Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degrees?

But African Americans in most cases are expected to have a degree and perfect credit to get loans, etc.

I guess but I look at some of my white friends that haven't touched a college campus that seem to have a nice big houses, nice cars etc but the people that have degrees that are black are struggling. I guess they have to move somewhere to succeed.

things like generational wealth, ask yourself do your parents have a million dollar life insurance policy that you are the beneficiary?
500k? how about 250k?
How many of our people have that?
you can get a 500k policy for less than what some people pay for monthly cell phone service.
But I don't think we don't do it for the most part

Teamwork how many of us when we land a great job, grab someone else and put them in our company, as
opposed to just letting them know how well WE are doing?

do we help each other or do we rather enjoy competing with each other, trying to out do each other?

I hear thug dudes all the time screaming "nucca I'll kill you!!! on er'thang!!" but soon as the white folks
come around they going in the house acting all docile.

To get back on topic and answer your question, racism and white privilege. Redlining, institutional racism, unjust justice system, and access to credit are just a few things to come to mind. These are not figments of imagination and are real. You can be the most competent potential employee but in the final analysis your fate lies many times in a subjective white person's hands and he will choose the person that looks like him. I know some people believe we are in a "post racial era" since Obama was elected but look closely and see how he is treated. I tell people all of the time, if you want to see what many whites think about AA, look at Fox News from 8-10 during the week. These are the same type of folks that are in decision making positions many times. These voting suppression laws and gerrymandered districts are designed to keep them in power and legislate oppressing you. Think brother, think......

Bottom line is white peo0ple hire white people over any other race, and when it comes to hiring other races, blacks are on the bottom of that list. If you honestly look at the work place you see white males given chance after chance. They can mess up, be moved for a minute and right back in the same position in less then a few years. When blacks get on the hit list you are harassed until you quit or laid off.

I saw it first hand when I was a member of an Employee's Credit Union Board in Virginia. Whites on the board had hand picked the manager so that they could circumvent the loan process by giving themselves, family, and friends large loan amounts ($50k or more) with very low interest rates (2% or less), while poor Black members would go through the loan process with much smaller loan amounts ($8k or less) and higher interest rates (15% or more). Whites on the board had figured out how many times they could circumvent the process in a period before the federal government would investigate them based on their independent audit report.

Unfortunately that's how it goes.

That's probably what is going on with the people in my hometown and even here in Maryland also.

For one thing, by not touching a college campus means no school loans. They have started factoring in your school loans in your credit rating before you get out of school now. By the time you graduate, you are already in $40,000 worth of debt before you get your first job. Your debt-to-income ratio will stop you from getting any kind of conventional loan until that school loan is paid down. But your high school degreed counterpart can pretty much get whatever loan he wants with a job frying French fries at McDonald’s.

I'm sure if this is happening in a small city in Central Virginia, I'm sure it is happening in other places. If White folks are in full control of the economy in a particular area, I'm sure they are taking full advantage of those things that they can get away with that would benefit them economically.

Good information, I never thought about it that way. That makes since but what about the black with no degrees?

Finally something other than they holding us down. makes sense to me

but also check this out, how many of us have inherited good credit from our parents????

Meaning, did you know that if you had a credit card for years and years and paid it on time etc etc
you can list your kid as an authorized user, and they instantly get your good credit rating just like
if they've had the card all those years.

yeah the system is racists but we don't do ourselves any favors either

You are correct, but like I previously stated, I've personally witness folks getting 3 to 4 different loans with very low interest rates and their credit to debt ratio would never change, although they have other outstanding loans with more accumulated debt. The manager at the Credit Union would personally approve their loans by circumventing the process, which would be the only discrepancy reported on the Credit Union's audit report, basically granting approval for those few loans without thoroughly processing the loan application. If you were a manager of a Credit Union and the person(s) that is responsible for your job required a small favor, I'm sure you would do it as long as it doesn't get you into any serious trouble.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

This is both funny and sad ....

It's sad to see a group of grown men have absolutely no clue what it takes to have the "success" they see middle class white people having and resort to simplistic answers like "white folks are racist" and "they can get loans".

Brothers, we have to do better. Somebody needs to break down - step by step - what it takes to create positive financial results and what things lead to negative financial results.

Knowledge and behavior. That's what separates white people ... and Asians ... and Nigerians ... and everybody else who "succeeds" from African Americans. This is not to deny the existence and effects of racism in this country. I just wish some of you all had some practical answers that could help Black people move forward financially rather than propping yourselves on that age-old excuse of racism.

