Alcorn boys is in 8th and Pine Bluff is in 9th. Alcorn holds the tie breaker over them.

if UAPB loses on Monday...basically it will open a whole new can of worms...that makes Alcorn vs PV on the 3rd the fight for 8th and UAPB will HAVE to beat Valley to qualify bearing Alcorn or PV doesn't win out...UAPB does not own the tiebreaker over PV also.

that loss to GSU tonight mean's UAPB's postseason starts Monday night..they need to win to have somewhat of a cushion but if they lose.....

Alcorn could just go on and forfeit the Texas games and save the university money.Playing only 15 minutes of basketball is not going to beat River Bottom Middle School.

CONGRATS TO THE LADY BRAVES........SWAC 2004-2005 regular season CHAMPS(Well at least a tie anyway),the tournament #1 seed.

The last place you want to be is the No.1 seed in the tourney.Ask our girls from last year smh

ah Jackson is #5 in the Men's ranking..

CURRENT TOP 8

2. Alabama State 10-5
3. Miss. Valley 10-6
4. Southern 10-6

What is the tie breaker for basketball???
First tiebreaker between 2 schools is head to head. If Alcorn beat Pine Bluff twice, then Alcorn would go to the tourney if they finished tied.

Don't know about 3 way ties or more.

Is this how they tiebreak splits???
unfortunately yes..... I always wonder why teams keep trying to hold the ball at the end of the game.... they better start shooting especially if they know they already lost the first game. You never know who you will be tied with at the end of the season.

Pine Bluff - the only way they are getting in the tournament is if they beat Valley, have Alcorn lose both of their games and Prairie View lose one of theirs.

Texas Southern - is already in the tournament. a win of one of these last two games will guarentee a automatic 7th place in the tournament. If they lose both of their games and Alcorn wins out, they will be the eight seed.

Prairie View - if they lose to Alcorn by 9 or more points, they are out of the picture. The only way they are going is if they beat Alcorn and Alcorn loses to Texas Southern.

Alcorn - a win over prairie view and a pine bluff lost to Valley will guarantee them a spot in the tournament.

simple as this.....PV wins on Thursday and can sit back and await their fate over the weekend...with the way TSU is playing, I don't see them losing to Alcorn and UAPB has to travel to Valley to win.....this is their biggest game ever as a SWAC member?..Are they up to the pressure?

PV can win Thursday and lose Saturday and back on in with a Alcorn loss and UAPB loss. simple as that

Those missed free throws by UAPB in the end of the PV game last month might come back to haunt them.

Robber,

Yes for two teams.

1)Head to Head
2)Point Differencial in the combined two meetings

So, Alabama A & M University has clinched at least a share of the regular season SWAC Championship and onewin in their last two games would give them the regular season SWAC Championship outright.

Jackson & Gram are tied in conference play (Gram is not ahead). It is listed that way because Gram's over all record is better.

Notice Bama State & S.U. are tied also but S.U. overall record is better so they are listed ahead of bama.

At this point, the order that tied teams are listed mean nothing.
If teams do finish the season tied, over-all record has to be way down the list on any scenarios to break the tie.

As I've always understood it a teams over-all record is and has alway been the first tie-breaker. It would seem to be pretty obvious that's the case since that's the way they put them in order.

INCORRECT..... it goes by head to head competition, then if the teams split it goes by margin of victory....

with these standings they are probably waiting until the season ends to figure out all the technicalities in dealing with margin of victories. Too much of a mess to do it now when teams still have games left.
