Yup. But the way some of these folks are posting, you would think that a SWAC regular season champion would go deep into the NCAAs, maybe even the Final Four.
They would lose the first round also.

Had it not been for automatic bids, we would not have a team in the post season period.

Fiyah,
but Pine Bluff wasnt the regular season champ.
conference champ or tourney champ?
Regardless, any NCAA wins and close wins are 15 years old. We can't compete with any mid-majors right now.
:snicker:They would lose the first round also.
But others want to cry foul when the season champion fails to win the tournament, hell it's no one's fault but the season champion lol.
Wrong, Pine Bluff won their game
While this article makes some strong points and places a huge indictment on many of us involved. I must add that, while our interest on this site is mainly the SWAC, this could be said for the bottom four or five conferences as listed by their RPI or Sagarin Ratings.
All this talk and not one thing about the horrible overall play in this conference. Just more excuses and embarrasment.
OK..........Screw it.
Teams need to schedule the easiest teams around, rest players and win just enough games to get to the tournament, and then kick it into high gear. Why should we GAS about the regular season. The REGULAR SEASON IS MEANINGLESS IN THIS CONFERENCE because the only team that is going anyway is the tournament champion. We ain't getting 2, 3, or 4 of these sorry azz teams in anyway.
Problem solved.

Alabama State has no business playing for a national championship. At least that’s what’s being intimated by the national press prior to the Hornets (17-17) opening round game versus Texas-San Antonio (19-13) on Wednesday.
“Alabama State has the NCAA tourney’s worst record” was the Associated Press headline, and it was immediately reproduced in newspapers and on web sites throughout the country.
Yep, once again a historically black college squad has a big embarrassing scarlet letter across its chest.

:snicker:
But some of us like to tell (or fool) ourselves otherwise.
:scared:
seems that you're crying foul, by suggesting that the reg season champ should get the invite and not the tourney champ. Heck, the SWAC tourney is swac team's March Madness. winner take all tourney. Nothing wrong with. (and like I've said EVERY year, I think all 10 SWAC teams should be there too and if the 10th place team wins the tourney and gets the automatic bid, then so be it.Who cries foul? Hell, that's why its called March Madness;
Fiyah Nonchalant wants to send the regular season champ straight to the tourney, I know UAPB won but they didn't win the regular season championship.....
you can schedule whoever you want to in the early part of the year, but by January, you'll be playing SWAC teams only, so your logic is flawed.Teams need to schedule the easiest teams around, rest players and win just enough games to get to the tournament, and then kick it into high gear. Who cries foul? Hell, that's why its called March Madness; anyone can lose in a 4-day tournament held on consecutive days. How many D1 teams won their regular season and conference tournament this season, anyway? I can only think of KU and UConn.
This has already been established 2 topics ago. What is your point?
still waiting on a response to that, from the folks who are saying the regular season champion should get the bid.The sad thing is, our conference champion has never won a tournament game including the play in game......

Dude, keep it real and put your school pride to the side for a second like me:
The level of play in the SWAC is at the bottom of D1. The SWAC Tournament should be nothing more than a recreational event where a trophey is awarded.. Our conference is not strong enough to receive multiple bids to the NCAA Tournament so why would we give our only bid to a team who's only body of work is winning a 4-day tournament?
