They damn sure do. Mullen didn't offer anything until USM missed out on who they really wanted. This is a straight power move to press them into a decision. Damn they know how to look out for one another. As of this moment Hopson is #2 on their wish list at USM. They may promote internally or go offensive minded if they don't choose Hopson.
Damn, we can't match none of that money. But with Hopson, his folks got money that's why he never tried to break the bank at Alcorn. He wants that stability more than anything.

Exactly!!!

The issue is whether folks want to admit it or not a coach will get fired whether it is by being forced to retire or flat out fired (not renewing a contract is being fired in a good way). If he has a chance to make the money as an assistant in a SEC program I would say go for it. If there is money to be made make it.

Also, Hopson's white friends are looking out for him. Please believe when he accepted the job at Alcorn he was making preparations to leave that same day. These plans were in the making when he came to Alcorn. Don't be fooled.

Hopson did a damn good job at Alcorn and there is not way that Alcorn can match what the SEC or CUSA will pay.
 
This power chess move by State --err Hopson, may just work out too. USM has already missed out on their initially preferred candidate in Chip Lindsey. The pressure is on them to make a quality hire quickly given the start of the signing period. Hopson already has a small, strong vocal contingent in the alumni chapter screaming for his selection.
 
Now, he has a public offer from in-state rival, MS State --whom USM hates--which should make it extremely hard for USM to outright ignore. Make the wrong decision, and anger the alumni base, and it back to the drawing board at USM for the next 3 years. Hire Hopson, and you basically start where you left off from the previous coaching regime.
