I don't see the things you say you would change as radical. Most people don't even notice that stuff. All we would ask is that your band is on point! If you can accomplish that, u will be fine.

I do think your drills would be sorry and basic however like that of a MEAC band. :lecture: The only thing you would catch hell about would be changing the DM style. You can still have the HDM doing the things you want them to do. But for the football fans, as long as they know that they are there to support to team and ignore that sorry band across from them, u will be straight!
I think the old heads would be fine. These changes would be radical for the students. Kids today are just not used to working that hard and I might lose too many of them.

The DM's would be a fight, but the dancing would be a bigger one. The fact of the matter is I really don't like bands dancing at all. That is why we have dance teams in the first place. Besides, almost anyone can dance without playing an instrument at the same time.

I would not discard any drills, but I sure would add a bunch. Believe me, I can put a complete new drill (about 12 pictures) on the field and ready for performance with 250 HS kids in about 90 minutes of rehearsal. College students should be even quicker.

You shole is right....you SHOLE is right!

Tp even though you know nothing about band...you should atleast know "self smack" when you see it..
You basically "shole right" to someone who clearly hates SU...he hates SU so much he said SU can't be great if a school so low as jsu is ranked over them in every catogory....

Now that's what he said....even though it's a lie...that show you how much he think of his own school...

Dacon was sholl right....smh
This is a new low

No offense Prof K but Grambling band is one of the countriest dancing units in HBCU land. Yes our DM are a little flashy but they at least do it with some style and flare. Gram be it legendary needs to exist stage left when it comes to country dancing. And the dude who's band breaks into boxes and does country dances, then brings big girls and the token white dude up front needs to exit the stage behind you.
No offense taken. Most of you dont know jack about marching band, let alone music, to begin with. When you've taken a Harmony class & a Eartraining and Sight Singing Class...ANYWHERE! THATS when I wanna talk to you. Till then? Well...nice chick in your sig! :)

You know I tried not to go there....
But I guess that old "Motown" appearance supposed to be bigger than a Superbowl or a president inaugural......

SU and GSU both did multiple of both and ROSE BOWL parades....

Either JSU ain't good enough or they too country.... let them take their pick..

Dude, when you alll went to the inauguation the last time Dr. Liddell said something that let everyone know he was talking about Grambling. He said that sometimes those decisions are political and have nothing to do with quality of the band. They invited Delaware State and Howard not becasue of quality of the band. However, they did invite Delaware State so maybe quality of band was a factor...poor quality.

Man, we are not as country as Grambling, Alcorn, AAMU.
...and places like Montgomery and Baton Rouge are Country Getto. They ride horses through downtown wearing blinged out!

Dude shoot yourself for this one...

Out of ALL of the inaugurals SU, TnSU, FAMU and GSU were apart of..... JSU nor any other Mississippi HBCU represented Mississippi in the inaugural.. stop fooling yourself....It's clear what we been saying about Mississippi... I ain't going to lie and say JSU isn't good enough...
But the same reason Mississippi pimps jsu and have yall renting is the same reason yall will never represent the state of Mississippi on a level such as the PRESIDENT inaugural parade or RoseBowl or Superbowl....

I mean hell TxSU did a Superbowl.... only a fool will sit here and laugh like they don't know the real reason Jackson haven't done those things.... But the little black boy school was able to do "Motown"... wake up son...

You are definitely right about kids today and working hard ...

As far as drills go, I would love to see it but I would hate for JSU to do drills like Norfolk State or A&T where the band marches 10 steps and stands still for 20 seconds then moves 10 more steps and stands still for 20 seconds. That's not drilling to me.

..as for the dancing: I didn't understand you to say no dancing at all. Yeah, that would be a challenge and only thing on your list that would be a major problem. Yes, anyone can dance without playing an instrument but not everyone can entertain a crowd and show creativity.

Well sorry Prof K but I play trumpet and piano. I received scholarships to Miss State, Ole Piss, Southern Miss , Alcorn and JSU in both academics and band. So I know a little music. What does that have to do with country bands. dancing.

You do know JSU orchestra was invited to two events during the Inauguration right.

If a Superbowl was in Jackson, I am sure we would be in it...sheesh! Also, maybe Louisiana had nothing else to offer for an inauguration so they send SUcks' band.

We're all from the south but we're not all country. Coutry is white shoes , dancing behind the dancing girls, all white tuxes, all black tuxes dancing in the streets in Washington, or the Buy You classic.

Just because you live in the south you're not country. Shoot Florida is the south and it's some real country folks in Miami, Orlando,Daytona, and Tallahassee. Get real man.

Well sorry Prof K but I lay trumpet and piano. I received scholarships to Miss State, Ole Piss, Southern Miss , Alcorn and JSU in both academics and band. So I know a little music. What does that have to do with country bands. dancing.

They assume none of us have any musical training in our backgrounds. I started band in 4th grade. sheesh

SMH. I don't understand how someone can call another person a liar.

Dude I still have the acceptance letters in my freaking Senior Book. I still have the JSU band camp info and the tape that shows how may scholarships I received on class night.

You see my Highschool prepared us for college. They set up these weekly Recruiting meetings with all the Universities in the Sip. WE got excused from class to speak with the recruiters and fill out applications. The kid even got a Scholly to Tuogaloo.

This is why everyone views you as a clown. You can't understand that other people acomplish anything. yOu can't seperate yourself from Lossianna. Other Bands are good, other school are better than your little bitty mind cand comprehend.
