Why Do Black That Attend Pwc's

posted by Unknown1

Most of you are posting ignorant in the fact that you still dont comprehend that it isnt a black/white thing for me. When I look at where i'm going to attend school, I look at the statistics on paper, not an opinion someone gives. GT puts up the numbers, and thats about as simple as it is. And GT has the money because their Alums give large sums of money back to the school once they have gotten where they need to be. That is why they have sufficient funds. As i've said most folks are speaking from speculation. When did I ever say there are no grads from HBCU's atop major corporations? If you would read, I said i'm sure that there are. I also said that on the vast majority of the job interviews and co-ops that i've been on here in the ATL area, the presidents or people who would hire me were UGA or GT alums. Now is that a false statement? I said it once and i'll say it again, it aint about what "color" the school is, it's about what the program has to offer. Now, when or any other school, whether it be PWC or HBCU can show me the same results that i've seen from GT, then that's when i'll consider going there.

Good luck my brother.

I feel where you're coming from, man.....

However,

The prestige and/or financial backing of an institution is only a small piece of the picture when it comes to the reality of really making it in the workplace....

The Bottom line is that we as Afro-Americans have to be sharper than everybody else out there in terms of going after these jobs because that's how employment in this country is still set up...

I don't care whether you attend PV or Princeton, if you don't know your isht when presented with a real world problem as a black applicant, you ain't gettin the gig....period.

That being said, I get a chance to see that process on a daily basis in the IT community here in the DC area. Being black and having a degree from a PWC don't mean a dayumn thing unless you've got the real-world savy to go with it....

I'm currently doing more degree work at George Mason out of convenience (I'm an official Virginia resident), but I got the real-world experience I needed to get here from going to school at the Univ. of DC and Alabama State. They might not have had the financial might that some of the institutions mentioned have, but I got something even more valuable from the professors there:

The benefit of their experiences in the PWC atmosphere and the real-world job market...That type of exposure is what really gives you the edge in what gig you get and what you don't get...You have to have that mentality of being the best, especially if you're black....It won't matter whether you got your degree from a SWAC school or a School in the ACC...When it comes right down to it, it's you and that other applicant and how much you want the gig...

LOL.......So you think GT isn't preparing me for the job field? Please....ignorance at best. Besides, i'm on scholarship so the "pumping the white mans pockets" crap is another stupid point by you. I mean you can't even conjugate a simple sentence, and you're sitting here trying to criticize me for where I go to school? Please, I don't even think I need to respond to this thread anymore.

I'm not sayin that at all, bruh....

LOL.......So you think GT isn't preparing me for the job field? Please....ignorance at best.

Not at all, man....the only thing I'm saying is that you've got to tap other resources to augment that degree you get in order to be as successful in the job market when you get there, no matter where you get you're degree from...

I know my avenue for obtaining that extra foot up was via the military (Information Systems Specialist for 4 years in the Navy)...

I value my time at an HBCU because it prepared me socially for what I may encounter in the job market as a black applicant...

I'm glad you're doing your thing at GT, or any university for that matter because there aren't too many black males with degrees these days...Just remember that what you encounter job-wise in the Atlanta area may not be representative of other regions of the country, as well as different fields of employment...

I wasnt referring to you crazylegs, but believe I will be prepared when the time comes for me to get a job. As a matter of fact, I am interning at the Ford Motor Company.......

that's good to hear....

Cool Beans....

just make sure you network your arse off while that internship is going on...

On another note, I've never seen a higher concentration of HBCU talent than I have here in the DC area....:eek2: :eek2:

Dayumn, everywhere I turn there's an NC A&T, FAMU, HU, or J-State Grad...

Even seen a number of Bama State alums in this area, too...
