Region 6-4A used to always be a fight every year. My boy played football and basketball for Lawrence County. I used to love going to the LC, Brookhaven, South Pike and McComb matchups......with them thick country girls all over the place!

Like I said, 5a is the nightmare conference this year.:scared:
Last year Wayne County(4a) beat the crap out of Meridian(5a) last year 41-13.
Meridian went on to beat South Panola in the State finals.

But then again, Wayne County has been a nightmare for teams going on 2 decades now no matter what division they play in or who they play.
Even South Panola couldn't get a grip on those guy's before the streak started.

I think I'm going to go watch that game... it should be pretty Competitive on Both sides (at least I hope) if FC wins, then Ole Brook can just hang it up b/c they will not do well at ALL against the teams in BOLD!

Man, the BHS/LC/McComb/Spike games were always off the chain.
I just hate that they're all seperated now :shame:

I think McDaniels was at a JPS school coaching before coming back to Hazlehurst after Coach Brown went to the Delta.

Yeah Todd coached at Wingfield in between coaching at Hazlehurst... first as DC and then HC. And yes he is from Hazlehurt originally. Graduated in '95.

Players, you from CS? I'm from H-town... And I definitely can't explain why you guys suck every year and we're usually pretty good.

I don't think CS takes football as seriously as Hazlehurst. You guys were perennially a basketball school, going back to at least the Jimmy Floyd/Joseph McKinney days. (What a squad!)

Yall used to dominate us in bball every year. I was 0 & lifetime vs CS when I was there.

Folks in Hazlehurst take more pride in football, though, and invest more into the program... from the booster club to the coaching staff. CS never really put a great football coaching staff together IMO.

But yeah, the imbalance between the 2 football programs considering their proximity is pretty crazy... no different from North/South Pike and North/Panola though if you think about it...

Someone mentioned that Hazlehurst used to suck... Yep, that's true. '93 (Todd McDaniel's junior year) was our first winning season in LONG time, but we've had a winning program since then minus 2 maybe 3 down seasons...

J-State2DaPoint you let Preston Wilson cut you? :lmao: :lmao:

I was his starting PG 2 straight years in intramural when he was in Crystal Springs (even though I was from Hazlehurst).... Pissed some folks off too

And that was back when the rivalry was intense... JSU-Southern intense... During the season we used to have take cover on the floor of the bus leaving the campus... with police escorts. :uzi:... even after losing :lmao:

But Brookhaven had some ballas back then though, so you had some stiff competition. They used to stay ranked under Wilson and going to the Big House!

You got a point.
In "mordern history" the kids in C.S. didin't take football seriously.
From 1995 to 2004 was a total waste.
The sad part is when I go to my hometown, I see then huge arse 6'3" 230lb kids doing nothing.

If you were that size or had speed when I was there or before, your arse was on the field.
Parent's just don't make their kids try anything.

The coach they got now is trying to turn that back around.
The basketball programs, boy's and girls, are kicking arse like we always did.
We have a good team every year in that sport.

Sad to see the game not being the very last game of the season anymore... The "rivalry" is officially no more!

:shame:

Yep.
Used to be, when that game was being played, you could go rob the visiting teams hometown blind cause everybody would be gone to the game.

:lmao: :lmao:

Heck yeah! :lmao:

I remember every year during that game everyone was saying now's the time to go rob a store or house!... All the policemen were either covering the game or at the game! :lmao:

Aye, Soccer was my 1st sport... :whatever:
Basketball was just something I picked up on b/c I was so tall.

We were pretty good in bball before the Jimmy Floyd/Joseph McKinney years. But that team should go down as the most underachieving team in MS high school basketball history. That team second squad could have started any where in the state and those mofos got spanked in the second round of the district tournament by Mendenhall. I remember that game like it was yesterday. Mendenhall ran a box and 1 on Jimmy Floyd and it was down hill from there. Jimmy Floyd was the best damn shooter I have ever seen in person.

What years were you in high school???

Tha truth.
They had to be at the game because of all the traffic, people, and security needed.
The ones that was off duty was at the game watching their kid, cousin, or whoever play.

