Hey SOG

If DuerSharp said tmrw...
In order to help SWAC competitiveness I'm recommending:
Cancelling the scg
Moving the BayouClassic/TDC up a week
Grabbing the SWACs automatic bid in the playoffs
Encouraging each team to schedule 2 games against OVC SOUTHLAND type conferences

What would you say about those changes?

Nothing would be said to Duer, because that means all the SWAC Presidents/Chancellors have agreed to do so and then TOLD Duer to go announce it. LOL. Duer is a puppet. He already said last year on an interview that was posted here that he does what the Presidents/Chancellors Council tell him. He readily admitted that.

I think the ADs are ready to do some of that. It is going to be interesting to see what happens to FCS as the higher tier FCS schools like ND State, App State, Montana etc will start getting invites to move up to the lower tier FBS conferences once they all get locked out of this Super FBS level that the Big BCS conference commissioners are going to. Something is going to have to give across the board. I look for totally reorganization from FBS to FCS in about 5 -7 years. A lot of FCS teams may need to go to D2.

And a lot of us need to go D2. That would solve a lot of problems. If you can't deal with APR you need to go D2. If you can't compete across the board in the SWAC you need to go D2. We have been duped into participating in this APR mess where we are turning good players and students away for foolish issues.

Hey Kenn. ...I know how DuerSharp can make the competitive issue go away immediately ...if DuerSharp announces that the SWAC will be D2 next year, how will you respond?

Yeah, he did say that, but I am not buying that either. I think that is just rhetoric to get off the subject of what he is really doing.

Make no mistake about it, the SCOP do vote on many of the issues that come up, but it is Duer's job to make the case on the pros and cons of anything that is done. If Duer really wants something, he is going to sell them on it. Especially if the presidents are convinced that whatever is done is going to make money for the conference; which in essence is REALLY the primary job of the commissioner.

Are we really to believe that the SWAC presidents told Duer to hire and fire all of the people who have come and gone over the past 4 years who worked with the conference? I don't think so.

I don't know about SOG, but I personally don't have a problem with any of the changes you've mentioned. As much as the Grambling and Southern folks like having the BC on Thanksgiving weekend, I don't think there is anything to suggest that it couldn't be profitable the week before. Yes, my position on this has changed over the past few years. As for the Bama State folks, that is an entirely different situation. I can't speak for them. Asking them to move the TDC might be more difficult for them than it is for the GSU/SU folks in moving the classic.

Duer can't make that call. That is up to each individual school to do.

I do think this is a part of the problem also. If you don't have stability at the league office, how can you expect to have stability and growth within the league? It's a revolving door over there.

Was one of your friends fired by Duer? This seems to be where your discussions end up going when speaking about Duer Sharp.

Most of the people who have been fired, I have never met.

As for Duer and his antics, I've discussed much more than just his firings. We can talk about rubber-stamped statements he has made when issuing band reprimands. We can talk about the lawsuit filled against him by a former staffer for breach of contract. We can talk about the altering of ballots that prevented deserving people from getting in the SWAC HOF.

I think I have focused on more than just his firings.

You already know the answer to this Kenn. But I will sit back and wait to see what is said.

I'll just sit here and wait.

Does that include J-State too.

This is too much like right. The other problem is that our alumni are so used to something even when it is failing right in front of their eyes that they still try and make light of why it is still the best alternative.

Move the Bayou Classic to the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. Folks don't have to take off work and can get back financially stable for Christmas.

It's not the schools' fault that that people have trouble shaking back financially between Bayou Classic and Christmas. Hell, its not unusual to see people do their Christmas shopping in New Orleans anyway.

So what if the Bayou Classic was moved to Labor Day Weekend? Will folks say they're broke from back-to-school shopping and can't go? If folks are so worried about spending money, make it a home-and-home again and help the local economies.

Besides, move the Bayou Classic to Labor Day Weekend (opening weekend of college football), it will get drowned by all the other competition on TV. IF you're going to move it, move it up one week to the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, then it will be in line with all other major rivalry games that are played near Thanksgiving.

Yall are typical folks that just want to sit here and complain about something, you want change as long as it doesnt affect you. You want somebody to improve your school, but you dont want to make any sacrifices. "Just give us a better conference Mr Commissioner and help us out." We should either go D2 immediately or move the BC up a week and get an automatic bid to the playoffs.

The problem with BCF football competing with other FCS conferences is there are too many HBCUs on the FCS level(21). Thats too damn many. The good talent, good coaches, money, and fans are spread too thin. Thats the problem. I dont know why you guys cant see this. How many big Catholic schools are playing football? One...Notre Dame (Boston College doesnt count). All of the money and effort for sports mostly goes to Notre Dame. If there were 40 Catholic schools splitting money and talent, then Notre Dame would suck.

There should be 3 HBCU schools on the division 1 level....JacksonState TennSt FAMU. At least one of those schools could be FBS. But since we are so busy trying to split an already scarce pie, none of us can really get ahead. Weve been train since we stepped off the boat to be against each other and not push in the same direction, and thats what we are doing right now. We are never going to win a damn thing as long as there are so many of us on the FCS level. All we need to do is look at how well Winston-Salem is doing.

To be honest, we need to get together (fat chance) and form our own division, make our own championships, make our own trnys. I know none of that will ever happen because we will never go against YT but you cant keep doing the same bull over and over expecting a different result. The result will continue to be 55-0 at the halftime against an FBS school.

This I can agree with GR. I actually would be on board with that. And I like TPs old idea (but we let the ship sail when we had momentum) of a group of HBCUs moving up together in their own conference. I know you always throw FAMU in the mix. But I think finances over there may be just as bad as any of ours at this point.

I'm going to take a page out of your book and call BULLSHIT on everything you just said.

My question to you was simple. You made it complicated. All you had to say was "Yes" or "No". Because you know deeeeeeeeep down inside that JSU is not much different than any other HBCU from an athletic stand point, you want to somehow make this about what other HBCUs are/are not doing instead of starting with your own HOME TEAM.

Bottom line, Jackson State is in the SWAC because, (1) its wants to be, (2) you can't AFFORD to go anywhere else and (3) DON'T NO OTHER CONFERENCE WANT YOU. Stop trying to hold other schools to a standard that your own alma mater can't reach.

Jackson State is listed as a LRI (Limited-Resources Institution) by the NCAA. Keywords "Limited-Resources".

You start to talk that shit so much you begin to believe it. So stop it. You ain't fooling nobody.

If the SWAC needs to go D2, then that sure as hell includes Jackson State.

20 years from now we will be talking about the same shit..... I personally feel that Duer Sharpe can make a change but flat out is too fugging lazy to put in the travel hours and lobbying hours to do so. Also, with change comes more accountability and quite frankly Sharpe does not want the extra work.

But Kenn, their Athletic Department revenue and expense is approximately $5.9 million and they've really been dreaming of having this $200 million dollar domed stadium with a 50k seat capacity for their fan base that average approximately 14k attendance per game.

So the convo is about duer but now other limited resource schools are chiming in on what kenn said...ok. Kenn slick got a lil upset its ok
