I know about the Soul Bowl and I know that the name needed to be changed for better marketing purposes. What I want all of you to know that being a part of something for 60-80 years such as the MCC and TDC goes way deeper than something that's been around for 20-30 years. This stuff is born in us in Bama.

The real fact is that the FAMU and Bethune game became larger because of moving to a larger stadium and Bethune's football team playing better over the last couple of years. The Bayou Classic became larger because of Eddie Robinson, GSU winning ways in the past and success coming from SU winning in past years and also playing games in the Superdome. The MCC is natural, historic and has been well attended when ASU and AAMU didn't have to many winning years in the past. The Bayou Classic got a contract with NBC because of one reason-Eddie Robinson breaking records. Both bands didn't have anything to do with it eventhough SU and GSU have good bands.

It is tough to compare, comprehend or understand the BC and the MCC unless you have attended both over a period time. The atmosphere is totally different at both venues.
This best way to describe the atmosphere at the MCC is outhern's homecoming crowd times 100 with tailgating around the baseball field, softball field, around the stadium, and the dome. The best ribs, fried turkey, catfish, bar be que etc. being cooked before your eyes. Fraternities stepping, good looking ladies, smack talking, and also before I forget, a great game. Once the game is over, we go back to the tailgate area and the tailgate parties start over. At the MCC, your ticket/seat number does not matter, because NO ONE sits in their designated seats. This a friendly rivarly therefore, no one cares where you sit. The City of Birmingham tried to control the seating one year and almost had a riot. This might sound unbelieveable, but there are probably 15 - 20 thousand people who go unaccounted for during the game (you know Ray Ray always has the hookup).
The BC is an affair where as the weather conditions are always great, controlled seating, a more relaxed atmosphere, in the middle of the city of New Orleans, the food establishments are great, and Bourbon Street is off the chain. The crowd is great and the game is exciting. After the game the fans leave the dome and go their separate ways (Bourbon Street etc.) to various outings.
Both Classics have their various events leading up to the game. As you can see, both Classics provide an atmosphere that is great for college football. The choice is yours! I have enjoyed both; however, I simply like the MCC better.
Question: Will the fans be able to tailgate around the stadium in Houston? If so, you will get a better understanding of the Magic City Classic.

You do not know the history son. S.U. & GSU bands were world renowned before the label of BC was placed on the series. Grambling Band performed in Super Bowl I and Southern U. in Super Bowl III. These two world class events transpired well before the BC label. The first meeting between GSU and S.U. was in 1936. Hence, the series will be 69 years old after the 2005 meeting. The Bayou Classic television contracts began well before NBC came into the picture, albeit they are the most high profile and lucrative contract. The game became too large for a home and home series thus the genesis for moving it to a neutral site. Southern U. football did not "just" start winning as Ace Mumford produced 30 All Americans, 5 BCFNC & 11 SWAC titles prior to his untimely death in the early 60's. And, of course we know the story of Eddie Robinson and Grambling. In 1974 Grambling clinched a share of the SWAC titles with Alcorn in a victory over S.U. in BC I (one) as. S.U. finished 8-3 and in 2nd place. In 1975 Grambling shared the title in BC II with S.U. as they clinched another share of the title with a victory over S.U. The series has always been popular with S.U. leading the series currently 27-25. Both schools have coaches in the college football hall of fame.
