'Your Best Life Now.'

I have heard so many good things about this book, maybe I will check it out. About, 4 of my co-workers told me that the book was awesome. I didn't really give it that much consideration thinking that they were speaking so highly of it because 3 of them are members of Lakewood !!!

Have y'all noticed that the focus is no longer on the church but on Joel? Even the television broadcast.

I was raised near Lakewood, so excuse me if I still have issues with Lakewood.

The 1st book by Lakewood Church Pastor, Joel Osteen, is pretty good. I just started reading it and recommend it to all.

Your Best Life Now is #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List.

Thanks for the information! I really need this one right now! Hopefully, I can pick one up soon! I really appreciate Joel's messages. It seems like he is always talking directly to me and my situation.

I wish him all the best with the book, and I hope some people get blessed by it!

I agree, it's call lifting yourself up - self-pride. "It's all about me"

Who's focus are y'all talking about? Your own? Or are you assuming where other people's focus is?

1) Paul was an awesome leader. He wrote the book of Corinthians. The church at Corinth did not change their focus from God to Paul but they knew that God was working through Paul.

2) Joel is an awesome leader. Lakewood does a lot for God just like many other churches do a lot for God. We haven't switched our focus from God to Joel but we do know that God is working through Joel.

Come and visit; you'll see that we're all about Jesus, period. If you're focused more on Joel yourself than you have the problem, not us.

I was just thinking about that yesterday. I also noticed the same w/T.D. Jakes but, I don't look at it negatively. As pastors of their sermons, I assume they have a vested interest to maximize available opportunities. I was just thinking, what if I wanted to donate to Lakewood or The Potters House because I know the literature I receive, says of www.joelosteen.com? Both men, uplift Jesus.

I saw the book this afternoon at Walmart. If I remember correctly, it only cost about $14 hardcover. I thought seriously about purchasing it then, but put it down only because I am sooooo behind in reading several other books I have purchased. I guess, I can always buy it and have it available. Who knows, I could be inspired to read it next. :) Joel is a very inspiring pastor, and I am happy that more people throughtout the country have had the opportunity to hear his messages. It's hard to be depressed after watching a Lakewood Church service.

I agree. That woman is one of the biggest crooks in the business. Her lavish televised wedding has been in rotation for a while now.

That part right there hit the nail on the head!

I remember when I first started watching, when John Osteen was still alive, everything was, "Lakewood," "At Lakewood, discover the champion in you," "Lakewood - the oasis of love." Bottom line, when I watch the broadcast weekly; I don't hear that anymore. Now, I wonder what I can do about NOT hearing that anymore on THEIR broadcast? Joel's still one of my favorite pastor's & I'll continue to watch. Let me REGRESS for a minute because the key word(for me) was FOCUS & I don't know WHAT their focus is so, I can't say that it's changed. I do know what I used to hear & what I now hear.

I enjoy hearing Joel. He is very inspirational and his gigantic smile is contagious. People say the same things about the focus being on my pastor and not the church. However, like Nevah said, it's all on your focus. I focus on the Word that is given to me from God through my pastor in application to my life.

I do plan to read the book one day.

From what I'm reading, the focus is personal. When I listen to Joel, I hear and inspirational message from God. He has a unique method and people are drawn to the message and not to him. He's lifting God up and that's what men are drawn to.

I know there are false prophets among us, but not all popular successful pastors are out for themselves. Even Billy Graham and Martin Luther King got the spotlight, but if you chose to focus on the man and not the work...that's you.

And for Juanita Bynum...o nevermind...

But remember Fortitude, even though the new 30 second intro is different, the new 30 minute messages never change. If Joel Osteen does not keep God first, then God will deal with Joel Osteen. Same for you and me. ;)

*Lastly, in bible days, the Fact that church folk found a lot of stuff wrong with Jesus Christ when He was walking around on here earth tells me that regardless of how many people someone helps, feeds, clothes, saves, loves and regardless of how sincere you are for God or how much you dedicate your life to the Lord, there will STILL be 100 people (50 saved & 50 unsaved) who will try to pick you apart and challenge your sincerity for the Lord. Like Jadakiss says, WHY?

Also, I like what LMBH said:

that almost sums up the ministry.

Also, Nevah hit the nail on the head. Where is your focus?

I got it that the messages haven't changed. Otherwise, I wouldn't be listening to him weekly nor sending him my money regularly. I am telling you that I don't hear what I used to hear. Frankly, I don't care what they do or why they do it because I agree & believe - God sees all, knows all & repays all. Like you said, if Joel doesn't keep Him first; then He will deal w/him. So, what is your point in addressing this to me(No attitude nor sarcasm - just a question?)

Sorry, I was speaking in general, to everybody. I wasn't trying to point you out; I was just responding to the issue of how the program comes on now. That second paragraph was just general comments, not directed at you. :wavey:
