Your First Job

What did you do in your first job? Not the first one out of college, but the first ever. What did you learn from that experience?

Cashier at Rouse's Supermarket.

I learned that I better graduate high school and college because I don't like customer service jobs that don't pay. I don't like rude customers, and I don't like to "look" busy when the store is slow.

My first job was as a dishwasher at a Restaurant called Charlie Warfields. My first day on the job, dishes were piled up about 2 feet and stretched out on a table for 8 feet. I was in there from 6:30pm to 1:00am washing dishes. Once I got a system down after about a week, I was waiting on the staff to give me dishes.

I learned to strive to be the best at whatever you do. Also like Ms. J4J, it was a big motivator to do well in College because I did not want to do that kind of work for the rest of my life.

My very first job was McDonald's, and I knew I never wanted to work in or run a restaurant. I found out that I didn't like dealing w/the public very much either. I also found out that folks are pretty damn rude, obnoxious, & stupid...people will do anything to try and get some free food. :smh:

My first job was Popeye's fried Chicken. I learned that I never wanted to do fastfood again since I got robbed at gun point.

Jelli, how long did it take for you to get over that experience?

It took me a few weeks. The guy was really calm about the whole thing. He just stood there and held the gun and calmly asked for the money. I didn't have any in my register so I dropped down behind the counter and let my manager and the other cashier handle it. My manager called the police and they caught him that same night. We had to indentify him. I thought I was going to have to tesify against him but we were never called to court.

Nope it was the one on Griggs at MLK. Its no longer there. My friend was working there a year after me and these guys came in with shot guns and jumped the counter. They were traumatized from that for a good while.

Wopper Bopper at Burger King Downtown Dallas at the old Greyhound Bus station.....
I wonder if that is still there....

This was during the time when they had Brown Yellow & Red Polyester Uniformss with those big azz apple jack hats to match.....

I remember catching the bus home after work and everybody had a joke to tell about that damm uniform

I can still hear "Wopper with chesse heavy mayo cut the onions" in my sleep

My Turn, My Turn......

I worked at What-a-Burger. I was on the bar first then the grill. I got the hook up through my mother. I was very happy to be working, Then I realized, there is more to work then this. So, My attitude got bad.

My experiences. I learned that life is about choices. If you make the right choice, you can do well.

My first job was at the U.S. Corps of Engineers. This job helped me realize that I wanted to be a civil engineer.

Life Guard at Seymour Gym at Southern University at the age of 14...Summer of 1987

All I can say is when the honeys came to swim, I was flexing in the lifeguard shirt and the whistle was in full effect!!! :ebrow: :ebrow: :ebrow:

I was 16 working at the YWCA as a assist. counselor. Man I had the 13-15 year old girls. I came up that summer big time

Lets see now, my first job? Well, let me put it this way, I was born and raised on a farm in Alabama. Need I say more?

Jax,

Didn't know you were a lifeguard...you can teach me how to swim. Only if you're veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrry patient, though.

LOL

My first job was at Rice Epicurean Market (Rice Foods) as a cashier. I learned that college was a MUST. There was an older man and two older women who had raised families on those wages. I didn't want it to be me doing the same.

My first job was at this place called FEDCO. I did exit stock which was basically stocking the shelves in the checkout lines. I got paid .10 more for doing that. The crew that I worked with made me realize that I wasn't cut out for that. They were in their 20's and I was 17-18 and didn't want to be in their spot when I got that age.

My first job was in my uncles auto shop. He offered me a job cleaning up at four bits per hour. Being the dumb azz I was at that time I thought he was talking about four dollars. You can bet I know how much four bits is.
