Stackhouse suspended one game for flagrant foul

MIAMI -- Shaquille O'Neal mocked his collision with Jerry Stackhouse as being less vicious than a love tap from his daughters. The NBA declared it worthy of a one-game suspension.

Stackhouse

The league announced Friday that Stackhouse must miss Game 5 of the finals for his hard foul on O'Neal in the third quarter of Game 4.

Stackhouse was called for a flagrant foul when it happened. But after reviewing the play and discussing the details with both players, league vice president Stu Jackson opted to upgrade the punishment.

"The contact by Jerry Stackhouse was clearly excessive and warrants a suspension," Jackson said in a release.

The series is tied 2-2, with the Heat having won the last two games. Game 5 is Sunday night in Miami.

Before the league's decision, Dallas coach Avery Johnson said he didn't think the blow deserved a suspension, noting that O'Neal wasn't penalized for hitting Stackhouse hard enough in Game 1 that he opened a gash across the top of his nose that required three stitches to close.

I'm not suprised...........I believe it was a just decision..........( I'm pulling for Dallas)

This is some BS. Shaq bust Stacks nose. Shaq bows Dirk INTENTIONALLY. Shaq recieves a good foul, now they want to suspend?

It's funny how they call it a flagrant foul when you clearly see Stack going after the ball with BOTH hands. Yes, hit made contact with Shaq but Stacks hands were trying to hit the basketball. The foul only looks bad viewing it for ONE angle and because both players were in the air. Also Shaq was not hurt. Technically it wasn't a hard fall. Shaq big azz fell because he was in the air when the contact was made.

The NBA suspense the man after Shaq says that his 7 year daughter commits harder fouls.

You MoFo's that call the suspense fair are the same MoFo's that lobbied for the NBA to get rid of trash talking.

This suspension smells like Pat Riley campaigned for it.

Like a DB going after a football and trying to knock down a receiver......

I guess it's also funny that while Stack was just GOING AFTER THE BALL, he knocked down a 7'1 350lb(?) guy? Come on, that foul was intended for Shaq not to score and Stack knew that he had to make a hard foul like that to stop Shaq from scoring. That's the only way a guy Stack's size can knock somebody as big as Shaq to the ground.

Obviously you don't understand the article nor do you understand that there's a distinction between a "HARD FOUL" and a "FLAGRANT FOUL"

Did you watch the play? That play was obviously an Intentional (Flagarant) Foul. It wasn't even called for how bad Shaq was hit.

are u serious??? Is Blind Melly Jelly any kin to you, because Stackhouse didn't bit more go for a block than the man in the moon. He straight hacked SHaq. Look at James Posey getting one game for what he did to Kirk Hinrich and compare that to what Stack did to Shaq and tell me if a suspension isn't warranted.

No, the suspenion was not warranted.

For those to ask if the play was seen before we made our comments. Why don't you look at something more than the contact. When they show the top view, Stack hands go after the ball. Stack tried to go through Shaq to get to the ball, but Stack went after the ball. Hence the reason we say the suspenion is uncalled for. Stack did not grab Shaq and pull him down.

As for the one that asked how Shaq hit the ground. Remember your physics from college. Shaq was a force moving, once Shaq went airborn. Yes, Shaq jumped while running. Stack fouled Shaq. All of that mass that makes up Shaq shifted. When moving mass and force from object B, Stack, collided with moving mass and force object b, Shaq. Shaq lost control of his body, hence Shaq fell.

Stu 'Ya sa boss' Jackson did Pat Riley's bidding.

Stackhouse admitted that he tried to foul O'Neal hard. He also stated that O'Neal will have to earn his points from the charity stripe. It doesn't matter which angle you view the replay. Since when did Pat Riley campaign for Stackhouse's suspension?

Is Stackhouse going for the ball?

Understand the rule and how they are applied.

1) "Hard Fouls" which amount to nothing more then a regular foul.

2) "Intentional Fouls" which amount to a free throw and possession of the ball

3) "Flagrant Fouls" which amount to fouling a player hard with the intent to do harm and results in an ejection a free throw and possession of the ball and later suspension.

The suspension is just in todays NBA. If you watch the play from the backboard camera, you can see Stack run into Shaq with is elbow first and then extend the elbow along with his body contact to send Shaq flying. That was a perfect hit. You have to appreciate the physics of a 220lb man sending a 320lb man flying thru the air like that. Thats how hard he hit Shaq. GR got fired up when Stackhouse did his thing.

Like JR says, they just dont make hard brothers like they use to. This is the Jordanism of the NBA. David Stern had to sissify the league to help Jordan get pass Detroits "No Jordan" rules, hence hard no layup playoff fouls get you suspended.

Actually, Stackhouses fouls is what R. Bell should have done to Kobe. Instead of grabbing a man and throwing in the ground like a lil beyotch, wait for him to go up for a layup and take his ass out as if you are trying to block the shot.

Stackhouses foul was much more flagrant than Artest, Terry, Bell, or Poseys.

I disagree with many of the flagrant foul calls in the NBA. Stackhouse wasn't trying to hurt Shaq. It was just a hard foul to stop him from scoring. But the NBA refs tend to call many hard fouls "flagrant." They really need to do a better job. These are athletes out there, not china dolls.

I just hope that if Dallas does not win, you all don't blame it on Stackhouse missing this game.

I am only going for Miami because I want Mourning to get a ring....he deserves it.

This is a classic case of people seeing what they want to see. Stackhouse put a forearm in Shaq's jaw and never went for the ball and people don't think it warrants a suspension?