Ain't like either town had more than a dozen officer's each on the payroll.
The visiting town alway's bought that police escort, leading the team bus in str8 thru the middle of town like they was rock star's or something.
After the game, SMALL TOWN PARTY and man did negro's party.:flippy:

I doubt if you heard about this old C.S tradition back in the day.
I know these kids today have never seen it
.
In Crystal Springs, that Friday morning of the game, we used to make a full sized dummy Indian stuffed with firecrackers.
They would take that indian out to the Lake/Park on Hwy 51 and hide it.
After lunch, they would bus all the kids, or you could drive, out to the park and we would have an Indian hunt.
When someone found it, they would parade that thing back to the pavilian like it was a funeral, strap it to a standing 2x4 and set fire to that mutha.
Firecrackers would blow that thing apart from head to toe. :lmao:

Those were the days.:)

I somewhat disagree. We had some horrible coaches bruh. My freshmen and sophomore years we had one of the best RB in the state of MS (David Hart) and they literally ran that dude in the ground. We ran freaking 35 and 36 Power the whole damn game. We threw probably 3 passes per game. Those coaches were horrible. The only coach that was decent was David Sprouse, but he was average at best. My Junior year they hired Coach Cole. He was the freaking junior high coach at Hazlehurst the previous year. That dude couldn't coach a NFL team to a pee-wee championship.

Yeah, yall were good before then but that was really the first squad that stood out to me as statewide powerhouse. Didn't yall get up to #2 in the state that year? Had the talent to compete nationally IMO. Definitely underachieved!... I heard "coaching" being blamed for that...

BTW, I remember J. Floyd pokin one off the opening tip one time @ Hazlehurst. :smh:... And McKinney used to win dunk contests all over the state! I remember him starting that alley oop off the wall to himself dunk! --->

I finished in '98. I was there playing against Keith Dixon, Shaun Holtz, Attarius Norwood, Harold Boston (before he transferred) etc... Another ridiculous squad... all 6'5 - 6'8 :smh:

Boston & Holtz were dandy dozens as seniors and Keith was on the top seniors list. They kinda underachieved too. Got bounced by Canton in the big house...

Someone posted how strange it is that Hazlehurst is so good in football and CS is so bad... Well I think it's just as strange how CS always had all those TREES for basketball and Hazlehurst had average height!

The string beans and cornbread couldn't been that much different in CS... or was it Wilson's Meat House?

I totally remember that... I had a couple friends in CS, and I used to always hear them saying "that's why we set yall's Indian on fire!"

I never really knew what the heck they were talkin about though because they'd just start laughing after that! :lmao:

:read:

Case n point... This is exactly one of the coaches I was talking about. He was my geometry & P.E. teacher just before going to CS. We were all absolutely shocked that he got a HS head coaching gig, but we were happy to hear that it was at CS! :lmao:

Yeah, everyone remembers that game! Straight classic... especially with all the hype leading up to it!

Jimmy was definitely lights out... Legend!

I think we made it to #5 in the state then lost in a Christmas tournament to Yazoo City. The crazy thing about that was we had beat them by damn near 50 points a few weeks before that. Yes coaching was what killed that team. But they had the talent to overcome the lack of coaching.

When it came to dunking, Julius Murry was a much better dunker then Joseph. Julius broke the backboard in practice one day.

We finished around the same time. I finished in '97. That 96-97 squad was much better then that 97-98 team. The 96-97 team had Willie Hackett, Michael Murry, and Donald Young along with all those other guys you name except Boston. When we played you all, Hackett did a wind mill dunk on a fast break and damn near brought the roof down in CS. Those were the days. That team underachieve also.

But you all had some big guys also. Jammie Jenkins was about 6'4". And you all had JR (I think that's his name).

Dude you are bringing back so many memories! Julius was beast! A bit short, but dude had a body! (He prolly shoulda played football too)... I can picture him breaking a backboard.... Still don't think he was a better dunker than Jo though. He had the power jams, but JoJo brought the finesse... (with a little power too)...

I liked the 96-97 squad too. Michael Murray was a scorer! (He's the reason why Boston left after 9th grade)

And you had to love Young comin off dat bench! He brought the energy and some scoring punch. Coach had him in there during crunch time of that last elimination game vs West Point...

Yeah I remember the Hackett windmill... (No comment) :smh:
He had a sweet up & under reverse lay-up on us too... :smh:

But I rememeber in the Brookhaven tournament (vs B'haven) he tried to go up and poke one but Melvin Smith went up & pinned it against the glass with 2 hands! Now that was nasty! Melvin was the only player I saw that year with more hops than Hackett!

Do you remember Tadaka Dent though in '96? Dude was mean! He used to get the rock in the post, take one power dribble and go up strong with that left handed smash! Oooh wee!

I think the 96-97 squad was better than 97-98 because that 98 class didn't have strong back court play. That's why they lost in the Big House. Canton used a full court press. Edward Moses was my boy, but he couldn't handle the ball well enough... and Tay was just a shooter/scorer.

Man those gyms used to be packed! You had to get there early!

The good ole days!

Do you know my know/remember Garcia Dion L?
He played football for C.S during the mid 1990's........Linebacker.
