Rick Perry says Texas A&M is talking about SEC move

If I am the SEC and they get A&M then I go after Clemson who to me is more of a SEC type school than South Carolina is.
how so?

putting Georgia tech in the SEC would be a recruit war between Georgia and Georgia Tech for recruits in the state Georgia.
No it wouldn't. UGA would still slaughter tech in recruiting the state.

cue TP to play the tech academic card here. :scared::scared:

If TCU had waited a little while longer before jumping up to go to the Big East, they could have been apart of this mix I believe. If TAMU goes to the SEC, they'd be a shoe if for the Big 12.

Yeah I agree. Don't know why they ran off to the Big East so fast before seeing how all this other stuff would shake out. It is going to be real interesting to see. Also I heard the Pac 12 commish say they aint done yet. Do you think if the Big 12 implodes that they reach out to Texas again? I can see them and Texas Tech going. Texas Tech is already damn near in New Mexico anyway. LOL.

I agree with Devil's Gun. They need to stay where they are at. In the SEC, aTm will be nothing more than an also-ran for the foreseeable future. Their chances of winning anything of significance decreases drastically in the SEC. In football and basketball.

I'm also concerned about the SEC becoming too big and unwieldy. I'm thinking going to 14 teams will water the league down. There will be only a handful of teams with a legitimate chance to win championships year-in and year-out. It's that way now, but with more teams I just feel the league will be diluted. A few elite teams and a bunch of mediocre teams.

Clemson football fan base is like the SEC. They are rabid up there. They are right up 85 across the Ga border and has always recruited in traditional SEC land. Talk to most SEC folks and they have never understood Clemson being in the ACC and some SEC folks wanted them more so than S. Carolina when they came. I remember the whole hoopla about it. Hell Clemson has won a NC in football albeit it was the late 70s or early 80s when it happened. LOL. But their atmosphere at football games is SEC like. More so than most of the ACC schools except for Va Tech and Florida State. In my opinion it would be a good fit and rev up the SC vs Clemson rivalry even more. Their basketball and baseball programs would not be bad for the SEC either. Just a natural fit. Now UGA may not like it because them being in the SEC would definitely allow Clemson to really try to recruit Ga even harder than they do and they can tell those kids it aint far for their folks to come see them. Especially the ATL area kids.

There are only a handful of teams that can win the SEC regularly now. So what is the difference. Yall are really undervaluing the Aggies. It is a reason the SEC has reached out to them before. It makes sense. And how would it water the league down. You must believe that those schools can come in and out recruit some of the other schools if you think it would water the league down. That's the only way it would do so. I guess folks forgot about those old Aggie teams during Slocum's era. Don't let the last decade fool you. Texas was in the same boat in the 90s before Mack Brown showed up. A&M was whooping that arse and OU was thumping them regularly. Even Mack had trouble beating OU early on.

BTW, if I am not mistaken didn't the Aggies win the NC in women's basketball? So how they can bring the SEC down is beyond me. Their baseball team is always in contention to go to the CWS.

JR,
I know all about Clemson and remember when they won the title. :vomit: Growing up as a fan of UGA, I used to hate Clemson. I remember the UGA/Clemson rivalry as being big (they're less than an hour away from each other) but I don't think Clemson is any more attractive than South Carolina. USC is the flagship. As for Atlanta, as close as Clemson is, it doesn't seem to have a big presence here at all. Auburn is a lil further, but Auburn is HUGE in Atlanta.

First off its about money.... The Big 12 revenue split is laughable... A&M and oklahoma are just going along till a better chance jumps up.. That chance is the SEC.... The SEC Television revenue split is $23 Million plus per team... It aint an AD or school president that wouldn't love to start the year with $25 - $30 Million in the back pocket....

As far as competing.. Someone said it before, its all in the hire... Franchione was a horrible hire from day one.. He tried to operate at A&M like he was at New Mexico or TCU.. The Right coach and Aggie Football can be in the Top 5 in the SEC.... The mens basketball program would be in the Top 5 in the SEC... Womens basketball would be neck and neck with Tennessee...
Track and Field... Nuff said... Baseball is top of the line.... Soccer is Top 15... Facilities and fan base match anything in the SEC....

That's why I think it would be good. Clemson is in the ACC. Those ATL kids want to be in the SEC or else they would go to Yech. LOL. Clemson just seems like a logical choice with the closeness and the fact that they also a good Academic School...(that's for TP and GSUPE) but I believe they would do better overall than Ga Tech. I know S. Carolina is the flagship school and all. But Clemson had more success than them athletically prior to them coming to the SEC and that's why some SEC folks wanted them instead. S. Carolina was pretty weak sports wise before they got to the SEC. They have done much better being a member. So I think Clemson would surpass them football and basketball wise if they were in the SEC. The ACC is just a basketball conference and I can't blame the kids in the ATL for going down the other end of 85 to Auburn instead. LOL.

The revenue share for A&M won't be much different. A&M is set to receive over $20M in the Big 12, and the total revenue share for the SEC was about $19M last year.

I agree and I hate the Aggies. LOL. But I know they have the infrastructure in all sports to not be a bottom feeder. They have way more than those two schools in my home state who have been also rans in the SEC for a long time. Only to pop up here and there every so often with a decent team.

The SEC commish was saying recently he expects their revenue sharing to increase. So it may jump up here soon. Of course they are not about to sit back and let the Pac 10 now the Pac 12 and the Big 10 plus 2 out do them on deals and such. That new Pac 10 commish is off the chain. I look for the SEC to make their move sooner than later.

