SWAC Baseball

This sport has made the most strides than any other SWAC sport in competing on the D1 level. SU being ranked, UAPB beating Wichita State, SU a #3 seed, TSU beating Rice, PV scaring Baylor, AAMU defeating OK State. What other sport have we come close to defeating any of these teams in???

Man, I hate I'm going to miss the MLB Invitational.

A revolution took place in the SWAC in 2011 as woebegone Alcorn State finally won its first SWAC title, signaling the rise of the East Division is finally complete. So things are wide open now. Who’s your money on? Whoever it is, that next crown ceremony will certainly be deserved.

2011 in a Paragraph:

A little bit of good and a little bit of bad, to be honest. First off, Barret Rey led Alcorn State to its first-ever SWAC title. The Braves won both the tourney and regular season title (with a stellar 19-4 mark), Southern got the most wins (29) and the West division had the best title chase. But in the big picture, none of the SWAC teams earned 30+ wins, with only three teams (Jackson State, Southern and Prairie View) ended 2011 with winning marks. But the SWAC has made great strides in the hiring department, pulling in some positive young coaches that should pay dividends in the near future.

QB Frank Rivers is a 6'5" 220lb pitcher!
Musa Muhammed is 6"4" 220 left handed pitcher. He is a frosh receiver on the football team. Word is the coach wants him to concentrate on football.

This young took Jones High School to the playoff in baseball. Musa had a couple of no hitters and lost a 2 hitter in the playoff because of errors.

Southern’s Marrero steps into new role

When he patrolled third base, Wilmy Marrero had a close-up look at his pitchers as they labored through a long inning. He could hear the loud, piercing pop of the catcher’s mitt.

And whenever a right-handed hitter pulled a hard line drive, Marrero had to be ready. After all, they call it the hot corner for a reason.

But when Marrero moved to center field, with hundreds of square feet to cover and a long distance from the plate, Marrero actually felt closer to the action.

“I felt like I was more in the game,â€￾ said Marrero, now a senior at Southern. “Of course, there’s more ground to cover. But I always thought I was able to do a good job.â€￾

This time around, the Jaguars may need him to do even better.

Friday morning in Houston, Southern begins its 28th season under coach Roger Cador, opening the MLB Urban Invitational against Prairie View — and thanks to the nasty weather, the team has barely had the chance to work simple things like hitting the cutoff man.

I actually meant to mention him also... a left handed pitcher (with his size) can make some money. I understand that Doug is allowing him to pitch for the baseball team and work it out (football practice) during the Spring. On a side note, he's also allowing Dawrence Roberts to run track this Spring.

PVDogTeam,

Naw we don't fool around with that baseball stuff anymore
