Why does mainstream America continue to perpetrate the lie that we don't care about crime in the hood? This has to be one of the biggest lies ever. Folks take the few clowns who wear I don't snitch shirts or who commit crimes and say it is the whole neighborhood. If folks be truthful only a small percentage of folks love the ignorant things that take place in the bad areas. The community outreach groups, church's and many other individuals beat the streets day in and day out helping folks. Just like in the so called upscale places everyone just will not and can not be helped.

To deny any responsibility in creating the problem which they now lament. Also, to continue the narrative that black people are irresponsible savages.

The media does this make it look like we don't care. They rarely show the good things going on in our communities. They portray the negative images around the world. Have you noticed how when Africans come here they feel like blacks in America are lazy, ignorant? I have a few friends from Africa that I went to Grambling with and friends I've met in the workforce. They all have mentioned how growing up in Africa and when they watched t.v. they saw nothing but negative images of black people in the U.S. If you keep showing images of the negative that's what people will start to believe. We need our own news stations to show more positive images of our communities.

Last time I was in the hood someone was playing music from their house so loud you could hear it for blocks.
Most of the people just smiled, some even bobbed their heads.
Other places I've been if you did that, the cops would be called in seconds.

So you tell me?

Simple.
It is the same reason mainstream America, the media, show black neighborhoods when they talking about welfare fraud and shootings and then show whites when they want people to feel sorry for "people that are down on their luck and HAD to accept welfare". Don't even talk about crime. You would think the only crime that happens in white American neighborhoods are white collar and a few cases of shoplifting.

Last time I was in the hood cars were stopped in the middle of the street, blocking traffic, and the people were having long conversations with
others who were walking who had stopped and leaned into the windows.

Other places if that happened the cops would be called in seconds.

I see that in the suburbs everyday. I have yet to see a cop called.

It won't happen fast but do that or have a overflowing house party in Jackson. I gurantee you before long, somebody will be telling you "the cops are out here."

A couple of Homecomming parties got out of hand at my house a few years back. Funny part is, more than a few brothers that were present at the party were JPD and HCS. :lol:

There are people in the hood that care, but so many in the hood tend to turn a blind eye to things taking place right infront of their door.

One reason why I stopped watching the news. The media here shows the same images of Africa. All we see is jungles and people running around like wild men with paintings and piercings on their faces. Totally opposite of what Africa is :(

the hood is not only an inner city location.
The hood can be in the suburbs or even the country.

If you don't know it by now what makes the hood the hood is the people, what the people will and won't accept
what the people expect and tolerate
That's why alot of non-hood places have covenants to prevent barbequeing in the front yard, parking on the front lawn
and all the other hood habits that lower property value, and make it a undesirable place to live.

Some will forever beat up the low income minority community. Hell look at the City of Ruston. Ruston is building more and more things north of the railroad tracks and minorities, mainly African Americans are angered at the city. Yet, the people living south or railroad tracks fail to keep their yards clean, get mad when you ask them to git rid of old cars on the street and in the yard. Curse at you when you ask them to mow their lawns. And lord knows if you ask them to come out for a community event to discuss making change.

As one of the people who work in this type of community doing HIV outreach as well as community development it angers me. Yet, if we stop then there will be no change. What truly bothers me is that Ruston Chamber of Commerce does not give a shit about these neighborhoods because the businesses there have the same problem, half cleaned, trash in the parking lot, and piss poor service.

Now there are people who want better, keep their yards up, etc... Yet, they are out numbered.....

And it's not just us doing those things. Red necks are worse than hood nuccas.....Covenants are a pain but a necessity(sp) in some cases..

Maybe because most of the folks in the hood turn their head as if they don't see it themselves? And you're fooling yourself if you think otherwise. There's only one demographic in this country that actually took on "stop snitching" as some sort of badge.

Everytime I hear one of those dumb azzes say that, I want to drive steel toe boots directly up their azz. Grown people saying it make me want to go postal on their head with a baseball bat. :smh:

The whole "stop snitchin'' thing can be perceived by some as being embraced by a group of people who value their street reputation over civic duty.

But, this idea is also borne out of a mistrust of the police and fear of retaliation by certain individuals or factions if the tipster's identity is somehow revealed.

That's why there has been a big push by local law enforcement entities to educate the public on reporting crimes anonymously.

I recently wrote a story about how the Crime Stoppers organization in Tulsa is diligently attempting to combat the misnomer that residents are contacting the police directly instead of a normal call taker. Their research has shown that folks don't use the system as a result of such thinking. For some reason, residents aren't confident that police will conceal their identity.

I think we also have to factor in that many of these people feel alienated, harassed or unfairly targeted by cops. Stop-and-Frisk is an example of that. Being stopped by the cops because you're black or look suspicious is another example. When you hear Mayor Bloomberg in NYC say his officers don't stop minorities enough, how should people receive that? Not saying this is mentality is right, but why would a group of people who are under that impression, trust the police?

We have to be honest about this no snitching stuff folks!!! The police is not their to protect you at all times. Truth is even if you don't like what gangs are doing, they will kill you or your kids if they find out you call the police. Now the fools who agree with the gangs are the dummies, but what is a single mother who doesn't own a gun or if she has one gonna do with a crew of 20 dudes who will kill you?

Blacks not carrying about crime in our neighborhood is a republican talking point and diversion so you will not recognize their repugnant agenda. These same people that talk about crime in the hood are complicit. These are the same people that will not pass a jobs bill, do not want poor people to have affordable health care, wont increase the minimum wage, allowed the sequester to go through to reduce extended benefits for the unemployed, and a host of other endeavors that are just too disgusting to go into. These people have replaced white robes with pin strip suits and prey on weak minds and mentally whip folks as opposed to tying folks to trees and using a bull whip to garner control.

BTW, in my all black neighborhood we walk the walk. We have block captains, paid security during the day when folks are at work and regular meetings to exchange information. If we didn't care, none of this would be going on......

Cee Dog a number of people (blacks included) are disconnected from the REAL society. Having been an "involuntary resident" I have seen a number of young guys come to prison because they felt to "keep it real" with the people in their community.

Honestly, if a drug dealer gives a woman on welfare $1000 a month to hide dope in her Section 8 Housing they are going to do it.

Poor people will do what it takes to make ends meet.

The question you should be asking is how many of those people OWN those homes where the property owner is required to maintain the home and property but refuse to....

My point is poor people don't care. They are barely surviving themselves. If it came to $50 lawn or $50 worth of groceries which would you choose if you and your family was hungry.