They don't have a say in whats going on in the BIG 12 though.
As for the revenue share, they got that as a bribe to stay in the BIG 12. For years, Oklahoma and Texas was getting close to $10 million more than any school in the BIG 12 when the year end revenue split was done. Texas and Oklahoma was getting over $22 million apeice and the rest of the teams were getting between $12 million and $15 million. Nebraska was only getting $14 million.

Now throw in the fact that TEXAS is the only school allowed to have another big money revenue stream like their TEXAS TV Network and none of the other schools can't, Texas A@M would come out way ahead in the SEC over what they getting in the Big 12.

Right... but now they have a deal where UT, OU and A&M are guaranteed $20M+. I'm just saying the revenue share for A&M NOW is about the same as it will be in the SEC.

Also, UT is the only school in the Big 12 with the demand for their own network.

But u missed what jstate83 was saying.. That was a quick sweetening of the pot to get them to stay... When the Longhorn Network kicks in.... Its back to the BS... The SEC Revenue is going to grow and it will be an even split.. That is better for the longterm health of the conference... Texas doesnt give a damn about the rest of the Big 12... A&M and Oklahoma knows it...

No, the Longhorn network will just be extra money for UT. Won't affect the Big 12 pot because the conference TV deal gets precedence on programming

That is what we are saying.
TEXAS is still leading the rest of the schools around by the nose and the conference is letting them do it. TEXAS is reaping 100% of the profits from that network because ESPN is putting in all the cash-($300 million), resources, and employees to run it.

They basically got a "free" tv station and fully funded private revenue stream that nobody else in the conference can have. Why in the world would any school with 1/2 ounce of respect stay in a situation like that. :noidea:

The SEC's number is going to go way up in the next round of TV negotiations and the Big 12 is living on borrowed time.

They may be able to increase their recruiting base. Their issue has been coaching and then Mack Brown out recruiting them in Texas. Moving to the SEC would get them back into La, Ms and other SEC areas. Those kids know they would still be in the SEC to play against the other schools. Plus A&M has big money just have not used it right in their hiring practices. When Jackie Sherrill and then Slocum coached them.......they did alright. Both recruited Texas and outside of Texas. Slocum being a McNeese grad was able to get some La boys down there. LOL. Sherrill.......well we know how he recruited. LOL. Get A&M to the SEC and hire the right coaching staff and they can win. They would be no worse than what Mark Richt is doing at Ga. I would say they would be better than them consistently if they move. That head coaching job would be more attractive than it is now being in UT's shadow.

Sorry, but no one is coming in and raiding LSU. A few may choose to go elsewhere, but LSU has Louisiana on lock. Texas A&M can forget about the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida as well. Florida, Florida State, and Miami get the bulk of the top talent from that state, then the other schools pick the remains. If you get Florida, Florida State, and Miami all at the top of their game, you might not see very many people choosing to leave the state.

No one said raid.......but kids will take a look more so if they know they can still play in the SEC. So that Florida kid who wants to get the fugg away from home like Peterson did and now his little brother to LSU as well, might consider A&M if the right coach is there. Kids aint loyal to those schools like you might think. You let the right coach get that Aggie job and has ties to Florida or Georgia. He will get some kids. He don't have to lock up the whole state. Sometimes just getting that one or two players make a difference. Look at Percy Harvin. He left Va to come to Florida. Wasn't like the Gators wanted to take 10 kids from Va. But just getting that one was crucial. Same could said with them getting Chris Leak from Charlotte. Being in the SEC will help Texas A&M to have access to kids in the SEC areas. All they have to do is hire the right guys with those connections. That's who get the kids anyway. Florida State did the same thing when they signed up to play LSU way back in the day. Bobby Bowden was called a fool for coming to BR all those times. But he was planting the seed which lead to him getting kids from the Ms Gulf coast and La later on. DNice and I were just talking about that the other day. That's why some of these coaches want to play games in certain areas to get exposure to the recruiting base. The Aggies would do well in the SEC with the right coach. That is their only hang up. Sherman can not be that guy. I would roll up to Spurrier and offer him a boat load of money to come College Station. You think he is doing wonders at SC. He would be able to get a Qb to stay in Texas and not leave like Matthew Stafford did. Like I said. It is a win win for the SEC and the Aggies if they get this done.

And as for LSU. LSU is one more season away from not meeting expectations to losing some kids from La. Kids aint loyal. Let the hat man keep failing to get back to NC game or beat the Alabama or Florida schools regularly. All it takes is for Oregon to kick the isht out of LSU and a few kids gone change their mind. You will never take all the kids from another state. But like I said, you only need one or 2 top ones to add to your list. Slocum and Sherrill used to take what they wanted in La. So did other schools. LSU is a johnny come lately to being good when Saban got there. Aint like they have Alabama cred in that state. They start losing again and you will see a mass exodus.

This is true. How soon people forget. A&M used to dominate the LSU series in the 90s when they played. Texas A&M already has the top athletic program in the Big 12 and has more money and resources than any SEC school. They'll compete just fine.

with all that money and all those facilities, Tamu has won the big 12 1 time. way back in 1998. 1998. Now some think they could come in the SEC and win it.

:lol::lol:

Well I said "compete". A&M would instantly dominate in other sports and be competitive in the SEC in football. With the right coach, A&M could be a dominant force in football as well. Thats just common sense.
