I'm not a playoff hater .... let me state that again. I am not a playoff hater.
I am, however, very curious at the ones HERE who pledge their all to it.
83, since you seem to be the ring leader, I will address you.
For Jackson State to get to the playoffs, what would need to happen?
(a) Good record (Check)
(b) Good out of Conference schedule (Concordia, Tenn State) X
(c) Good FCS Playoff history X
(d) Willingness to Bid (Y'all have hosted once or twice, but today, that would be) X
If the SWAC did away with the SCG today, YOU STILL wouldn't have gone based on JSU's doing. I'm not trying to put down JSU. Please hear that.
However, for the entire MEAC and those here who are promoting it, show ME where goign to the playoffs has improved your program with THAT being the reason and show me a way you THINK it would improve your program.
My contention is that you would gain MORE from playing those caliber teams in the regular season instead of FAMU (SOuthern), Tenn State (Jackson State) and the rest.
Until you force your fan base to believe in your atheltic program enough to not be halted by state cuts, stupidity in administration, and just overall non-trust (I.E. giving them a reason to want to be a part of something greater), all this playoff talk can cease.
Marty Miller, Norfolk State AD, had a golden opportunity with a bigger stadium than his counterpart down the road .... 83 and other playoff proponents .... Why did this man not BID on a home game with an 11,000 seat advantage over ODU? If I thought the playoffs would bring more exposure to Southern than the Bayou Classic, I'd leave it in a second, but how many of you can tell me without looking it up who is playing in the title game and where it is this year?
The NCAA has money hands over fist, but loses on the FCS Playoffs?
The Big Six Took their ability to survive in their own hands and CREATED a championship .... They basically only compete with each other .... sound familiar?
