My Predictions for SWAC Football 04

AAMU: Will continue to have the best defense in the SWAC, but lackluster offense will show against the top 5. The MCC will determine the fate of AAMU. Will play a close game to Alcorn & Alabama St.. Will shut out at least 2 teams in the SWAC. AAMU is trying to set a name for themselves since nobody really heard of them untill they joined the SWAC. Record 7-4. Loss to JSU/Alcorn, GSU, SU, Tenn. St./ASU.

ASU: Will not be as good as they were last year. Coe will be using his own system instead of Coles. Will find it very hard to find the players Cole got. Balanced offenese turns out to be the threat of the SWAC. Has holes to fill on defense. Will fight 4 last minute games; will lose 3 of them. Fate will be determened before the last game. Record 6-5. Loss to JSU, GSU/SU, Alcorn, Valley/AAMU, BCC/or other opponent.

Alcorn: JT will prove that he is not the same coach he was when he was first hired. Very hungry for a SWAC title. Will have a high powered offense but more balanced. Defense will be even better. Will have the best QB or 2nd best QB in the SWAC. Losses will be determined by 10 points or less. Will sell out all four of their big games, especially against SU (sold out the day before the game). Battle for SWAC EAST will be in the CCC. Record 8-3. Loss to AAMU/ASU, GSU/SU, NCAT/SEL.

Grambling: Will prove that they they don't need Doug to be good, just won't be as good as they have been for the last 6 years. Bruce will not be as good as he was this year. A slight improvement in secondary. Will continue to have high-powered offense. Will have to pull a miracle against Jackson St. or Alcorn but will fall short of one of them. Will come up short in the Bayou Classic. Will have a sellout against Jackson St. and Alcorn. Record 8-3. Loss to Alcorn/JSU, SU, ASU.

Jackson St.: Bell will prove alot of people wrong and will be the surprise team of the SWAC. Will upset one of the Louisiana powerhouses. Even without Kent or Manning, JSU will have a good offense; not the best. Will be battling for SWAC EAST but fall short in the CCC. Fan base will rise back to the usual. Record 7-4. Losses come from Alcorn, Alabama St./AAMU, SU/GSU, Hampton/Tennessee St.,

MVSU: Totten realizes that he doesn't have personel to run his offense. Offense become alittle better. Will continue to be good against the pass. Will give Alcorn and Jackson St. a run for their money. The record might be bad but will no longer be a pushover. Will overflow their stadium against Alcorn. Record 4-7. Wins come from Delta St./or replacement, Paul Quinn, Prairie View, ASU/AAMU.

Prairie View: will have an improved team but still will not be able to hang with Grambling or Southern. The SWAC will not be playing 2nd stream against them next year. Improved defense and slightly improved offense. Should have more people to fill up their new stadium. Two of their wins will come down to the wire. Record 4-7. Wins come from Tex. Southern, UAPB, Paul Quinn, and Texas College.

Southern: Will continue to be on top of the West again next year. Non-stoppable offense will win most of their games. Will have a slight improvement in the running game. Will have a lot of holes to fill in on defense. Will win the west in the Bayou Classic. SU two losses will be decided by 10 points or less and one of the in the last second. All wins except one will be blowouts. Record 9-2. Loss to Alcorn/JSU, and Alabama St. (Revenge).

Texas Southern: The new coach will endure TSU's problems and dept that the football program is in. One diminsional offense and lack of depth will definitly show against the top 5 teams. Will get upset by Prairie View and UAPB. Will get blown out by 4 teams in the SWAC, 2 of them shut-outs. Is also going to be homecoming bait of half of the SWAC. Record 3-8. Wins come from Howard, MVSU, AAMU/ASU.

UAPB: Will face the consiquences of hiring mediocre coaches. Continuing to go downhill. Will finish last in the West. Running game will be ok. Passing game will one the worst in the SWAC. Defense will be the worst in the SWAC. Possibility of getting shut out by AAMU for the 4 time out of 5 years. All wins will come at the last second. Record 3-8. Wins come from MVSU, Kentucky St., and Tex. Southern.

JRock, I think you have it all backwards. On paper, it appears that no team in the WEST can touch Grambling and on paper it appears that no team in EAST can touch Alabama State. But we all know what paper is good for.

EAST
1. Alabama State
2. Jackson State
3. Alcorn State
4. AAMU
5. MS Valley

WEST

1. Grambling State
2. Southern University
3. Texas Southern

Obvious Alcorn slant. :lmao:

Mach, Grambling has been in Alcorn's way for a long time. I have predicted the Alcorn victory for years and I have been wrong every time. I guess that all we expect is another good game because those have been some great matchups the last few years!! Spears first challenge is against his alma mater. I do believe that Alcorn has the better coaching staff but they need to improve their depth chart to move ahead.

This is rather easy, the east will be represented by a school from Alabama, while the west will be represented by a school from Louisaina. The rest of you are schedule fillers. Not trying to smack but thats the way I see it. :tophat:

Well, we shall see about that.

Alcorn's DC has had great years at Pine Bluff and the defense at Alcorn came around last year by midseason and helped to win games. Gram's defense has left a lot to be desired for several years. Even Morris Brown was eating that secondary up.

Please don't tell me that you think Sammy White can compare to McKenzie???

You do realize that Sammy just got the OC job right. Why not compare Spears and Thomas as head coaches while you are at it.

Mach, what the "L" are you talking about???!!! :splat:

Gram's defense has been terrible and no stats will prove that. You may have been able to pad stats against weak opponents but that does not change the facts. Actually Gram had a decent defense in 2001 but other than that??

TP,

You are not being objective with your east prognosis. You all simply got drug by Alcorn & AAMU last year. You all have not closed the gap with those JC players. If you have cowards on your team, AAMU will sell you a wolf ticket in a heart beat. I think they will clobber you all again. Bama State & Alcorn just have superior talent to you all. Beware, the Valley game is not a given either as you all are very close to their level. The 2nd largest classic and game in the SWAC (Magic City Classic) will determine the eastern representative. You may have been a little more objective with your west "guess." The Southern/Gram talent is very close and could be looked at either way by the "layman." The Bayou Classic will be another masterpiece but S.U. will prevail.

Thank you for telling me how objective I am JRock!! What does last year have to do with anything?? You got clobbered by JSU in 2002 but beat us in 2003.

Dude,

Why would you even suggest Bruce won't be as good this year as in years past. He will have the best single season any DI-AA quarterback has ever had. Take that to the bank.

You are right that we will prove that we don't need Doug Williams to win in the SWAC.

Why would a miracle be needed to beat J-State period, but to add to the obvious, we play them at home where we hung 60 on them two years ago. Besides that, James Bell is still there coach.

Alcorn will be tough as always. This is the only game on our schedule that I am seriously concerned about other than the BC. Alcorn plays us tough year in and year out. Take that along with the fact that they accomplished some milestones last season (beating J-State and SU in Baton Rouge) will give them a lot of confidence coming into Gram to "exorsize the demon" so to speak. They could be trouble for Spears' 1st game.

Going to play at AA&M will be challenging but the Dogs just don't have enough fire power on offense to be dangerous.

SU is alwasy SU regardless of records and the BC will be another classic battle as usual.

MY PREDICTION*********
Very good shot at running the table through Birmingham to finish 12-0.
Possibly will finish 11 or 10-1 by losing to either Alcorn which will make us 11-1 or to SU leaving us 10-1 and on the oustide of the SCG. Will not lose to both though.

Official Prediction. 12-0 2004 SWAC CHAMPS "Reclamation of Dominance"
