Texas Governor Rick Perry on Wednesday gave the conference realignment stew another stir when he told reporters "conversations have been had" regarding a possible move by Texas A&M from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference.

Perry, a former yell leader at A&M, did not specify to The Dallas Morning News reporters if the conversations were being held internally at the school or with SEC officials.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive could not be reached for comment.
Texas A&M, in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, did not deny its interest in a possible move: "President (Bowen) Loftin is committed to doing what is best for Texas A&M, not only now, but also into the future," the statement read. "We continue to have wide-ranging conversations regarding all aspects of the university, including both academics and athletics."

Heard about that this morning. At first I was thinking that TAMU was just making noise. But now I think they WILL do this simply to get out of the shadow of U. Texas. I think Texas getting that Longhorn Network was the last straw for some die-hard TAMU folks.

+1. Hello.

Yep. It is only a matter of time. I knew it would not take long. Now we will see what OU does. Them Sooner folks didn't like the way the conference catered to UT either. The Big 12 is about to fold up shop in the next couple of years.

Don't be shocked if the Big 10 continues to expand and looks at Missouri or OU. Missouri was already on their radar until they convinced Nebraska. Then they will go after a team like Pittsburgh from the East. Notre Dame always remains a possibility but you know how them folks are. LOL.

The funny thing is that they "break" this as if Rick Perry was confirming something. He actually only said "I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."

I see why some folks hate the media.

This IS interesting, though. I also heard that they intend to do everything they can to continue the annual game with UT on Thanksgiving. The issue will be whether Texas agrees... I'm sure they will be salty about A&M leaving.

TAMU can't prevent Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon St, Boise St, Alabama, LSU :emlaugh:, Auburn, Arkansas, USC, Cal, et al from coming into their back door and snagging blue-chips they cannot secure so I'm not understanding how they anticipate attempting to matchup w/ those superpowers in the SEC that have all-world players, prolly the nations' best collection of talent in one conference, at the top only. :emlaugh:

If tamu can't win the lowly big 12, they aint bout to win the SEC. :scared:

Middle of the pack, or lower.

They may be able to increase their recruiting base. Their issue has been coaching and then Mack Brown out recruiting them in Texas. Moving to the SEC would get them back into La, Ms and other SEC areas. Those kids know they would still be in the SEC to play against the other schools. Plus A&M has big money just have not used it right in their hiring practices. When Jackie Sherrill and then Slocum coached them.......they did alright. Both recruited Texas and outside of Texas. Slocum being a McNeese grad was able to get some La boys down there. LOL. Sherrill.......well we know how he recruited. LOL. Get A&M to the SEC and hire the right coaching staff and they can win. They would be no worse than what Mark Richt is doing at Ga. I would say they would be better than them consistently if they move. That head coaching job would be more attractive than it is now being in UT's shadow.

They have consistently hired the wrong people after they ran Slocum off. LOL. Remember Texas was that way until Mack Brown arrived in Austin.

If I was A&M, I would move to the SEC and then hire Terry Bowden or someone like that who has some connections in SEC land. Mike Sherman needs to go back to being a NFL assistant. LOL. Although he is supposed to have a top 10 team this year.

Po' aTm... the first and oldest school of higher learning here but consistently outpaced by the school the klan created @ Austin lol in retaliation to PVAMU being formed and associated w/ the A&M System in the 1870s. :smh: I pulled for them to always do well. Too many relatives actually hit their gridiron and helped build their football foundation leaving the 60s.

Whomever they are to hire would have to beat the bushes from Texas to North Carolina acquiring talent. :read: I'm talking top 30 of each state in order to compete in the SEC. Really never studied the SEC until lately and man oh man oh man they DO have a solid collection of talent in that conference, @ the top. lol When the Big XII was actually XII members, at the top lol, they were pretty physically gifted (when Mizzou was competitive and Nebraska returned to form). The one school I felt awfully sorry for in the Big XII was Colorado. When they stopped paying kids from Texas to play for them... :emlaugh: One year, on defense, they had 7 kids from Texas on their starting rotation and several backups from Texas. Couldn't figure it out @ first until I actually spoke w/ one of the young men driving up in his then new Nissan 200-SX (remember those?). lol

That's why you hire a SEC man to do it. LOL. It aint impossible. Steve Spurrier would do better at A&M than he is doing at South Carolina and he has them competing for titles in the SEC now. Could you imagine what he could do being in Texas with them Aggies. LOL. He is a perfect good ole boy that has a national reputation and could get kids to show up from other states to College Station that he can't get to come to Columbia SC. Not that Spurrier will leave.

Depending on what the NCAA says about Butch Davis and that UNC fiasco. A&M would be wise to talk to him. That's if he is cleared by the NCAA. He is the type of guy that can go into homes across the South and get players. You need that good ole boy with some personality that can sell A&M. Then of course be able to coach them. Would ole Tuberville leave Texas Tech for College Station if the Big 12 folds and the Aggies moved to the SEC?

