Folks tend to get "personal" when they can't debate using logic.

Whose to say Doug will get the quality players he needs for his system? You're hoping that that will happen, but you don't know.

Can he recruit another Bruce Eugene? Can he get the likes of Spears as his offensive coordinator? These are questions one has to ask before jumping the gun.
You guys seem to think that Doug is the end-all be-all, and I'm here to say that he's not. He's a good coach, but he's not great.
If you do hire him, I doubt if he'll be better than Pete. Yall lost a good one when yall lost Pete.

You're entitled to your opinion regardless of how flawed it might be. I'm simply saying that Pete is the best coach SU's had in the last 35 years. I dare anyone from your school to refute this, including you.

To think that you'll get someone to come in and right off the bat, do what Pete did is a tell tale sign of folks living in la-la land.

He's probably using SU as leverage to get an extended deal. Can't blame him though. Even if SU gets him, how long is he willing to stay until a better NFL job or D-1A offer comes along? That's the other question some should be asking.

Ditto... Recruiting at Grambling State and SU is totally different. The name Grambling State has capital that is unrivaled by any other SWAC school.

Man, what are talking about. The Grambling State brand name is real. And yes, we must continue to work hard at improving our football program, but you cannot ignore the fact "Grambling State" is the biggest name in black college football.

Its all about his name. I call into a black sports show in Dallas, hosted by a Tuskegee/JSU alum, and he brought it up to me yesterday. I told him to slow his role, there are a number of candidates in the running including PV's Defensive Coordinator, which is a Southernite, the Redskins Assist Coach, and a wide range of others. It is possible, but certainly not guaranteed.

Doug is the only Black QB to win a Super Bowl and he did so with the most dramatic performance in the history of the game. When he interviews for a coaching job on the college or pro level, it will make the top sports news of the day/week.

All that to say, there is no doubt that he is an attraction for recruiting, which should be one component we are looking for. The questions remain if he is the best total package for us.

You don't need no damn boosters to win this conference. Just say you are sced if Doug gets the SU job and leave it at that. Pete aint done isht at SU than any other GOOD coach couldn't have done. While I appreciate what he accomplished, SU has always been a good job to have. We just didn't hire the right mofos to execute until Spikes hired Pete. Same as your dumb AD did when he hired Bell and promoted Hughes. Had yall brought in the RIGHT coach then maybe it would not have been 96 to 2007 before you won the SWAC again.

Same went for Alabama. Until they made the right hire in Saban....nothing Bear Bryant or later with Gene Stallings won helped their cause with coaching that was not up to par. But they got right in bringing Saban in. Your analogy is so dumb it makes no sense whatsoever. You act like Pete is the only mofo that can win at SU. Which we all know damn better. You shole is right Pop. None of our schools have that kind of clout with these new thinking kids these days. If we think our names alone can recruit a kid then you are naive.

Kids are what have you done lately and what can you do for me if I come to your school mentality these days. So you better have a coach that can wheel and deal to sell your school and football program. Frazier did that at PV and they bear the fruits of his hard work. Living off your name gets you no where. Even the FBS schools can't afford to do that.
 
PV and TSU are in/near the fourth largest city in America. They really have no reason to not field a decent team.

Southern will be okay if they invest in their program. They have the resources and fanbase to be successful. The same as JSU. However, both programs allowed themselves to fall in mediocrity by believing that teams would lay down because of who you are.

The answer is who cares. I would hope all our schools would like their coaches names to appear on lists for NFL and FBS jobs. It would bring more recognition to the conference if our coaches were considered worthy of bigger opportunities to coach.

This is the thinking that will forever hold us back as a conference. We need to have coaches that other folks want at their programs. If nobody wants them but us......then ........well.....what does that say.


As the for the leverage. You can't string along a NFL franchise. Ask Brett Favre how they worked in Green Bay. LOL. Especially in a position like Doug's. If Tampa Bay is serious about trying to hire Bill Cowher then Doug has no leverage. Bill is going to want complete control ....ie almost GM style to coach somewhere.

I am not saying that the branding is not real. However, that doesn't amount to a pile of beans these days.. Ask the Notre Dame's, Miami's, Florida State's, and Michigan's of the world if their history is helping them while the Boise State's and Utah's are out there kicking them to sleep.

If nobody is concerned then why were there 5 threads about it the second the Baton Rouge newspaper broke the news about AN INTERVIEW created by folks who don't even live in BR.

Pete didn't pimp us for anything because during his tenure at SU he has a winning record over all ya'll mofos. You went to PV dud. Ya'll are at the top of the mountain of getting pimped. Don't let this one little title in 70 years give y'all a swollen head. :lol:
