But African Americans in most cases are expected to have a degree and perfect credit to get loans, etc.
I guess but I look at some of my white friends that haven't touched a college campus that seem to have nice big houses, nice cars etc but the people that have degrees that are black are struggling. I guess they have to move somewhere to succeed.

To get back on topic and answer your question, racism and white privilege. Redlining, institutional racism, unjust justice system, and access to credit are just a few things to come to mind. These are not figments of imagination and are real. You can be the most competent potential employee but in the final analysis your fate lies many times in a subjective white person's hands and he will choose the person that looks like him. I know some people believe we are in a "post racial era" since Obama was elected but look closely and see how he is treated. I tell people all of the time, if you want to see what many whites think about AA, look at Fox News from 8-10 during the week. These are the same type of folks that are in decision making positions many times. These voting suppression laws and gerrymandered districts are designed to keep them in power and legislate oppressing you. Think brother, think......

Bottom line is white peo0ple hire white people over any other race, and when it comes to hiring other races, blacks are on the bottom of that list. If you honestly look at the work place you see white males given chance after chance. They can mess up, be moved for a minute and right back in the same position in less then a few years. When blacks get on the hit list you are harassed until you quit or laid off.
I saw it first hand when I was a member of an Employee's Credit Union Board in Virginia. Whites on the board had hand picked the manager so that they could circumvent the loan process by giving themselves, family, and friends large loan amounts ($50k or more) with very low interest rates (2% or less), while poor Black members would go through the loan process with much smaller loan amounts ($8k or less) and higher interest rates (15% or more). Whites on the board had figured out how many times they could circumvent the process in a period before the federal government would investigate them based on their independent audited report.[/QUOTE]
That's probably what is going on with the people in my hometown and even here in Maryland also.

For one thing, by not touching a college campus means no school loans. They have started factoring in your school loans in your credit rating before you get out of school now. By the time you graduate, you are already in $40,000 worth of debt before you get your first job. Your debt-to-income ratio will stop you from getting any kind of conventional loan until that school loan is paid down. But your high school degreed counterpart can pretty much get whatever loan he wants with a job frying French fries at McDonald’s.

This is both funny and sad ....
It's sad to see a group of grown men have absolutely no clue what it takes to have the "success" they see middle class white people having and resort to simplistic answers like "white folks are racist" and "they can get loans". Brothers, we have to do better. Somebody needs to break down - step by step - what it takes to create positive financial results and what things lead to negative financial results.
Knowledge and behavior. That's what separates white people ... and Asians ... and Nigerians ... and everybody else who "succeeds" from African Americans. This is not to deny the existence and effects of racism in this country. I just wish some of you all had some practical answers that could help Black people move forward financially rather than propping yourselves on that age-old excuse of racism.

You can't start to evaluate the lack of black mobility or progress (or even suppression) in many areas of our society without race being a significant or dominate factor.

Kendrick, your biggest weakness is you don't realize how powerful you really are. The Black men on this board - Black men throughout this country - by and large don't realize how powerful they really are. Y'all are some bad ass dudes. You just don't know it because you're consumed with this idea that racism prevents your success.
Racism is a mosquito on an elephant's ass. Yes, it will bite you. Suck your blood from time to time. Painful. Irritating. All of that. But, mosquitoes don't stop elephants from doing what they have to do.
Racism is a hindrance, but it can be overcome. It may require us to work harder and longer. May require us to save more. May require us to have less debt. May require us to invest more - in ourselves, our families and each other. May require us to take that calculated risk of entrepreneurship rather than settling for the "security" of a steady paycheck. May require us to study and learn things that we don't know. May require us to apply that knowledge. May require us to pass that knowledge on to others. However, I have no doubt that racism can be overcome.
Some people will always be ignorant and bigoted. That's a given in life. Yet, I don't believe God is happy with those of us who accept that and allow it to hinder and diminish our lives. I believe we are expected to fight back and achieve IN SPITE OF any obstacles we may face.
That's not a bad thing. That's actually an honor. It's like working out. Ever notice how the guy who lifts the most weight is ... stronger ... than everybody else? Maybe we are called to be stronger. Maybe that's our destiny. Our place in this world. To be stronger. To overcome more. Because we ARE stronger.
We need to get rid of that victim mindset. Then start to train, act like and BE the warriors we really are.
You know?