That would be interesting. Hell even Philip Fulmer would not be that bad. Don't know if he would want to coach now. But he at least could recruit talent to Tn. That's why I mentioned Terry Bowden. Mike Sherman just seems out of place to me with them. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy who can recruit well. But again, we will see what this year's team does since the coaches poll has them ranked pretty high. One more beat down of them boys up in Austin and Mack Brown gone have to go. I can actually see that happening too.

they need to stay where they at

Why? Surely they wouldn't be any worse than Ole Miss and Ms State. I would think they would beat them schools regularly if they made the right hire and moved into the West. Shole wouldn't make it any easier for the smaller SEC schools competing against them. Just gives those kids other options of where to play. But again, they would have to hire the right folks to deal with the SEC. It would also be good for the SEC to bring another big money school with a rabid fan base and also gets the other SEC schools into Texas outside of LSU. Win win for both the conference and A&M

Let's use some common sense here, I am gone leave a conference where all I have to do is beat Oklahoma, Texas, and occasionally Missouri or Oklahoma State when they are good, to go to a conference where I have to play Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, and etc.??? Yeah that makes alot of sense. Truth be told, Texas A & M needs to look at itself in the mirror. As big as Texas is, you mean to tell me that UT gets ALL THE BEST PLAYERS? If TAMU would get better coaches and recruiters then they wouldn't worry about what Texas is doing and they would stop Oklahoma and other schools from coming in and stealing kids from them.

Not a shock.
Texas A@M has been wanting to move since that last round of conference breakups. Only reason they still in the BIG 12 is because Texas and Oklahoma agreed to give them a equal share of the revenue pie when those two decided against going to the Pac 12. Now they back up in arms again over that Texas Sports TV network that ESPN pumped $300 million into.

Big 12 is on borrowed time.
Don't know who else the SEC will go after to even things out, but Texas A@M to the SEC is all but a future done deal. Texas A@m ain't no scrubb school and joining the SEC will HELP them in recruiting.

Not the issue.
They tired of Texas and the Big 12 just like nebraska was. Why stay in a league that is clearly biased in favor of one team when you can go the Nebraska and Colorado route and join another super conference that put you on equal revenue footing with the rest of the schools.

Good point. Can anyone see Texas eventually becoming an independent?

They got the money, backing, and alums to do it.
That is the only way they will be able to continue to operate like they do now. There is not one top tier conference, (SEC, BIG 10, BIG 12, ACC, Big East), that will allow Texas to come in and lead the other conference schools around by the nose.

Ole Miss, Vanderbult, Arkansas, Miss. State, etc., may not be on the same athletic BIG DOG level as the Alabamas and Floridas of the conference, but when it comes time to share the revenue pie and make conference decisions, those smaller schools got the same voice that a Alabama or a Florida has.

In the BIG 12, there is only one voice that is heard.............TEXAS.

That's the problem. Just bad hires. Mack Brown is a helluva recruiter. But before he came Texas A&M was whooping arse. Trust me the SEC would not just beat the isht out of A&M if they came over. And like I said, it would make their coaching job more attractive to guys who want to coach in the SEC. They have the money and fan base. I don't even like them Aggies. But I do know they would not be a bottom feeder in the SEC if they showed up in 2012. Right now they can beat a lot of SEC schools on the football field. Maybe not the LSU's, Bama's and the top. But hell, Tn, Ga, Vandy, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Ms State (even though they are better now under Mullen), Kentucky aint all that scary for A&M. Plus if they are in the SEC. Now they are in your backyard to recruit. They can sell themselves to a kid in those SEC states. Like I said let a Butch Davis or Spurrier type coach take that job and see what happens. Dan Mullen could take that job and do WAYYYYYYY more than he can at Ms State. Not saying he wants the job because all he gots to do to stay at State is win 7-8 games a year and show up every so often in the SEC title game. That would not cut it at the bigger SEC schools and would not cut it at A&M.

You shole is right Frat. You could see this coming last year. I remember when you posted it. A&M to the SEC is a win for both the school and conference. Aint like they some scrubs.

If I am the SEC and they get A&M then I go after Clemson who to me is more of a SEC type school than South Carolina is. It is close enough to the SEC and their football program would benefit by being in the SEC than the ACC and the basketball team is decent and would make some noise in the SEC. I am sure Ga Tech would be a candidate even though I think they would get eaten alive in the SEC. Then there is always Florida State if you can convince them and convince the UF folks to want them in the SEC. LOL. If the Big 12 folds. The SEC can go after Missouri as well. Not to far. Close to Arkansas and not that far from Kentucky or Tennessee where it would cause travel issues. Hell them mofos rich, it don't matter. LOL.

Clemson or Georgia tech would be the natural fit.
Personally, I would go after Georgia Tech first so as a conference, I would have 3 rival televised year ending games. The EGG Bowl, The IRON Bowl, and Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Georgia would still win recruiting, but putting Georgia tech in the SEC would be a recruit war between Georgia and Georgia Tech for recruits in the state Georgia.

If TCU had waited a little while longer before jumping up to go to the Big East, they could have been apart of this mix I believe. If TAMU goes to the SEC, they'd be a shoe if for the Big 12.

Texas A&M in the SEC is more than just about football. They will be in the mix in football, but in basketball (Men's and Women's) they are instantly no worse than the 2nd best teams in the conference. In baseball they are highly competitive as well. Track, well they win the SEC the first yearS they are in.
