Why doesn't Pete get offered I-A Job opportunities

Pete certainly knows his X's and O's and is well qualified to handle a D1 job but the last time I saw him he was still A BLACK MAN COACHING AT A BLACK COLLEGE. I wish it could happen for one of our coaches but it's not going to happen anytime soon. There are too many Blacks who are already NFL assistants and D1 assistants to choose from. Our self proclaimed Black leader (Jessie Jackson) raised all kind of hell when Sylvester Croom didn't get the Alabama job so why can't he raise the same hell for Doug, Pete, and LC when they fail to be considered for a D1 opening.

Sometimes I think we get a little too full of ourselves. We dont open our eyes and LOOK at what is happening.

I'll leave it at that...

He's damm sure earned it in that building.....
Pete Richardson's name will never hang in the rafters of the Super Dome no matter hoe many Classics he won. Coach Rob won more than the Classic to earn his banner. No matter how many times SU beats Gram, Grambling will still be Grambling, and athletically SU will never be on that level.

You know, you started out as though you was going to say something with some logic and then you (put it nicely ZN) went crazy... You are full of Longhorn crap if you actually believe GSU has a program that is so great until it is far beyond the accomplishments of any other SWAC football program. We all know Rob is one of the greatest coaches of all time. Rob was Grambling. His longevity and success earned he and GSU a special name in football. But, don't forget that SU has a historic football tradition also. JSU has a historic football tradition also. The SWAC is traditionally a great conference with great teams and great talent.

As for Pete being in the rafters some day, it depends on the reasoning for lifting his name up in the rafters. If it is due to his great success as a football coach in the state of Louisiana, including his dominance in one of the states greatest annual events, sure he will qualify to be up there.

If you have to be legend for the state (Rob being the all-time winningest college coach at the time), then he probably want make it.

It has absolutely nothing to do with GSU being a program far beyond anyone one else... SMH

Peace!!!

SU really doesn't have any "Football Tradition". They've had a few people go to the league, but that's it. Mel Blount and Aeneas Williams are the only household names when you talk about football at SU. Beore '93 SU hadn't won a SWAC title in 30 something odd years. Tradition? Successul stints, some good wins for the program, maybe. And if Billy Cannon and A.W. Mumford's names have yet to hang from the Superdome rafter's what makes you think a Yankee like Pete Richardson will ever?

Remember that Billy Cannon and Ace Mumford never played or coached in the Dome. SU needs representation in the dome just as much as Grambling does...that representation will one day come in the form of Pete Richardson. The only way Richardson would not be selected as SU's "figurehead" would be if his tenure ended in some type of scandal. That's not likely to happen since Pete is truly a professional coach who simply works his azz off and delivers a consistent product.

Pete's early success has allowed him to have more influence than previous coaches in terms of dealing with the political machine that hampered SU athletics in the past. He astutely avoided "butting heads" with Casem and the Administration who at that time were "power" guys. Now that he has an AD (Kerr) an Chancellor (Jackson) who are not "power tripping", he should be able to get his concerns addressed on matters such as scheduling teams more conducive to winning, getting facility upgrades, pay raises for coaches, recruiting budgets, etc.

Just my opinion...

Your post(s) shows your lack of knowledge (ignorance) of S.U. Football/ athletics. There has been only one decade (the 80's) that S.U. has not won at least 1 SWAC title at least since joining. You allege that S.U. has but 2 notable athletes; have you ever heard of Tombstone Jackson, Isiah Robinson, Harold Carmichael to name just a few. Did you know that S.U. has the 3rd most wins of all BCF and is out of 2nd place by a mere single digit? What makes you think that Grambling is the only school that has tradition is unadulterated stupidity. Is 9 BCFNC 4th among all hbcu's not tradition? Is a coach in the college hall of fame not a bench mark for tradition? Does your hate for S.U. make you this narrow minded? Do you think the football tradition of the Bayou Classic is Grambling's alone? And I will not even broaden this discussion to include all of athletics. Everyone knows who has the best athletic program in black college athletics. I sumbit to you that growing up should be your New Years resolution.

Nope, and no one else has heard of these fools either. Before '93 SU hadn't had an outright bSWAC title since '59. The closest they came was with some shares of it in '66 and '75. SU has 11(19 overall) outright SWAC titles while the G-Men have 9(20 overall), AND SU WAS IN THE SWAC 30 SOMETHING ODD YEARS BEFORE GRAM. We have two coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame. I-AA's Eddie Robinson award, Buck Buchannan award, and the Walter Payton award (J-State). None from SU:confused: GRAMBLING is the SCHIT, and recognizing that should be your New Year's resolution.........

Everything I said was true, thats why what you said above is all you could come up with. Aenias Williams, Bobby Phils, Avery Johnson,........................... Mel Blount, and Lou Brock are the only household names SU athletics is known of.......... And, deep down inside you know this:lmao: That's why it cracks me up when you SU people try to talk SU up on a level unknown to them just because of recent success in one game on Turkey Day weekend:confused:

From the comments on this post, it seems like Grambling is a one sport school. I guess if you take away all other sports and academics except football and Grambling would still have the same amount of recognition and awards.

I don't questions there athletic prowess. They have produced in other sports also. It is this stupidity about S.U. not having any tradition that we are addressing. It really shouldn't be dignified, but I guess sometimes you just have to repond. We try to stamp out ignorance when possible.
