2014 Jackson State Home Football Ticket Prices

Somehow I see this rise in ticket prices would make it hard for students to get non-student friends to attend the games.

This really makes it hard to accomplish the required attendance for the dome.

Why 50,000 seats for football?

The goals of this project were to “think big” and do something that changes the dynamics of JSU, the City of Jackson and the State of Mississippi. The dome will be that game changer.

The difference in cost to build 35,000 versus 50,000 seats is about $12 to 14 million. It is a better investment to build big now rather than to incur additional costs for future expansions. JSU’s enrollment plan calls for 15,000 students in a few years. As the student population grows, so will game attendance. If each student brought a friend to a football game, we could have 25,000 to 30,000 people in attendance. In the future, additional activities such as professional football team exhibitions, NBA exhibitions and/or games, Battle of the Bands events and more will need the large seating capacity.

Depending on anyone but diehard fans is dumb to me...I will say this: Since I get in free, if my friend wanted to go to a game but ticket prices were a little more than they want to pay, I would throw them $5 to $10 just because Im a good friend and I love my school. Counting on the majority of the fans that attend the SHC is stupid, cuz where are all of those fans when we have a home game?! AT HOME. People who want to get their monies worth and be entertained will pay these prices...fickle or diehard.

Man 300 for 28 game tickets in that family pack is insane.

I think we all agree with you on that. It's the single game prices. Again, I bring people to games with me. So for me to ask someone to come to a game with me that's $35-$40 is not very easy. Most people EXPECT to pay $20 for HBCU ball. I pay $70 and $80 a ticket for a GaTech game but that is what I EXPECT to pay. It's just like I can't afford an EAGLES tickets but a Philadelphia Soul ticket is $28. You have to know your audience and your pool of supporters.

They also have to get the word out about this deal. There is no real marketing plan to sell season tickets. I hear they are working on one but they need to let people SEE how much of a deal they get. All most people will see is $150... and most people in Jackson only attend 3-4 games.. so telling them they are saving on 7 is not a great deal to some.

Raising ticket prices is a bad business decision. Based on current attendance, JSU has more than its share of excess capacity. It's as simple as supply and demand. When there is no demand, you don't raise prices. They should try lowering prices to increase demand (attendance) and try to get us back to how games were back in the 90's when we were breaking attendance records. This is bad business.

This is what most people agree with. Know your audience. Homecoming is one thing but when you are charging $50-$60 for any other game you run the risk of pricing yourself to an empty stadium...

The more you read, you will actually see that right now season tickets are not $150. Season tickets are $120 until May 9th. I know that because I care enought to READ.. lol

They need to make everything VERY clear.

Also, I send $$ to Jackson State EVERY month. I have not received anything in the mail regarding season tickets. A few years ago, when we were selling $50 tickets, people were just walking up to the window purchasing packets. The school did NOTHING to collect their information so that they could solicit future season ticket packages to them. There should have at least been a form for a person to list their name address and phone number when they bought season tickets.

You can afford an Eagles ticket TP. You make enough money. LOL. Stop being cheap. Just save that 70-80 dollars you spend on that Yech school and the plane ticket to go down to the ATL and buy you an Eagles ticket.

Very smart person!!!

At least somebody knows what the percent capacity below represents, which is why a certain school ranked 113 out of 124 FCS schools in that category in 2013.

We know what % capacity means. We also know what it does not mean. Keep trying tho.

Like your fellow tiger person stated, it's about supply and demand and right now your supply (stadium capacity) heavily outnumbers your demand (game attendance). Therefore, JSU’s administration should be lowering ticket prices instead of raising ticket prices. A person doesn't have to be a business major to understand that simple concept. Somehow I don't see the logic in JSU’s administration business decision of raising ticket prices.

That depends on what they see as well. If you look at the report they did for JSU suing GSU, they reported that we made more money vs Valley (22K fans) than vs UAPB (38K fans). The prices were higher for the Valley game.. so the attendance was lower but we made more money. Maybe the University feels that the amount is justified. As a fan, I would want more people in the stands but I hope that our administration used data from past years to make these decisions.

I'm sure there's a reason for their decision, but it definitely wasn't based on the supply and demand. And based on past years, I believe JSU highest percent capacity was just over 50%, which means that JSU's stadium averaged approximately 50% capacity for the season.

..and that's fine. I still fail to see the point. It's the attendance number and the money made that matter... not the % capacity. PV had a 90% capacity but they dont have the numbers JSU have. So I totally miss the point. We had $50 season tickets and we didn't fill Memorial. ..and we may have lost money.

We shall see in the upcoming season with JSU's new coach in his first season.

Nope it's not based on supply and demand. Not sure what it is, and I guess it's working favorably for us. I don't know the exact numbers, so I can't speculate on that. BUT, I would take lower ticket prices w/ more butts in the seats anyday. If you can consistently put 35K in the stands each home game, then you can charge more for advertising and get more revenue in sponsorships AND generate more fan interest. But what do I know. Not bashing my dear ol' college home, but the logic sickens me as a Business major! :emlaugh:
