Make no mistake about it, shsu has athletes. Serious athletes. Their defense was a SWAC defense. ::read:: Nothing but brothers dressed in klan attire accented by that ugly urnge lol.

Way too many mistakes w/ fumbles and penalties.

PRAIRIE VIEW – Few FCS football teams can match Sam Houston State's explosiveness. It's tough trying to stop or contain the Bearkats' offense under the direction of senior quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe.

Yet Prairie View A&M surpassed the Bearkats in moving the ball against the nation's third-ranked FCS team in its 2017 season opener. The Panthers had their share of moments on Thursday at Panther Stadium and they did not back down. Not at all.

Despite some late heroics by Prairie View and a successful fourth-quarter on-side kick recovery by the Panthers, Sam Houston prevailed 44-31 in the non-conference matchup.
"We thought they would be a handful and they were," Sam Houston coach K.C. Keeler said. "I'm impressed with their team. We knew that they were going to be a good team. They hit their money downs."

Sam Houston (2-0) led the entire game and 30-17 at halftime. But the Panthers would not go away. Penalties were a key factor as the Panthers were penalized 16 times for 200 yards to offset their advantage in yards 499-412. The Panthers, who got three rushing touchdowns from Dawonya Tucker, had possession of the ball for 36 minutes, 51 seconds.

"Against a team of that caliber, you can't give them 200 yards," Prairie View coach Willie Simmons said. "We outgained them but you tack 200 yards of penalties, that makes it 612 (yards)."

Happy that SHSU got out of Blackshear with a 'W'.

Knew it wouldn't be pretty but ultimately going 1-0 on the week wins the day.

SHSU, PV both dealing with Harvey-related crap of the last week or two. SHSU playing on a short week after facing a top 10 opponent in a neutral site game in Waco. A few key players on a so-so defense did not play due to injury, banged up including our FCS Defensive Player of Year candidate PJ Hall. Gotta hope defense will be better, gotta hope that 10 days of normal will help Kats rebound for a very tough SLC opponent.

SHSU won the game on the scoreboard, but can't deny that PV gave SHSU all it could handle and then some...

Basically SWAC Football is at the Bottom of The Barrel when is comes to collegiate football! How can all of these start up programs consistently beat SWAC schools who have been playing football for 60 years???

HBU just started playing football in 2013 and already beat Texas Southern.

Southeastern Louisiana University beat Alcorn in their 2nd year back playing Football.

Lamar University beat PVU 31-0 in only their 3rd year back playing Football and then the very next year they beat Grambling in their 4th year back.

WTH???? This is beyond sad...........

Well I wouldn't put programs that were dropped then came back in the same pool, because they already had the needed infrastructure in place. PV did the same thing once they came back also.
PV lost this Game on the 1st Series. That Unsportsmanlike foul flipped the Game. PV could have taken Control but emotions got them behind 7 points.

I can't say that I agree with this at all. The fact that they were still just two touchdowns away from winning up until the last play, shows that they over came the penalties .

At the end of the day they didn't execute when opportunities were there in the second half and, I got to believe not having their starting qb play in that second half took away from their momentum

But if you dont give up that 1st Touchdown, you start and with good field position then its a different 4 quarters. You talking about some questions running in SHSU head.

Oddly, literally 1 hour ago, Nicholl St's football team blew past me @ 70+mph w/ police escort on Hwy6 in the nasty-soda. aTm-b/cs will help soften them up for us, I'm sure. *whistling*

I'm late, but great game on Thursday! Should be a close one this weekend. Nicholls just might compete with SHSU this year for the conference. After their first two games were close, you all should have great film on them. Yall should finish 2-3 against the SLC this year.

Nicholls ain't getting past Southeastern and Sam. Might not get past McNeese this season. They'll compete, but I'm thinking third at the highest in SLC play.
