You Got Folks Making More HBCU Band Highlight Videos Than Football Highlight Videos

You don't shoot football with a cell phone, no matter how good it is. The cheapest professional-level camcorder that shoots in 4K is right now about $1,250. Hell, I got three in my office and they were like $3K each when we bought them. You're not figuring in lavalier mics, wireless mics and other accessories you need out there.

It actually costs a lot more than a couple thousand bucks to produce football content. Think about all of the B-roll they have to shoot before getting it down to a format. Most of your money would be tied up in shooting video and editing/post-production (time to edit/proper software and computer equipment). That's even before it's released. Then you're talking about frequency of dropping new content.

You're right. It doesn't take "big ass TV cameras" to make great videos. However, there are costs involved in having a team to shoot football. I'm not saying it can't be done. It's just a bit more involved than at first glance.

Bruh, you're not disproving my point at all! It's not prohibitively expensive for an HBCU athletic department to make football content. That's my overarching point. So why is it not being done?

Yea, the bands are producing movie type videos now. Maybe that’s what’s next for swac/hbcu sports. We’re seeing some quality play from a couple football teams. So maybe with all the national exposure/attention they’ll start producing better footage while being in the spotlight.

662. I understand your point and it is valid. The Jukes do VERY well with their own channel. However, the other YouTube channels serve as distributors that ultimately assist in providing additional exposure to the Jukes. If it means the VJs get a few $$$$ for highlighting the Jukes, it should be considered a win/win for everyone.

It's similar to athletic conferences like the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, or Pac-12, who all have their own TV networks, but yet still have agreements in place with other networks to help distribute the products of their conference members. The more eyeballs the product gets, the better...especially if there is a demand for the product.

If I'm not mistaken they usually (or used to) get permission via ASCAP or BMI.

I'm here to demean Black people but I know it's mostly Black men who are making these band videos so I'm talking about a potentially money making venture for those same or other Black men to make HBCU football content. SMH. Black folks have allowed liberal Whites to make them believe that other Blacks who give suggestions and solutions are evil and out to hurt them. All the while that White liberal is making money hand over fist off of Black dysfunction and pathology. Stop putting emotion ahead of logic.
 
I watch YouTube a lot and I noticed around Alabama football there's sprouted a cottage industry of YouTube channels that talk about Alabama, SEC and college football overall. And, guess what? These channels aren't even affiliated with the University of Alabama or the SEC. Maybe it will take some people who are passionate about HBCU football to take the opportunity and create the content their damn selves because it seems some people are accepting of HBCU athletic department SIDs being stuck in the past.

I looked for highlights from the Langston v SU game that took place on this past Saturday and it wasn't there. How about that?! Why would I go looking for something much older when the most recent football game highlights aren't on YouTube?

But to touch on the topic, it would be nice to see every swac program have a sports media team as dedicated as the bands (Boom, Jukes, Ocean) media teams. These guys produce some good coverage and have the best quality/angles in the swac. The only other band that produce that level of quality (that I’ve seen) is THE AGGIES from A&T. Their footage is top notch as well. I could be missing a few. Not sure if Bethune has a team for their band. I don’t watch them.

Ive never had a problem with footage/highlights of JSU football & I’ve never complained about the quality but now that I’m thinking about it. Lol the Boom’s footage is higher quality.

I know for a fact that this was presented to GSU. The person who wanted to do it asked for students to be paid as student workers for a year. Ability to give them internship credits. Then the individual and his team would be responsible for filming the band and football games and editing them.

GSU said no.

I didn't look at the local stations because I know the football content that makes it to YouTube is often better and during a weekend that LSU beat Auburn I know what's on the local stations won't be better than what I can typically find on YouTube.

Furthermore, posting what WAFB put online is a worse statement about HBCU football than I ever made. That's an HBCU putting the onus of their media coverage on a White-owned entity. Go ahead and see how that works for you.
