L.C. Cole coaching in Montgomery again...

On Friday, Moncrief said if he should be fired, he thought current Poet assistant Steve Holloway should be considered for the job. No potential replacements have been officially named.

Washington said the school "is looking for the best coach available." Washington would neither confirm nor deny rumors that former Alabama State head coach and current Lane College assistant L.C. Cole could become a candidate for the job.

Speculation among some area coaches is that Cole, whose wife and son still live in Montgomery, might be interested in coming back to town.

"I'd like to believe the door is wide open for anyone," Washington said. "L.C. Cole is certainly a great football coach. There are a lot of good coaches out there. Once the job has been posted, we'll go through the interview process and find the coach we're looking for."

Re: Could L.C. Cole be coaching in Montgomery again...

Besides his family why would L.C. want to come back to Bama to coach high school football especially in Montgomery. The Montgomery coaches are some of the lowest paid coaches in the state. I can see if it was Hoover, Spain Park, Mountain Brook, or Daphne, but Montgomery. It's a slap in the face just mentioning his name for the job.

I am sure ole LC is keeping an eye on what happens at SU when Pete retires at the end of his 3 year deal. I think this is year 2 of the contract? I think He is 61 this year. Just thought I throw that one out there.

Robber, when dealing with SU politics nothing is a lock. LOL. I am sure there will be some Cole supporters and a bunch of Cole haters. In my opinion the guy most SU folks will say is a front runner is West Virginia OC Calvin MaGee who was all SWAC TE when I first got to SU and went on to play for Tampa Bay. I would think his name would be at the top of the list. Especially in light of how well he is doing working under Rich Rodriguez. They have some La and Bama boys on that squad too. So I know he is recruiting some folks. So him being a former SU player will make him a sentimental favorite. But who knows who will apply for our job. Heck we thought Avery Johnson would be available for basketball but he done blown up in the NBA, so if WVA keeps doing well, who knows if Calvin would even want our job.

The good thing for us is that we can pay a good enough salary to get pretty much who we want within reason of course. LC at SU is a scary thought for alot of folks though.:devil2:

Frat, that would be the thing that would keep him out the running. Some folks may think no matter that NCAA has cleared him, that he is a cheater. One thing for sure is that LC aint never cheated as bad as Cooley did at Pine Bluff. Some of that stuff was death penalty warranted. Cooley had lost his mind there. Of course LC name will be tossed out there at all our schools when an opening comes up. You know he's itching to get back in the SWAC. TxSU should have went after him instead of ole Wilson.

LC at SU would cause the other SWAC schools to really be wondering what is going on over on the Bluff. :lmao:

Ole Gunslinger was / is a good coach a chip off the block or Big John, Coleman and Gilliam.

You know it is said that this man will always have that label as a cheater. He damn if he do and damn if he dont. Guilt by association. Dont get me wrong where theres smoke, there is fire. He new something and if he didnt he should by being a head coach.

Not really. This season will make 4 years he's been without a head-coaching job. And all of those years has been as an assistant at lowly schools. And he wasn't all that great at Bama State any.

Now Mike White on the other hand....that's a scary thought.

Montgomery schools don't pay much. Cole does not even have any teacher certification the same reason that Lanier HC was fired. The most L.C. would make next year as a first year teacher and HC and AD would be around 40,000 maybe a little more or a little less.

I disagree about Coles at Bama State. He had that one bad year, but he put the team that Coe won with together. He positioned that team to be what it became. Title game participants and then champs. L. C. can coach. That ain't never been questioned.

I do believe Mike White could be beast at a few SWAC schools. He was my 1st choice for our job. Comegy couldn't beat his teams. That's where his one loss usually came from.

My respone was do to Golden Kitten remarks. She said that he might get paid more as a HC in a Montgomery than Lane. I was telling her he may get paid more at an high school but it want be in Montgomery.