You can't start to evaluate the lack of black mobility or progress (or even suppression) in many areas of our society without race being a significant or dominate factor.

Re: Why is it easy for Caucasians in small towns and cities to succeed without degree

White people help white people. Asians help Asians. Mexicans support Mexicans. Blacks on the other hand would rather support white people and insult blacks who call them out for it. You are correct, the mind set goes both ways. Slave master and the slave. House and the field.

Kendrick, your biggest weakness is you don't realize how powerful you really are. The Black men on this board - Black men throughout this country - by and large don't realize how powerful they really are. Y'all are some bad ass dudes. You just don't know it because you're consumed with this idea that racism prevents your success.

Racism is a mosquito on an elephant's ass. Yes, it will bite you. Suck your blood from time to time. Painful. Irritating. All of that. But, mosquitoes don't stop elephants from doing what they have to do.

Racism is a hindrance, but it can be overcome. It may require us to work harder and longer. May require us to save more. May require us to have less debt. May require us to invest more - in ourselves, our families and each other. May require us to take that calculated risk of entrepreneurship rather than settling for the "security" of a steady paycheck. May require us to study and learn things that we don't know. May require us to apply that knowledge. May require us to pass that knowledge on to others. However, I have no doubt that racism can be overcome.

Some people will always be ignorant and bigoted. That's a given in life. Yet, I don't believe God is happy with those of us who accept that and allow it to hinder and diminish our lives. I believe we are expected to fight back and achieve IN SPITE OF any obstacles we may face.

That's not a bad thing. That's actually an honor. It's like working out. Ever notice how the guy who lifts the most weight is ... stronger ... than everybody else? Maybe we are called to be stronger. Maybe that's our destiny. Our place in this world. To be stronger. To overcome more. Because we ARE stronger.

We need to get rid of that victim mindset. Then start to train, act like and BE the warriors we really are.

You know?

Also, we can't compare African Americans financial situation to people from other countries, since more than likely the country that they came from has an economic investment in their success in United States. It helps when a country can negotiate some type of work visa for a lot of its citizen in United States as a means of some type of trade agreement. African Americans do not control enough natural resources to require some type of even playing field. Therefore race will always play a major role with African Americans concerning the world's economy. As recently as WWII, institutionalize racism tried it's best to discontinue Black men from being fighter pilots. The industry that probably benefitted the most from WWII is the airline industry.

Here's another vantage point...

In rural, primarily agricultural, farming areas, whites get ahead (also) by simply holding decision-making positions. And they use these positions to 'slow' the access to credit and other things, instead of outright denying you. This is how they skirt the 'discrimination' element..

Here's an example. A black farmer and a white farmer both apply for FSA (Farm Service Administration) loans. Both farms are comparable and the requested loan amounts are also. Both farmers submit their paperwork ontime. Most FSA offices are located in the County Seat and are staffed by locals (usually whites). The black farmer has a mistake on his loan application. So does the white farmer. If the white farmer's mistake is merely clerical (like spelling), the local FSA clerk will make the correction and send the loan application to Washington DC. But if the black farmer mas the SAME MISTAKE, the clerk won't make the correction. They'll deny the application and contact the farmer and have him submit the application again. This could take a few weeks. By this time, the white farmer's loan has been processed and he's gotten his money (usually) before March 1st, so he can prepare his land to plant his crops. But by the time the black farmer resubmits his loan, and it gets reviewed (at the local FSA) and then sent to Washington DC, he doesn't get his money until June 1st, several months TOO LATE to properly get his land prepared for planting. What winds-up happening is, in order to get his money ON TIME, the black farmer goes to the local bank and borrows the money (he applied for from FSA). The local bank grants him the loan, because they have proof of the pending FSA loan. So, the black farmer gets his land ready and plants his crops. June 1st comes and he gets his FSA money. Guess where it goes? To the bank to pay off the short-term loan he got (waiting on the FSA). And since the bank usually won't loan more money than he applied for (from the FSA), the farmer still owes the bank the INTEREST (or combo of principal and interest) remaining on the loan. So this ends up costing the black farmer more money just to be able to farm..

And if you have this happen for 3 or 4 years in a row, the black farmers goes out of business because his bank loans outpace whatever he would've made from farming..

This is real. It happens all the time. I know. I know farmers that this happened to... The subtleness of not processing a loan app on time, causes other problems. And then they snowball, and force the farmer to sell his farm in order to pay the loan from the local bank.

Sad..
