So far so good - what a great winter. Not very cold and little snow. Last winter we had a lot of snow and not that cold.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Snow has been missing in action for much of the U.S. the last couple months. But it's not just snow. It's practically the season that's gone AWOL.

"What winter?" asked Mike Halpert, deputy director of the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center. For the Lower 48, January was the third-least snowy on record, according to the Global Snow Lab at Rutgers University. Records for the amount of ground covered by snow go back to 1967.

Last year, more than half the nation was covered in snow as a Groundhog Day blizzard barreled across the country, killing 36 people and causing $1.8 billion in damage. This year, less than a fifth of the country outside of Alaska has snow on the ground.

Bismarck, N.D., has had one-fifth its normal snow, Boston a third. Buffalo is three feet below normal for snowfall this year. Midland, Texas, has had more snow this season than Minneapolis or Chicago.

We've had a mild winter as well. Yeah...a snow storm a couple of weeks ago, but that's pretty much all. No cold, sub 0 degree weather. Good and Bad.

Good, of course it's nice not being freezing cold.
Bad...b/c allergies are kicking our asses up here b/c it hasnt' been cold enough to kill anything. I've had a sinus cold and allergies since January 1st. Everyone is walking around with the same symptoms...then it takes us forever to realize it's allergies b/c who the fugg has allergies in January?!?1

Man this rain is killing my fishing. I can't get to my good spots because they are flooded out.

We haven't had a lot of snow in the DMV either. It's been pretty mild compared to other years. It has really been that cold.

The critters and insects are going to be out in full force this summer.

You got that right - I think we have only had two days in a row where the high temperature was below freezing - we need a week of deep cold to kill those suckers.

far as I'm concerned, it can stay missing.

I was rolling on the interstate last weekend with the windows down and short sleeves. It's like spring time in Jackson.

The funny thing about this is that, so many meteorologist said that this season was supposed to be one of the worse, with record snow fall and cold temperatures.

They was right.................They were just off by an entire continent.

Southern Russia and Northern Europe is catching hell with temps at -29 below zero with 280 dead and counting. The Jet Strean did a serious dip down from the artic over there.

I'm with you on this one. God knows best....but I'm so glad we haven't had any winter weather. Arkansas is NEVER prepared for ice/sleet/winter weather. The AHTD is right now working on expanding the highways (trying to keep up with Texas) but yet they NEVER have salt/sand trucks out to clear I-30 and/or I-40.

But summer will be a killer....and whoever posted about the critters......some are already out crawling about!
