Is there really anyway to save our young youth of today? It seems like every time you turn on the news, read the paper. Log on the internet. Ride down the street or just go out your door and all you see is our young folks killing, stealing in mobs, fighting, cussing, pants on the ground, making nasty videos and every thing under the sun. Do folks just not raise their kids any more?

Individual..................yes......some parent are going to be parents no matter what trend is out there.
As a whole...................Nope.

People kept telling them that "everything is ok.............do whatever you feel like" and now people just have to deal with it and let it run the course.

A case of occasional exiling may be what's necessary. I know I had to go through that a number of times to make sure I didn't become the idiots around me or be totally influenced by the idiot boxes and the stupidity that it promotes.

I got to see the world and improve my world view while getting a serious series of reality checks (better early than late) . BUT it was hella tough to me to adjust to every 2 year in the summer time. And it's expensive to do now with the jacked up economy.

Youths of today are actually committing less acts of crime and violence than a generation before, according to the CDC and FBI. And the reason for that decline can be attributed to programs and initiatives geared toward preventing that type of behavior with the aid of law enforcement, state and local governments, schools and non-profit organizations.

We just live in a society with access to 24-hour media, websites, blogs and social media sites that make it appear everything is out of control because those events can be captured instantaneously and spread among the masses for consumption.

Now, you can't prevent kids from being rebellious or committing crimes or being foolish. They've always will and will forever be rebellious and foolish. But we're an improving society to say the least

In my opinion lots of laws have to be passed first

if your kid doesn't regular attend school, no food stamps, section 8 etc etc

if you are between 18- 28 no job, not in school, do not possess any cert., degree etc etc, mandatory military service

It's society as a whole. We live in the don't beat them, let them be individuals, let them find themselves , its just a faise(sp) he will grow out of it...Add to it all the social media saturation and the over medication of our youth and look out. It's not as bad as the media potrays it but it's bad.. Some parents are still raising their kids... But overall society is just bad..

Kendrick you always seem to post stats, to the contrary of what most of our people, are seeing and living.
Unless your stats are from OUR community and not linked to Communities overall, they are useless in solving
OUR problems, and you always seem to do this with every topic
Your stats never apply to us

Now that MIGHT work. But then again, it may backfire given that some vets are going through some serious hell finding work (even if they have seriously transferable insights and experience).

Man if you ain't said a mouthful there.

I think your answer lies in your question CEE: Do folks just not raise their kids anymore?

The generation of parents is getting younger and younger, and the maturity and mindset of these young (parents), especially the mothers, is just disturbing. You have kids raising or trying to raise kids, and there's hardly any teaching of morals and values, no teaching of good and bad, right and wrong, and certainly no sense of etiquette and respect.

Yes, I do think we can still save our young people. I believe in the power of prayer and always will. Despite what you hear about them, there are many churches in the Black community that offer a variety of programs for our young people to get involved in. My church has community efforts for youth (this week is the Food Bank; last week was the Juvenile Detention Center). Corporations are still offering internships and programs that allow youth to utilize and enhance their skills. There are even programs that just offer a place for kids to go to keep off the streets and out of trouble. And I know it takes more than just prayer; we as adults have to show a genuine interest in our youth, especially our Black youth (particularly our males), and spend time teaching our youth today about values, about respect and self-respect, and we also have to stop being so readily to place blame on them. Young people today face so much mess today, and have to contend with a type of pressure that's on a whole different level!

It's amazing how so many folks are quick to pick up a crumpled, torn, dirty, raggedy dollar bill......but won't do the same for our young people in the same condition. If we do not responsibly teach our young people peace someone will gladly teach them violence.

I seriously think some of the young kids are lost. I do think that there is help for them. It starts with us being mentors, positive influences in their lives. These young kids are looking for people to guide them in the right direction, but some of US are too scared or unconcerned to make an impact on their lives.

I'm talking about when they get out. Also keep in mind, the military doesn't and won't accept just anybody (unless the laws are changed to make it so).

Nope. Actually, overall homicides in the U.S. have declined every year for the last 30 years.

http://colorlines.com/archives/2012/04/crime_myths.html

And this...

Overall, figures from a variety of institutions—including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Justice Statistics—show that among black youth, rates of robbery and serious property offenses are at their lowest rates in 40 years.

In California, state’s black youth show the lowest level of homicide arrest since statewide racial tabulations were first assembled in 1960. Nearly every type of offense—felony, misdemeanor, and status—is much rarer among black youth today than in past generations.

Oh, and more black youths are graduating high school and attending and graduating college than ever before, too.

I said laws would have to change, when they get out they'll be older, and learned some things, you won't save them all, but you will cut down on it some, and think about all the unwanted pregnancies, auto thiefs, rapes, murders etc etc

Ok dude keep telling yourself that lie. In 1989 I could go to a ATM in Huntsville at 2 a.m. without worrying about getting robbed or killed. Go to a ATM at 2 a.m. now and you better have a police officer with you holding a assault rifle.

True words. I talk to my all the time about babying our kids. I can be tough on them at times, but I want my kids to know that the world can be a tough place. I try to teach them the good and bad of the decisions they make in their lives. I know they are young but starting early will help them to understand the importance of choices.
