Based on the reasoning below in red, would you support such an ordinance? Why or why not?

Vote postponed on proposed beer, wine ordinance in Jackson

By Kathleen Baydala
[email protected]

The Jackson City Council?s Planning Committee again postponed a vote on a proposed ordinance that would limit the sale of beer and wine coolers within city limits.

The new ordinance would prohibit places, such as convenience stores, from selling beer and light wine for off-premise consumption between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 2-7 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

It would not affect restaurants or bars.

Stokes proposed the ordinance in November 2006, stating that current all-hours sales contributes to crime and drunk driving.

Please don't tell me you can purchase beer/wine 24hrs a day 7 days a week in Jaxon babey.

Wow.

Yep.....................Alway's have been this way.

If this passes, it will change nothing as far as crime or anything else.
People just passing "feel good" laws as usual.

I would support it. The cut off hours are reasonable.

What brought this about? Has there been a lot of recent DUIs, accidents, robberies or something that's been related to alcohol consumption?

Halting beer sales for 5 hours a day won't do anything except give the stores time to re-stock the shelves.

It's the city's way of showing that they are proactive in limiting alcohol sales and giving the appearance that they are doing their part to help eliminate crime/DUIs.

Is that the time you go & drop off "products?"

It may be a feel good ordinance (actually sounds like something Madison County would have) but I think the public would appreciate ANY effort to curtail crime and are alcohol related deaths.

It is just for show. We only allow the sale of Beer on Sundays in BR and we still have DUI's on Sunday.

I support it just because I we have that law here in Houston. hahaha

Now that's just mean.

Been plenty of night's I have come in after midnight and discovered to my HORROR, that I don't have a single Red Stripe, Bud, etc., in my fridge.

It is great that I can right this wrong with a quick trip to the corner store at 1am.:D

The bootleg joints will still sale it and they will make more money. They know what they are doing. It's another way to push the crime off in the ghettos. People will now go to Uncle Ray and get that Gin in re-use bottles. Atlanta has never sold alcohol on Sundays and people still go buy liquor and beer and instead of killing you on Sunday they just wait until Monday to get that sin juice.

That very law has been in effect here since forever from what I can recall.

I think it shuts down from what...9pm-8am or thereabouts Sun-Thurs and then 8am-1am (?) Fri/Sat nites?

I can ONLY imagine what purchasing alcohol around the clock would do around these parts. Churches would be empty as hell every Sun morn.

And just how will this effect crime?

2 a-holes were let out of jail yesterday that was under a NO BAIL order for attacking, (Beating), a old lady and robbing her in her home.

You wanna take a bite out of crime, get in the arse of Faye Peterson and the prosecutor's for Hinds county for passing out "get out of jail free cards and plea bargans".

That will cut crime in a real way if they actually did something other than point fingers after a mofo with an arrest record of 100 crimes is rearrested again by the same police officers over and over.

Cutting off beer sales won't solve shat.:whatever:
Keeping mofo's locked up for more than 1 hour will.:smash:

I support it. Buying beer and whine after a certain hour means you really have plans on drinking it RIGHT THEN as opposed to getting a 12 pack on the way home from work. If I'm buying a 12 pack at 2:00am, then more than likely I want to drink it at 2:00am. If I buy it at 6:00pm on my way home from work, then more than likely I want to drink it later on that night.

How many of us have RUSHED to the liquor store before it closes to NOT drink shortly after? I have YET to high tail it down the street at 8:30pm to get some Patron to drink 5 days later. However, I have stopped a the liquor store on my way home from work and picked up some Patron and didn't open the bottle for days later.

that's some flawed thinking there Sperm.

besides, I can say that if I'm gon buy it at 6:00 P.M, I'm gon drink right then (or soon after) and get in my car, endangering you on your way home from work

LOL at frat...........you shole do keep a stock of that red stripe.......

I agree........it will not deter folks from getting lit up and being out there. The clubs and bars will still be open......

:topic:

Hey frat do you remember when we could go get beer in a plastic milk container back in the day......there was a spot close to JSU on Pearl St I believe. I just thought about that and seeing Big Eddie come out with a case of beer for just himself and saying that we had to get our own.......:goof:

There are reasons aplenty why people buy beer at the time they buy it. I assume it's bought to be drank. Regardless of the time.

I guess you guys think that the lottery stopped the under ground number games in the streets also huh?

That store is still open at the corner of Robinson and Prentiss.
That was some good beer for $1.80 a half gallon/ $3 for a whole gallon of draft......................KILLIAM's RED!
Too bad they quit selling it like that................Kept you from paying all that money for draft in a KEG.:ebrow:

And yeah....................BIG EDDIE would be serious about that "Get yo own" too.
Saw him about 2 years ago.
Said he was moving back to Houston from the ATL.
