Why Does ESPN Do This

TSU v. Alabama State???

No offense but wouldn't it be better for the following:

SU v. JSU
GSU v. JSU

We were talking about this in the Barbershop last night while the game was on....
Would the schools for either of the games you mentioned be willing to play on a Thursday night? Most of our fans save up and travel for weekend games. Most of our constant attended games are not willing to change dates. It may have been a good crowd but I seriously doubt there would've been 25K at the JSU-SU game a few weeks ago if the game were on a Thursday night.

If you go back and look at the games played on Thursday's, most were typically low attended games even if they were played on Saturday. Now, does the schools receive compensation from being on tv? If so, I'm sure the compensation would equal or be greater than had last night's game been on Saturday.

LOL... I don't know why. It is hilarious. I am sure they know what the big games are. They are trying to hinder our exposure. Imagine showing an HBCU game with a packed house with nothing but us negroes. That would be too positive on a number of levels.

So why offers us a contract at all? I don't buy into that conspiracy we have all seen games on Thursday night between fbs school that have poor attendance.

Hell we've seen them with poor attendance on Saturdays for that matter.

Why and how would the know which games are the big ones unless or AD's and SID's tell them? We're not the only show in town.

Might as well post it here as well as on Facebook.

SU vs. JSU for example are not going to move their game to a Thursday and miss out on people who have to work the next day or compete with Scandal, the NFL and the college game on ESPN. Most people make plans to attend these big games on a weekend not a Thursday

You can luck up and get a good Alabama State/Alcorn game last year on Thursday but generally you will get the games like the next one which is ASU at UAPB on the 15th. It's up on the schools to promote the games and get the people into the stadium (I like the $5 ticket idea or free tickets to high school students, nurses, teachers, military, etc.)

So...you support hbcus as long as they aren't Bama state or txsu. I mean...so they had poor attendance but they should also be penalized by not having any exposure too, right? Folks kill me with that bs.

No i do support bama state and txsu. Ive been supporting bama state since the 80s. It is what it is Alabama st and Txsu game doesnt draw a crowd never has and never will.

Sorry, this is Not on ESPN. This is on the schools. You have to be creative for these Thursday games. I see that sTu tried it with Free tickets, but maybe it should have been promoted a little better. But then again.. this is sTu we are talking here.... smh.

You support TxSU? When and how? Do tell. All I see is people crying that their school wasn't playing...so that Bama state and TxSU WON'T be on espn. And then another "it's whitey" conspiracy problem.

I watched the game last night plus some if my old high school coaches coached for txsu last year, ive watched all txsu games on youtube last year. I dont dislike txsu for what? I just saying txsu brand isnt popular to watch on saturdays so you damn sure not gone watch them on thursday with the ravens vs steelers game on plus miami vs cincy. Even txsu fans dont watch yall games. Smh

My thing with this whole "promote it better" thing.....A simple Google search can tell you who's playing, when they play, where they play, what time it starts, and how much it costs. If you are so hell bent on saying "I woulda been there if I had known", then the information is there for you. In my mind, "marketing the game better" is a cop out for "I wasn't gonna go anyway".

TSU fans don't come out for football. This isn't new. Now...you added "even" as if other hbcu fans support TSU. When in reality...many of them don't either. I don't lose sleep over it but when those other hbcu fans try to make it seem like they have a vested interest (they dont) or that they actually support or have love for TSU (they dont) I just have to inquire how and when did they show it. Because well...they dont. "Even ya'll fans don't support yall". I was there at the game supporting. I'm a fan and an alum. "TxSU brand ain't good". Ok. "I support TxSU". Lie. Lol don't straddle the fence as if the conversation here on this board has Texas Southern University's best interest at heart by people who are NON FANS of Texas Southern University anyway. Other than being cool with talking noise about it...what do you care?

Your time? On youtube? Interesting. We have a mentor program for band students of which I'm a part of. Haven't seen you there giving time. Been on campus and even worked there and helped students get in school, helped students find their way through understanding loans etc...just on my feet like countless other TSU alum. Didn't see any blue and gold there. Didn't expect it either...because it doesn't exist. Don't get me wrong...this isn't against YOUR school but I just don't see how suggesting other schools shouldn't get any shine of their own makes a good foundation for all this altruistic thinking round these parts...

C'mon now nobody said that, He said espn was doing it which is a big difference. Although that doesn't make any sense to me because they simply could not have contacted us.

Agreed.

But the whole thread's premise is LITERALLY based on two other schools should get shine over the ones that did. So which is it? Hbcus get shine period...or only certain hbcus get shine? If that's the case...form another conference between those two schools so they can play each other in football only...every week. A match made in heaven.
