The fact of the matter is this, Lebron still has no ring....
Fans can only be upset at themselves for creating what they now loathe.
Some people hate LeBron because he feels like the title should be given to him and instead of him taking it. Walks like Michael Jordan, there was no NBA until he arrived. Calls himself the king and then blames everyone but himself when things don't go the way he wants them to go. I tell everyone, once he develops a killer instinct, he will reach well beyond Jordan and the rest.
This becomes a circular argument. Why did James have the best team in the league? Because LeBron James was on it. He made those teams look way better than they actually were, the fact that they went from having, literally, the best record in the league to the worst record in the league, should be proof enough that he had a lot of crap around him. Did he fold like a child against the Celtics two years ago? Yeah he did, but how can anyone argue he had the better team? Jesus, just look at the rosters. The Celtics had four of the top 30 players in the NBA. Arguing that having the "best regular season record makes you the best team" is a little misleading, frankly. When the Lakers went to four NBA Finals in five years under Phil Jackson, and the were the No. 1 seed just one time during that span.
Jordan, by the way, was 1-9 in his first 10 playoff games until Krause drafted/stole Pippen and Grant.
My point is not that LeBron will be Jordan someday. He won't. And I'm not even really comparing the two. But I'm saying Jordan spoiled our expectations for what James should be doing. Is he great in the clutch? Well, if you ignore what the stats say and point to specific high profile failures, then yeah, he's not great. But you know what? Magic Johnson wasn't great in the clutch either early in his career, which is why he got the nickname Tragic Johnson. Players reputations evolve. No one thinks of Magic as a choker now. All they think of him is one of the greatest to ever play the game.
And all anyone cry about during those Detroit series Jordan kept losing was "WHEN IS SOMEONE ELSE GOING TO STEP UP SO THAT JORDAN DOESN'T HAVE TO DO IT ALL?" I can dig up a bunch of Doug Collins quotes out from 1988 if you like, when the Pistons swarmed Jordan, he scored 10 points fewer than his regular season average, and they got whipped. It was just crying about how guys were afraid to shoot.
Here is one from that series in 1988.
"The question of whether Michael could make the rest of the guys better was answered tonight," Collins said after the Bulls lost 105-98 to end their season. "Did you see the shots he was giving to other people? That is going to take some of the load off him next year. He can't continue to score 35 points a game."
I feel like no one was making those same points during James' years in Cleveland. It was just "Why is he coming up small? Why can't he carry them to a title?" (Meanwhile, you look at his stats, and he averaged almost 40 points a game in that Eastern Conference Finals series against Orlando in 2009, and people were still claiming he wasn't doing enough to win. Um ... what?)
If Cleveland had drafted a Scottie Pippen and a Horace Grant to play with James, instead of trying to give him a geriatric band-aid with guys like a 37-year-old Shaq, he'd probably have won two rings by now. At least. Despite whatever "clutch-i-ness" issues he might have.
I mean, seriously think about this for a moment. In 2009 and 2010, when Cleveland had the No. 1 seed and lost to "an inferior team" in the playoffs, which one of these dudes would have started for ANY of those Bulls teams that Jordan won titles with? Maybe Jamison or Shaq comes off the bench to spell Cartwright in the post? Maybe?
Delonte West
Zydrunas Ilgauskus Not in the league
Wally Szczerbiek Not in the league
Joe Smith Not in the league
Anthony Parker
Anderson Varejo
Sasha Pavlovic (Buried on the C's bench)
Mo Williams (Backup PG on the Clippers)
Daniel Gibson (Doesn't even start for the bad Cavs)
Antwan Jamison (who was playing for his fifth team, and averaged 15.8 a game in 2010)
Shaquille O'Neal (who was in his 17th year, 37 years old, and average 12 points and 6 rebounds that season). Not in the league
Don't even look at the 2007 Cavs roster that went to the Finals unless you like S&M.
Ive answered a few of your questions, when will you answer mine? How many rings does Lebron James have??
LEBRONETTES
Hey Kendrick ...you need to go and get you some pussy! :emlaugh:
I too have family in Cleveland and they feel the same way of the owner, but that doesn't mean it's right. The dude was a free agent and decided to leave with a bang. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?Well...I have relatives and frats in that live in Akron and Cleveland..they felt that the owner said what the fans were thinking and they don't feel the owner was racist. But hey Lebron is happy,I don't know what his conscience is,none of us really know. He is the only one that knows whether he can live with himself or not for his decision.
Yep..this is just another reason why pro athletes are losing respect among fans.
