Could Mike Gundy replace Les Miles, again?

The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Gundy is being considered for the head coaching job at LSU, where Miles was fired earlier this season, although he appears down the list.

The newspaper considers Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, a former LSU assistant under Miles, as the favorite, along with interim Tigers coach Ed Orgeron, who has led the team to a 4-1 record.

I agree. Then they can just hire a good OC who could possibly be a HC if Oregeron fails. LOL. I think they will hire Art Briles as OC. Just a sneaky feeling on that. Dude aint getting a HC job with all that baggage from BU. Finebaum said everyone he talked to said Briles can't be hired as anyone's HC without backlash. For now. A couple of years as an OC at somewhere like LSU could get him back in the mix after the controversy dies down.
 
Besides Saban and Meyers, LSU is sitting in position that they can go after almost any coach they want with the talent they have and being in the SEC.

I don't think it's as easy as you think. At the end of the day, Coaches want that money. I think LSU is not trying to break the bank (Boosters that it is) so it don't look so bad after all that LA has been through with budget cuts. And after those 2 coaches you named. Who can beat Saban consistently? It is not going to change at Bama just because they hire say Gundy or Jimbo Fisher. Saban still going to be Saban. You need more than just talent to win consistently against folks. Some coaches will be scared to take on Saban like that when they have an easier path to the playoffs than dealing with him. Just saying. For example, David Shaw aint leaving Stanford because he got it made at his alma mater. Only a NFL HC job can probably pry him away. Same for a Jim Harbaugh.
Dabo Swinney would never leave Clemson for LSU. Now for Bama his alma mater he would. But right now he got it made in Clemson. He can just sit back and wait on Saban to retire and them Bama folks already got the cash waiting on their alum. LOL. That's no knock on LSU or LA talent. It is just not that many coaches that can come in and start dominating Saban right now. Gundy or Jimbo surely will not. LOL. Might as well keep Orgeron. Give him a chance. He is 4-1.

I doubt this would happen, but I'm pretty sure if someone like Pete Carroll would land at LSU, they would definitely knock heads with Saban. Remember, Saban came back to college football because he couldn't get it done in the NFL, whereas Pete Carroll is still in the NFL with a Super Bowl ring. The problem LSU has, there's only one Pete Carroll for now. And if coaches are scared to challenge Saban with LSU's talent, that says a lot about their ability to coach.

According to James Smith of NOLA.com, the school has contacted Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, in addition to North Carolina coach Larry Fedora.

The report also states, however, the LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron remains a top candidate for the position, along with Fisher.

The report cites sources “with knowledge of the situation,” who were given anonymity to speak freely by NOLA.com.

Other names being considered by the school are Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy and Houston’s Tom Herman.
 
It's Jimbo's job to turn down...If he does they'll keep Orgeron and if he's cleaned up his act they'll hire Steve Sarkasian as the Oc.

More excuses for Saban's failure in the NFL. Saban is not some superhuman. Somebody needs to step up and challenge his weasel looking behind. This is why I like Pete Carroll. He took the NFL challenge and stayed with it.

Not an excuse. Brees went to NOLA and figuratively saved that franchise. No Brady, no Patriots.

If it were so easy, why doesn't every team have a franchise quarterback?

Pete Carroll left USC because the heat was coming down on him and he knew it

Question...Couldn't Saban override what his medical staff did not approve??? I guess Saban is not good at picking NFL talent, but Sean Patton is. No matter what you say, Saban can be beaten on a regular on the college level.

Brees didn't pass physical tests to the Dolphins liking. That's why Saban couldn't sign him. Saints liked what James Andrews said and the rest is history.

I don't think Saban is unbeatable. Folks get caught up in the Bama hype and oftentimes beaten before hey get on the field.


And yes, Sean Payton is a far better evaluator of talent on the pro level.


If it weren't for his college time, you could consider Saban another failed Belichick assistant

Pete Carroll makes what 8 million a year? With a Multi- Billionaire owner that could buy LSU whole school and not break a sweat. LOL. Nah he aint coming to LSU or any college program. Dude will be 68 years old when his contract ends in 2019 I believe.

Yall give LSU too much credit. Just because there is talent in LA. Doesn't mean coaches want to be there. Hell Florida and Texas got talent. So does California. You see some of those coaches. Right now there is no Nick Saban level coaches out there really. Urban and maybe Jim Harbaugh or David Shaw are the next best. LSU don't want a coach to go 9-2. They want National Titles now in their mindset. So anything else would get a coach fired. They will be fine once ole Nick retires. All the tactics he is doing down there in Bama is Bellechek ish. LOL. Plus he is still capable of coming to LA and taking at least 3-4 good players that can put him over the hump over all the LA great players who stay in the boot to go to LSU. Going to be interesting. LA has always had great players. Nothing has changed. But depending on WHO takes the LSU coaching job will mean others don't rob the state for kids like they did PRE-SABAN. You know Urban, Harbaugh and others just waiting on LSU to fugg up this next hire and they will be in there like white on rice. Because you know some kids just want to get away from home. LSU has to make the right hire on this one or it could set them back. I say they stick with Easy Ed as he knows the state and all he has to do is hire a good OC and he will compete with Bama. Mike Gundy aint impressive enough to OVER Pay to get his arse kicked by Saban and maybe other SEC coaches. Just my 2 cents. I certainly would not want him coaching my Buckeyes if Urban left. Hell he wouldn't even get an interview in C-bus. LOL.

LSU best be careful with their decision. Some of the sleeping giants in the conference are starting to wake up again (Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida)

I'm not giving trying to give them any credit. And I didn't say Pete Carroll would leave Seattle for LSU, but instead a coach with Pete Carroll's mindset. And yes, LSU does have talent. Someone needs to step up to the plate and challenge weasel looking Nick Saban. It's boring as hell watching the same coach and team win every year. IMO, LSU has the talent to do it with a coach with the right mindset. I would hate to think Meyers ran to Ohio State because it was an easier path to the playoff. I think Steve Spurrier could have challenged him if he could have gotten some talent at South Carolina. Nick Saban is just another man who has a strong will to win. Before Nick Saban got to Bama, teams like ULM and LaTech were kicking their butts.

Oklahoma State could possibly win 10 games for the 5th time since 2010, which would put them in the same class as the Oklahomas, Ohio States, Florida States and Alabamas of the world in terms of the most 10-win season during that span. And that's impressive, considering OSU doesn't get the depth of talent some of the other P5 schools acquire.

Gundy can recruit really good players on offense, especially QBs. Mason Rudolph, his current QB, is more than likely going to be one of the top QBs taken in draft this year. And we know how much LSU struggles on offense and at the QB position. Gundy can develop guys at that position.

That's been the difference between Alabama and LSU over the years.
