling short of expectations

Defending SWAC champions start conference schedule 3-4;

Alabama A&M enjoyed a fantastic season a year ago, winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships and going to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.

The Bulldogs were expecting more of the same this season with most of the key players returning, including SWAC player of the year Obie Trotter, SWAC freshman of the year Marcus Jones and SWAC newcomer of the year runner-up Joseph Martin, along with the arrival of highly touted junior college recruit Michael Ford.

The script, at least thus far, hasn't played out as most expected, though.

Vann Pettaway's team, the preseason favorite, enters Saturday's game against Prairie View 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the SWAC. The Bulldogs are tied for sixth place and have already nearly lost as many league games (4) as they did all last season (6).

After a 3-1 start in league play, Alabama A&M has dropped three straight road games, including Monday's 77-74 loss at Alcorn State.

The problem?

"The breaks we were getting last year we're not getting this year," Pettaway said. :shame: :shame: "We have really hurt ourselves because we have had leads late and we've found ways to self-destruct, from not executing on the offensive end to blowing assignments on the defensive end. We're one or two plays away." :shame: :shame:

Trotter and Martin, for the most part, have played up to expectations. Trotter, a senior guard, is averaging 16.8 points and leads the team in assists and steals. Martin, a senior swingman, is averaging 16.7 points and a team-leading 9.8 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, Ford (11.8 ppg) and Jones (6.3 ppg) have been plagued by inconsistency. :shame:

Alabama A&M's main problem has been the lack of production from its inside players. The quartet of Chris Collins, Mickell Gladness, Kevin Smith and Norris Arnold are averaging a combined 10.3 points per game.

And the Bulldogs, traditionally a strong rebounding team, are routinely getting whipped :smash: on the boards. During their current three-game skid, they've been out-rebounded by a combined 34 boards.

"Everybody knows that's our weakness," Pettaway said. :goof: "We've got to find a way to get more out of those guys."

But Joe wasnt on the team last year, was he? If not, then who was the leader last year that lead them to the promiseland?

TP will be upset that Mark Alexander did an article on AAMU. All this time TP said that AAMU is a nobody, but now we are being written about in the one of the top newspaper in the country. This is great news for our school and nobody can ever say again that we are smalltime, because Mark Alexander the #2 reporter in the covering the SWAC recognized the Basketball School.

Joe was on the team last year.... He was all SWAC and SHOULD have been MVP of the SWAC tournament.

So Joe lead them to the promiseland last year? I was really under the impression that Obie 1 lead them there. That was all we heard on this board last year from you all.

I said Joe should have been SWAC tournament MVP... he had a better tourament than Obbie.... but Obbies final game where he hit about 9 treys wrapped that up for him. They play two different posistions but Joe is a better player than Obbie IMO....Joe can play every posistion on the floor. Matter of fact Obbie didnt really have a MVP season until the second half of last year. Maybe he will turn things around the second half of this season.

MD, if Obie is the leader and we all know he is, he need to act like the leader. I haven't seen any leadership from him this season and I know he has it in him. The clock is ticking, he better step up starting Saturday. He hasn't been destracted like one of your past players a few years ago? I think you know what I mean.

He must have read what you typed.... Obbie was on fire tonight....

Obbie had 30
Mike Ford had 29 in 24 minutes
Joe Martin had 17

the three combined for more points than Texas SO whole team.
