You're right, but we're really talking about when teams are tied, split the regular season games, and have the same margin of victory.
Right now, that's the case with ASU and SU. Each team won by 1 point on its home court.

There are other options before over-all records come into play.

Over-all records should be the last tie-breaker when teams have not played the same schedule.

I know Grambling's non-conference schedule was nowhere near as tough as ours.

oh I understand... in that situation, what else could they do besides go with overall record?
 
it won't come to overall record MH.

the progression goes

-head to head matchups
-point differential
-record against top seeds (progressing all the way down)
-coin toss

I don't know but it has to be something that is common to both teams.
(most points scored in conference games, avg. margin of victory in conference games, or something along those lines)
